Feeling hot hot hot

On the way to the air conned office. It absolutely boiling hot already. I hardly slept at all last night it was 23C in my bedroom. I have a very powerful fan and that does help so got that out of storage at 2.30am.

Poor horses. They don't have much shade in their field there is a large hedge at the back but no big trees to stand under. It going to be 28C and my first really hot spell with Bert so will have to see how he manages. He is still in his flexible filly muzzle due to the grass and has his fly hat on. I did consider taking his muzzle off for a few days but he is not as slim as I would like him, his saddle was widdened again a couple of weeks ago and he could do with some weight loss. Wooden stables which are quite hot too.

I loathe the heat anything above 20C is too hot for me.

He has the farrier tomorrow poor farriers not great for them to work in this weather.

I’m in a right grump about the heat! Hopefully it will cool down again by the weekend. Just too hot for anything and after the drowning we had there is hardly any grass in our fields. In fairness that’s mainly because they are over grazed but still makes me grumpy . Meant to be cooler with some rain next week so that should give the grass a little boost and dry up the dust for a few days! Horses - who’d have ‘em?

I'm determined not to complain about the heat as it's been so long coming. I was concerned yesterday as mine seemed to spend all day out in the sun, but it's not as if they don't have choices.

Fantastic for hay making! Weve got half being made at the moment, and the rest next week to be mown.
Me and my partner were saying that after the bad winter, we would have the other extreme in the summer. We could do with a drop of rain for the grass seeds we've just sown and to freshen the grazing up - feels mad saying that after the constant wet we had back then!.
The youngsters come in a few hours during the day, they are keen for a bite to eat and away from the flies.The TB is in a fly rug and the other three just masks.
Thankfully the sheep are all sheared!.
It's supposed to be cooler and breezy end of the week, but no sign of rain yet.

Im have the exact same debate! Pink nosed horse. already peeling burnt but shes sweating under her full face mask and worried it will rub.. Im bringing her in to cream up and give her a rest from wearing one but it must be miserable for the poor thing

I plaster cream on but it seems to vanish in no time at all. He has to wear a muzzle too just to make it worse

Its a losing battle, were not riding as having a bit in would be so sore with lips like that. PLus suncream = toxic murder cream to them so its a battle to put on even more so now sore

I'm due to run this evening, but I think I'm going to abandon that idea in favour of bathing the cob, so I can clip him. It was already too hot to ride (for me - he seems to do well in hot weather!) at 8am this morning.

Although I'm a typical Brit who thinks summer should stop at 22 degrees.

My 3 will all disappear into their shelter for most of the day. Baby cob was ridden at 7:30 for half an hour much to his horror.

My gelding's field dips down quite steeply and borders a small wood which provides beautiful cool shade on days like this - it was one of the reasons I picked that field for him. Does he ever stand in it when its hot? No.

Can't win! We've had the wettest weather for over a year!
It's too cold = everyone complains
Too wet = everyone complains
Too windy = everyone complains
Too hot/sun finally comes out = everyone complains

I for one, if it stays nice, will be taking the LONG overdue opportunity to enjoy the sun, sunbathe, have a barbecue/picnic/eat outdoors, hopefully get some hay made, go camping, enjoy some sunsets, maybe swim in the sea. The horses will survive (they've fly rugs and masks on and they don't come and stand in the shade anyway) and quite frankly my mental health needs a bit of sun. I have been so sick of the crap wet weather we've had. I have summer clothes that didn't even make it out of the wardrobe last year as it was so rubbish!!

I ride in a bp and cancelled riding today, due to my tiredness after a holiday rather than the heat. OH was very cross with me, but there is little shade where I hack and the mare suffers in the heat and naps. I was told long ago that she naps and I mustnt let her, lest she do it with less competent riders. But my view is that she only naps when she is really hot and uncomfortable and I try to design her shadier rides.

I want it to stay reasonably dry until after the barley straw is baled next door. I watched the lovely golden crop turn dark, then black and ruined last year and it has cost me a fortune to buy in feeding straw for the donkeys.

Ah bless him. Mine not that bad, he has been in previous years but is now accepting the fact he needs to be creamed and lets me do it without too much of a battle. He does hate it though.
Have you tried warming it in your hands first? I know it’s not cold cold in this weather but mine still reacts to it straight out of the pot worse than if I warm it slightly in my hands first.

It doesn't really get above 30 in the mountains where mine is, but they come in during day with a big industrial fan hung in the corner of the stable (closed motor, otherwise fire risk). The fan keeps the flies off them and keeps them cool- they love it!

I'm gonna enjoy the weather after the crap wet winter we have had I like the heat but I tend to ride early as I like to get it done and have the day to myself.

I'm getting my pool out in the garden tomorrow so when I get hot I just sit in that.

I'm enjoying the weather - hay is getting made and we had so little sunshine last year that I'm enjoying it while we have it. TB doesn't struggle in the heat as much as others so we're still riding as normal and as he events he needs to cope with all weathers. Hoping we might get a bit of rain to keep the ground good thursday/ friday.

A comfortable 15°C when I set off for work at around 06h45; 27°C by 10h00 and around 30°C now.

Forecast for overnight to tomorrow is temperature dropping to a glacial 19°C at 06h00 then climbing to 30°C in the afternoon, again.

Hideously hot here, for me. Rodriguez Catto has been lying on deck under the iron aft rope container, sunning his tummy and fixing the mallards with an evil stare. The mallards are ignoring him and I'm supervising him from my perch in the wheelhouse.
Off to see Old Horse later. He's having the farrier for a trim. Being an Arabian, he should be reasonably good with heat, but his age (30 on July 3rd) may be against him. YO will have done the right thing, possibly moving him to one of the fields with shade via hedges, or bringing him in early having turned out at silly o'clock this morning.

I don't do heat, heat intolerance is part of acondition I have. We saw the long range forecast for July and spent premium bond winnings on two serious air conditioners. The OH put a big hole in the walls in two rooms so they are permanently set up instead of dangling hoses out of windows. We chilled the bedroom last night before we went up to bed and it was fabulous. I expect to be cooling the lounge tonight.
