Maybe I am alone, but I feel really frustrated by the new forum :( I did a post this afternoon and it wasn't anything particularly interesting, but i wanted to know if anyone else had the same problem but of course it has disappeared about 5 pages down the forum.

Now this isn't sour grapes because noone replied to my post.............honest :D I am just finding it really difficult to browse, and if you have a very plain question to ask it doesn't seem worth it as the thread will be long gone before anyone gets round to answering it.

Also, a lot of the familiar faces seem to have disappeared, partly I guess due to the problem with log in names.

Well, that's my gripe and if anyone can help me with ideas for making this forum easier to use I'm listening.

Thanks all :)

I've started a few threads over the last few days and I didn't get many replies and I've noticed that there seems to be an awful lot of threads that get no replies at all :(

Generally I'm beginning to like the new forum but I think there are still some problems that need ironing out which I guess is to be expected.

You can sort that problem out by continutally going the bottom of the room you are in and select ..... Sorted by 'Thread start time'

It is a damned nusiance :(

I am getting SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO fed up with the slowness of this new forum ... I will be leaving it, if it does not improve :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

With you on your comments, I'm thinking that I've really missed something even though I'm fairly computer literate! Not sure what other places there are in the world to find as many people who are able to give so much experience and variance in the views in a nice environment - maybe giving up is the answer???

Will be interested in the response to your question - a good one so maybe it might stay on the page for more than 3 minutes???

Sorry, forgot to say that I usually like change and the challenge, but I'm not enjoying this one!

The 'problem' is that this forum is an extremely popular forum - even at this time of night (2.30am) there's 8 members and 68 viewers on here. This means that at peak times when there's 5 or 600+ members who could post online, any 'popular' threads can completely fill the first 2 pages which is why the little questions that require slightly more specialist knowledge are so quickly overlooked, and a few posts get many many views and tens of posts on them and remain on the front page.

Unless it can revert to the threads remaining in time order, or to select it as a permanent option for those who prefer to read the forum in this manner (of which there are many) I can't see how this can be resolved.

I know I am the worlds worst at coping with and understanding all this modern technology malarky, but there are aspects of the new forum that I am struggling with, and the slowness is SO frustrating.

I dont want to give up, because there are some wonderful people on here, and lots of fantastic advice, but its hard going at the moment! :(

Don't like the new forum at all,:( suppose the only good thing about it is I don't bother to look at it half as much as the old one so time to do other things :)

Whilst I am a closet geek, I have to agree that the way the posts jump around is frustrating - I select by Thread start time, but then forget to use the back button and have to rest after every post. However, my boss agrees with Rowan - I now have time to do some work!

aggree i only joined a few weeks ago after lurking for a year, and finding change difficult. i think Dubsie has the right answer lets hope they listen. than i can maybe intruduce myself and my horsie!

I thought it was my age ;)

I really don't like it :(

My list of gripes:
Most of the old smilies don't work
The display pages are much shorter meaning posts get lost quicker
I also don't recognise people because of name changes
The shortcut options are anything but short
PMs quote last message which is not necessary and bloomin annoying
I have no idea how to work the new fangled setting options and don't have time to trawl through and work out what I am doing!

Thank god im not the only one who is having problems! This new forum seems to move at snails pace, takes forever to load a page grrrrrrr!!

Ditto! So every cloud has a silver lining. Mind you, that said, I must still say I don't like the new format at all. Pity the old one couldn't have been jazzed up, but left the same. If you know what I mean. No reason why it has to look like every other forum type website is there???

It sounds as though the forum displays differently for different people. Mine displays in the same way as the old one with the most recently replied to post being at the top. However, I agree about the slowness but perhaps if H&H had less of the adserver.adtech.de etc etc it would be quicker. I have adverts blocked anyway (thanks Firefox!) and I have always blocked signatures too (sorry to the people who have spent a lot of time on them but the long ones are just a pain in the neck). The new forum also gave me the opportunity to change my username etc!

I have to say it is a bit faster on the iPhone, but I don't understand why youcant choose how many posts you can see. For example, on a property search website, you can choose to view between say 20 & 100 houses, much easier and would prefer this option.

I also don't like that you can't just click on the reply box at the bottom and have to click on a tiny icon. A pain on an iPhone!

Hi i have just had to completely re-register myself after the drama of trying to use the forum. It is no longer user friendly and i like others dont enjoy going on here anywhere near as much as before - hope they take note and realter things back to the good old days.

