Feeling guilty, clipped horse living out

Oh god what have I done??? First winter with new horse! It's been soooo mild for weeks where I am (very bottom of cornwall) and poor horse was sweating with 0fill rug as he has a lovely winter coat. So riding was so uncomfortable for him. My friend kept telling me he needed a bit of a clip. So we did a irish clip on sat and since then temps have dropped and it's so wet :-( he lives out 24/7 in a lovely sheltered field with lots if haylage at night. He's currently wearing a 250fill with neck (amigo bravo plus) the neck is sooo short! So going to invest in a PE rug! Are they the best for long necks? Now......why am I up in the middle of the night worring about him out now I've clipped him. I check him twice a day and so far he's toasty. What does every one else do with there clipped horses? Any others out 24/7? Any advice? My husband and dad hopefully are going to put a lean-to shelter up for him soon. But they are just so busy! :-( don't want to be a bad mummy
 
Not quite sure what you mean by an Irish clip? But I'm sure he is fine. The weather is so mild. If his neck is cold due to the rug's neck being too short you will find he grows his coat back really quickly. A decade or so ago we didn't even have necks on rugs, and all horses did fine! Don't worry.
 
Don't panic! My wimp of a warmblood is fully clipped bar legs and he's out for 12 hours a day, rain or shine. At the moment he has 1 HW and 1 MW PE rugs on and he's nice and toasty.

As long as your horse is warm, and maintaining weight, I wouldn't worry!
 
Don't worry, before I kept my horses in they lived out fully clipped (but with legs left on) and were fine. If you provide plenty of forage and adequate rugging they will be fine.
 
I've had a fully clipped WB (left the legs on) living out and she was much happier than when she was stabled. As NellRosk says, plenty of forage, adequate rugging and shelter from hedges and trees or a manmade shelter, will be fine.
 
I had to turn out a 12 year old fully clipped TB mare in December/ January on vet advise

she managed very well lots of good rugs plenty of hay and good feed
 
One of my Arabs geldings is Hunter clipped and at the moment is wearing a MW with a neck and he lives out 24/7. He is very happy and more healthier.

I always leave the legs and the front of his face, clipping up to the bridle line.

He will be back in work as from Christmas Day . A tradition I have had for many years. A nice early morning ride on Christmas Day and then plenty of hay in the field and they are all fine.
 
I'm a big fan of the Irish clip, and it suits horses surprisingly well aesthetically too! I take off half the jaw too as so the the throat area doesn't sweat up. I prefer horses that live out to have their backsides and front half of head left on, even if they have shelter, and the Irish clip is perfect in my book.
 
My connie x is out 24/7 with a chaser clip (first winter out with me) and has never been happier! Currently in a MW rug. Yours will be absolutely fine, hardly any fluff taken off.
 
My conny is out 24/7 in a 100g with an Irish clip. Other 2 have a trace clip & 250 g rugs. None own a neck cover & they all cope fine on the side of a Dartmoor hill. Only shelter is a hedge, but plenty of hay.
 
Really wouldn't panic! My TB lived out the last two winters with a full clip - everything off bar bottom of the legs. He was well rugged and fed throughout and came out of winter looking round and happy.
 
Apart from a couple of nights my clipped pony has been largely out for a good few weeks now in just a 100g or at most 180g rug. Its been so mild I thought I would let him stay out for as long as he is happy to

We left his face hair on but shaved under his chin as that gets really sweaty
 
Horses are not actually meant to be 'toasty', they are happier and healthier if kept slightly on the cool side. I am going to have to give my mare a similar clip if the temps don't drop here soon, as she is far too hot at night inside. Our land is too wet for her to live out 24/7 but she will be going out with no rug during the day.

OP, your horse will be absolutely fine.
 
My old cob is out fully clipped. Living out suits him better, easier to manage COPD. He still does quite a lot of work and was still sweaty in a lesson I did the other day. So really pleased if clipped him. He was so uncomfortable before.
 
Stop panicking, he could probably survive quite happily out without a rug at all!

My ISH is hunter clipped and the TB is blanket clipped and they are both out 24/7, they haven't wasted away yet!
 
Mine is full clipped and lives out - he's well rugged, but no neck cover. First clip has pretty much grown out on his neck, but I will be re-doing him after Christmas. He's as happy as larry, and hasnt felt cold even in the most torrential downpours
