As soon as I saw the photo of no2 I recognised him as one Mitty Hardy is selling (all her photos are over the yellow and blue jump with barrels and that lovely background!) You won't go far wrong with Mitty, she's very honest, well respected and gets a lot of very nice horses to sell as a result. She wouldn't be a million miles away from you either. She sold Charlie for me and really worked with me to find him the right home.

Follow her on Facebook, she usually puts them on there before paying to advertise on Horsequest. She's got a few that look lovely at the moment. The only word of warning I'd give is that she's a lovely rider and moulds her apprentices in the same way so they can make any horse look amazing!
Have heard the same, a friend used her for sales livery. Have also heard her 'type' are the ones harder to sell...not sure if that's true or not though, just local word of mouth!

@AShetlandBitMeOnce No...i'm reducing horses, it used to be rather a lot that found themselves as field ornaments so reducing that number. (down to 16!) i am being realistic, as most are over 20 years, and i'm getting older and more sensible, there will be no expensive vet investigations- and only 3 donkeys and a mule vacancy (at the moment but watch this space!)

@piebaldproblems No luck in finding the brecon mules so hopefully gone to good homes.

Yes I don't think the photo of her on the yard does her justice though, she looks a bit roach backed and lacking muscle over her hamstrings. The photo of the rider her on her looks 100% times better, she does look a nice sort.

I agree B. Her back half has a very odd shape there, and in the photo of the whole of her, if she stands camped under behind like that routinely, (and her musculature suggests she might), then she wouldn't be a horse I would buy. She looks a very different horse when placed in balance by a rider.

We had a nightmare trying to find a weight carrier for RDA, with a limited budget. Prices were ridiculous for unsound horses and time-wasting sellers abounded. We did buy one eventually with the right temperament, who passed the vetting but he isn't really the height we wanted, so we have had to shuffle riders round and we still have a vacancy for a 15.2hh weightcarrier. I am keeping an eye on prices with my fingers crossed.
My friend works at a trekking centre that's been having dreadful problems finding novice-safe weight carriers. They've recently bought two big mares but had to compromise. One was proving too much as someone's first horse. She will take the mick out of beginners but is foot perfect after a few seconds once she realises you know what you're doing, so they've shuffled everyone round & the new one is leading rides. They've also bought a very steady 6 yo that's only been driven & are going to back her themselves.

@Birker2020 I think prices are still high if you need something that's perfect right now to take out & compete and a fashionable colour/breed but if you're prepared to compromise on fashions and add skill & patience to the mix things seem to have improved.

My sister is looking for a horse for her daughter but has a limited budget. She's finding it difficult to find something suitable. I did too last year and I had more money to play with. I gave up in the end as I couldn't stretch the budget enough. Prices do seem to still be in 5 figures for something half decent.

Still too many people looking for a 'bargain' but sadly the world is dividing into those who can afford to keep one and those who can't or want to try on a very limited budget. I have still one for sale and am now screening everyone as so many time wasters / unrealistic people. Many have a field and so think they'll buy a horse as in theory have more time now they can work from home. So little experience, even less knowledge or access to someone to help, and we'll just leave it in the field don't want to stable as too much work mucking out! - so what about poo picking? I'm sure there will be some bargain buys come November/December but they may also need a bit of TLC.

Well I’m actively looking and whilst the prices are still strong it’s not as bad as it was recently and a fair few are not shifting that quickly and coming down in price.

That doesn’t mean it easy to find something!

I’m not sure that’s 100% true. She is the sort of rider who would get the best out of most horses and I’m sure a lot of people send horses to sales livery partly because they don’t want to ride them any more to keep them fit for and during viewings (I didn’t but that was mostly my issue not Charlie’s).

Having said that, she normally has them a few weeks before selling them and the work she puts into them definitely improves them for the long term, it’s not just about selling.

I’ve also known people send very saleable horses to her, they just don’t have the time or don’t want to deal with buyers.

Please don't send me suggestions though.....not just yet. I really am not looking at the moment, I need to save up some more money for a contingency fund and with going on holiday there is not much point.

Just studying the market.

Thanks for your replies.

So you don’t want to see the nice chestnut Adam Ferris has in then? 😁
