No we dont all hunt, although if my horse wouldnt turn himself inside out i probably would try it. I dont knock anything til Ive tried it

Besides there is far more cruelty going on behind closed doors in this country than ever happened on the hunting field.

eg live exports, using animals for testing cosmetics and producing them for their fur and nothing else

I totally agree. i am currently at uni studying animal welfare and have learnt alot about each topic u have raised.
even though that is all worng that still dosent make hunting right
if your horse was sane enough to go on a hunt, would you not prefer drag hunting.

I think that u have a death wish!

But anyhoos, i think there are nicer ways to die, than be ripped to pieces. Would rather be shot personally!! x

I was very anti as a youngster and recently went on hound exercise with the farmers bloodhounds (who have always been drag hunting, not live quarry) and I have to say the hounds, sound of horn etc etc made that hairs on the back of my neck prickle in a funny kind of primitive way. It was really peculiar the way it stirred up these feelings and i came home saying I now understood why people get thoroughly addicted to hunting and adrenaline.

I think it is the thrill not the kill for most people

I did not think hunts killed anymore foxes then the car? I am on the fence over this, I have seen what a fox can do when it gets in a frenzy. Ok I appreciate that given time they would go back for their kill & bury it for leaner times, but that is no consolation for the person who has lost their birds. I think for the amount the hunt ever took, it was hardly worth the tax payers money to ban it. Years ago it was a good training ground for some eventers.

Working on a game farm some years back I saw what damage the fox does. Will go into a pen and kill the lot (pheasants) Fox are vermin and need to be controlled. If killed in a humane way then I do not see a problem.
I accationally go hunting to take the youngsters out for fun. I enjoy the hunt, the kill I have no interest in but I know this needs to be done.

At min, starting with clays then once I've capable, I'm going to be going out with my uncle..so duck, pheasant, pigeon..you name it, we'll prob shoot it! ;) And why..becuase what would you rather? Eat a chicken that's been cooped up in a horrid shed, hardly any light space etc killed in horrible manner or something that has been well brought up (we do conservation too you know) and is dead before it hits the ground?

hey louise,
i dont have a death wish i am just sticking up for wats right. how would these people feel if it was them or their dog or sumone else they loved was getting chased for miles on end gradually getting weaker and weaker until the dogs catch up and rip them to shreds. I doubt they would feel the same!

A degree in animal welfare??? I've heard it all now. Obviously the ability to spell is not an entry requirement - or is your course conducted entirely in text speak?

Given the choice I'd rather be a hunted animal that a shot at animal for the following reasons:

a) You stand a much better chance of escaping the hunt as long as you are fit and strong

b) I'd like to be given the opportunity to escape

c) I could understand the concept of being chased and caught by a larger animal and could use my with and instinct, I would not understand the gun.

d) Shooting often wounds leading to a far more unpleasant death that that which occurs when caught by the hounds.

So though I wouldn't ban shooting, if foxes need to be controlled I'd rather there were more hunting and less shooting.

The fox hunt debate has been done to death on forums, and a hell of a lot on here. Why not do a search rather than dragging up a lot of bad feelings?

People will always have different views on things, that's what makes us unique. Fox hunting is something that will never been agreed upon by anyone but that doesn't mean that one point of view is right or wrong.

i agree that foxes can sometimes be a pest, and i agree in the killing if done in a humane way eg shooting. hunting is not and will never be humane

Shame you didn't spend as much time studying fox hunting, before you decided to post.

What fox hunting??? Foxes are only flushed and shot these days.

We are all entitled to our own apinions and it is up to you to hunt or not. When you have experianced abit more in life then your views will be more appricated by others. Dont mean that in a bad way its just that you seem to think that a fox is some kinda fluffy toy, it is a horrible vermine just like the rats we have arround. If we had rabies in the country you would soon see the foxes killed off in a flash..
