So I get home this evening to find the new Robinsons catalogue waiting for me, all pretty and shiny and begging me to spend my money...

...every single rug in the new collections is black or red! I am fuming, as Beastiepony has all of her rugs in black or red and when I bought her four years ago I really struggled to find them in these colours (and often paid over the odds just to get them...

Now that I have a full wardrobe of them and don't need any more, they're everywhere.

Back then I remember purple and blue were really big, followed by, I think, checkered rugs. What other rug fashions do you remember, and is anyone else as anal as me about rug colours?

I buy whatever's cheapest although if all things are equal I get navy blue. I'm not a big rug shopper though, D only has 5 rugs in total.

it may sound sad but most of my rugs for my boy have pink/magneta on them lol especially my weatherbeeta rugs i think one of the main rug fashions at my yard is the newmarket fleeces and the red amigo rugs every horse seems to have them not to sure about years ago though but when i was wee i had the rhino rugs for my ponies

I mostly buy Horseware so don't get a lot of choice with that, although it does mean I have a chav-pony in her checked Rhino:

I got my robinsons book today too have you seen the star rug at the back with the matching dog coat that lights in the dark..!! omg how cute is it..!!! xxx

Can you get a rug in fluorescent colours? I was looking for one as a friend of mine's horse was killed in the dark when someone let him out of his field at night (the driver was killed too) is it a good idea to have a bright rug?

I was looking in the new Robinson's catalogue at the rugs - I loved the black one's but because of the above I want a really bright one now!!

D'ya know, I've never seen one. Most modern rugs have reflective bits on them in some form, as piping or in the logo, but only really tiny bits in proportion to the whole rug.

My Premier Equine rugs (black!) have strips of retro-reflective tape on the front and rear quarters which is very handy for finding horses in the dark by torchlight!

if you look at the old robinsons catalogue the one before this one on the back cover there is a bright rug my wee sister has that for her 11hh pony im sure there would be a company that would do one for horses

Im evil and buy whats cheapest in the make i prefer (i dont like alot of the cheaper makes). Hence my 17hand DWB gelding and 15.1 chestnut welsh D both sporting lilac medium weights earlier in the year lol

I'm hoping they bring something similar out this winter as Navy will never look the same

I'm afraid I'm tight and only replace my rugs when they are no longer serviceable. All my stable rugs are ancient, I have a proper Newmarket stripe woollen day rug with leather breast strap and brass buckle for best, which is very old but still looks smart, my jersey cooler is black bound in white and I've had it for 10 years. The only rugs I replace regularly are turn outs and I try to buy the best I can afford (currently have a Premier Equine Winterbuster, and yes it has got reflective strips front, side & rear).
Even if I wanted to follow fashion, I could not afford to!

The company I work for used to make rugs, although don't any more. We do still have all the patterns though so if I am short of s rug I get one made up out of whatever fabric is hanging around and is roughly suitable . As a result my horses have a right old miss mash of odd rugs bless them!

Holding my hands up here. I'm a rug addict.

I have all different colours, makes. I buy what I like and yes I do care about colours.

It did scare me recently when I parted company with my 17hh and had a clear out. Boy was he well dressed. Shame they don't fit my 15.2hh. Because I have so many and he didn't like mud they are virtually new. Tack sale this weekend though