Me too! I've posted on a couple of other threads about why I dislike it so much, but it's not improving with time. The slowness is driving me mad... it takes forever both on my laptop and my office PC.

I'm fast losing interest in the whole Forum:(:(

If your thread drops off the first page or two, just go back into it via your user cp and subscriptions and post the word "Bump" then it will shoot back up to the top again.

It can also help to use the improved search facility and see if there are any similar topics that you can tag onto the end of.

I think people just need to get used to the way it works and change their practices slightly. I use vbulletin on MSE and it works fine, the moving threads means that they don't get lost forever and people tend to add to existing threads (because people can see that you have done so as they pop up to the top) rather than start new ones with a similar topic.

I'm not finding it slow, but I'm not liking the default "most popular posts" order and the few number of threads per page. I'm finding that threads get fewer views than before. I feel really really obnoxious about using the *bump* technique: if everyone did it, soon we'd have a page of threads containing only the word *bump*! I know that's not how it ends up in practice...

I also want the old smileys back!

spooky - the number of posts per view etc can be sorted by going to User CP - top left - and changing the options to suit you. The old smilies won't be back but you can use smilies - again go to UserCP again change the settings.:):)

Of course once you have changed you settings you can also use these
http://www.cosgan.de/ and post photos.:cool::D:D:D

All the answers are in Suggestions & Feedback - it just takes a few moments to get it how you want.:D

Mine doesn't show posts in most popular order, they're in order of the latest response. So, this one will be top once I've replied as it has the most recent response on it.

I've worked out how to get rid of signatures too, and it's much quicker without them!

You can choose to have upto 40 posts to a page if you go into your user options (remember to scroll down the bottom and save changes though!) You can also change how you view it using Display Mode on the right in the top bar of the forum. I know it's much better since I changed those settings for me,

I've also found it's better for me if I read each forum at a time instead of using active/new posts as I used to. Once I've read through, I mark the forum read (thread tools, I think) so if I visit again, only new threads are at the top. Now I've got used to doing that, it's much quicker. I also have instant email notification on which saves a lot of time too as you don't have to open up the posts to read them.

I'm another that wishes signatures weren't allowed as they take up so much time; I've always had them switched off from when I was only on dial up. Now there is the option to have your own picture album thing, there's no need for them at all so I wish they could go. You can always post new pic's in the gallery, people don't need to see the same sig day after day. Sorry, just my pet hate and even though I used to have one, even then, they were switched off on my machine!

I am getting SO frustrated with this forum :( Seems to take forever to log in, thats if it actually allows me to. THEN, when I do actually get into the forum, takes another age to be able to post anything..... frustrating in the extreme, and starting to feel I cannot be bothered to participate with it anymore. Which is a shame asI enjoy the "community" here as well as the infamous Hovis Friday diary :D

You can turn them off in the User CP. I've just done it and it's much faster.

Can't work out any of the other stuff you talked about though... beyond me!

Well at least I got lots of replies to this thread :D

I may be being completely dumb, but I have looked at my personal settings and I can only see a way to change the number of posts on a page and the order of the posts - that bit doesn't bother me, it is the number of thread on the page and the order the threads are in, it would be great if it defaulted to showing them in the order they were originally posted.

As for bumping, try replying to a post with 'bump' and you will see your reply must be at least 10 character, I guess you can always add some !! and smilies though! I think it will get a bit annoying if people have to keep doing this though.

Oh dear I must be getting old, can't cope with change!

To those that find this forum slow can I suggest it may well be your browser.
When the forum changed it was nigh on impossible for me to use due to the time it took to load a thread. Upgraded from IE6 to IE8 and speed is brilliant. Nothing else has been changed, same internet connection both at work and a home.
My guess is this version of VB is designed to run with the latest browsers.

I am using IE8! I'm going to change to Firefox I think and see if that helps.

Lol, sig's are one of the first things I switch off!

Just go into your user CP (top left) then to edit options and have a play around. After you have changed things, remember to scroll down to the bottom and save changes when you have finished else it won't be changed; simple! :D

Meant to say, I'm on Firefox which is good and you can block adverts which makes sites quicker but Google Chrome is another quick browser and you can import your settings so it's a painless changeover. It's also much quicker if you tick the remember me button at log in then you'll never need to log in again which saves ages. Sorry if this is teaching you to suck eggs!
