I'm just being nosey, but I was wondering what your preference was over tack colour. I absolutely love brown tack but sadly the only saddles that fitted my horses were black (I personally detest black tack) so unfortunately I have to have a black saddle but bridles, girths, boots and breastplates are all brown.

So what colour tack do you like?

I like brown too! Same as you though, black saddle so had to go with black. Also brown tack tends to come in different shades so it's hard to mix and match.

It depends on the colour of the horse and the discipline I'd be using the tack for. I hate tack that doesn't match but don't mind what colour it is (as long as it matches).

My bay horse has brown tack, if I were to buy him a dressage saddle it would be black.

My coloured has black tack for everything.

Brown, all the way brown. Luckily all Al's saddles come mostly in brown it seems, although if her dream saddle came up in her budget as black I don't think she'd think about refusing!

My bay mare has black tack. I got her saddle with her, so I bought her a black bridle.

My old loan had black tack (grey), he had previously competed bd.

Personally usually prefer black tack on bays, but don't really like black tack on chestnuts.

It's down to personal preference though, colour of horse, and what your planning on doing with them.

The only tack that I really dislike is the non traditional coloured tack, i.e bright pink/ blue etc. I know some love it, but it's just not for me.

I love really rich dark brown. But then I'm not a fan of black for anything-I have the bare minimum of black clothes for formal purposes and that's it. I do think the shade of brown has to be thought about a bit for bays/chestnuts though as too similar can look at bit clashy.

Prefer brown, it's more traditional, but have had black in the past when it came with the horse and have a black dressage saddle 'cause that was the one that fitted (and have to say it is a fab saddle). Unfortunately I no longer have a black bridle to go with it as I lent it to someone and they lost it somehow >:-/ Agree that black looks awful on chestnuts and would like to add palaminos to the list of colours not suited to black tack :)

Started with black because we were nowhere near tack shops etc for matching bridles to saddles. Second saddle is brown and it's brown all the way for me now.

Black tack, on my bay horse :) I might consider brown if my horse was a different colour (although ideally, I'd like to have even more colour choices - I love the coloured endurance tack! ). "Because it's traditional" isn't the sort of reason I give for much of anything in my life ;)

brown for me as I think it looks more natural and also seems to mature better, older black saddles that I've had tend to end up going grey / greenish on the seat whereas a well worn brown saddle just goes a lighter shade and still looks smart :)

Depends on the colour of horse but my favourite is a deep brown colour - looks gorgeous on my mare and think it suits most colours. I do prefer black on a bay horse but on the whole go for dark brown - but whatever colour it is, it must match!

I decided to buy brown for my mare and it looks great on her
i do prefer brown to black.
my gelding is a piebald and i think hes better in black so that's what i bought :)

once you try black you never go back?

im a black girl, always have been always will be! but that is only because I hate brown, would never own brown shoes or anything!! though I do have a "brown" horse and "brown" hair and my pony is white with "brown" patches haha!! otherwise I hate brown haha

once you try black you never go back?

Definitely not true! lol

All the black I've got from the midst of time or that came with a horse is stuck at the back of a cupboard never to be seen again. I hate black tack, it looks too harsh on most colours for my liking. Especially greys.

Unless you are showing, it really comes down to personal taste. I like the contrast of black on greys. That doesn't make Capriole or myself wrong, we are just pleased by different things aesthetically.

I'm sure that most people on here would hold the fit of the tack as more important than the colour or matchyness anyway.
