Going to yard straight from work, what do you wear?

Do you get changed at the yard? Or throw on some overtrousers?

Interested to know how others do it!

I usually get changed at the yard but not really ideal in the winter! Thinking of getting some waterproof overalls so that I can just step into them!

I change at work! Often get some funny looks on the train with hay in my hair and a dust moustache from smothering my dusty pony with kisses. But you won't catch me changing in freezing temps in the stable! Will change in there in the summer tho. And then lots of body spray!

Get changed in the office toilets and then scuttle to car. Keeps work clothes much cleaner than changing in the yard toilet! Although admittedly would probably only work in offices that already have a relatively casual dress code - so probably not a goer if you're a lawyer / medic / accountant etc.

This! Although make sure you’ve got some trainers or something because walking to the car in jods and heels isn’t the most fun (or attractive) thing.

I’ve done my share of getting changed in the stable/toilet but that’s obviously very yard-specific and always ends up with my socks covered in shavings.

I do a mixture.

I tend to ride mornings. I don’t tend to have a problem changing after riding in winter, as I am already warm. I have a small carpet mat, I put down so floor clean and not cold.

I do a full change, apply deodorant, wash hands and fingernails at work. I keep more deodorant in work loos.

I can also change in the office, and the changing room / shower, is by the door to the underground carpark, so fairly subtle.

I think if I was going to ride after work, in winter, I might change at work. But depends on time I am leaving. If leaving before 5.05pm, every minute counts before traffic builds.

I just changed in the office loos before leaving work. There were usually a couple of us in there changing into jodhs, occasionally including the CEO.

If I'd ridden before work, I'd shower and change at the office.

I changed in my share horse's stable once, and I've never seen him look so horrified!

Also depending on what I am doing at yard, after work, I don't always change. Sometimes just change shoes and put on coat. Yard is vaguely on my way home. So if just doing quick jobs isn't worth changing. Especially if my work clothes are due a wash anyway. Fields are mud free and dry, as are horses at the moment.

When I was on DIY and had casual dress code at work, used to get changed in horse's stable before work, then when it got colder would get changed in office loos. After work I'd just ride in jeans and change my jumper in the car. Now I'm working in a posh office and on part livery, I get to the yard and change there to save time/not get stuck in traffic. We're v lucky with how nice our loos at the yard are.

I change in the loo at work, I actually got super excited as I have a shopper bag that is my 'horsey clothes bag' - it has been in my wardrobe for 6 months after retiring the boy in my signature. My office mates noticed it appearing again when I got my new boy and I got super giddy and went to show my boss! :)

A bit spoilt in that the yard loo has underfloor heating! It still tends to be covered in hay and shavings and no loo roll but you can't have everything. So I get changed in there, I make myself get changed as soon as I arrive though, as if I pop round to pat the pony first I can guarantee I'll be too lazy to change and ride. The only issue is in winter my riding gear gets freezing cold sat in the car, but if I bring the bag with it into the office to keep warm it's a bit smelly!

Over here, all the yards I've visited have a big room at one end of the hayloft over the stables, where people can keep gear in locked tin chests.

If I was going to go to the yard every single day after work, I think I'd take leave a set of clothes at the yard, probably in one of those tin chests with and change there, just carrying my boots in a boot bag; I'd take the clothes home to wash them every now and again, I suppose...

Is the boy in your signature the tortoise? :)

I change in the car at the farm if too cold, or in the yard toilets. Our car park is sheltered and people can't see if the car is dark so no problem there. I couldn't get changed at work, purely because I have to walk through town to the car park, and whilst not adverse to going anywhere in horse attire, I can't bring myself to subject my colleagues to the horse smell!

I wear (non sterile) scrubs so if they’re on their last day (change tops daily, trousers once run out if tops that match!) I just wear a hoody over the top and the trousers as are- I change into jods if they’re not on their last day. Well you did ask :p

I do one of 3 things...

If I'm riding or wearing super smart work clothes I change in my lorry living.

If it's warm nd im just doing jobs I just put my boots on with work clothes. Work clothes only ever do 1 day anyway.

If it's cold boots go on with my long padded jacket that covers work clothes.

I never pit my yard clothes on at work. Oh the shame! Weird that I feel like this despite not caring about walking round the supermarket in the same clothes after the yard when they are covered in hay and smelling very horsey!

I tend to go to the yard after work. In the summer, I change at the yard if I am riding (otherwise, I just put boots on). In the winter, I tend to wear leggings, long sleeved t shirt and put a dress over the top for work. When I get to the yard, I just take the dress off the top, put a coat on and I am ready for action 😂

Anyone wear work clothes under overalls or similar?

Yard doesn't really have an appropriate place to get changed and work wouldn't be too pleased though I've done it once in a while. I'm probably wasting 40 minutes going home and getting changed. Its fine at the moment as she's out 24/7 so I often ride in jeans and just wash them but come winter she'll be in and I'll need to be mucking out.

That's what I was thinking of doing. Dirty Days, I think the website is called, do some nice overalls so that I can literally drive straight there, get out my car and step into the overalls, wellies on and get everything done. It's not so much an issue in the summer when it's warm and still light in the evenings but I would prefer not to try and get changed in my little car as that's uncomfortable plus the yard has no lights so creepy whether I'm in or out of the car. Oh and cold! Summer or when it is dry is okay while they are out but come winter, mud, cold, mucking out and handling hay/haylage isn't practical in office clothing!

I always go from work, but also have to walk a little bit into the office so dont bother carrying my clothes! I get changed in the tack room in summer and my car in winter! I also wear the leggings and something over the top look a lot for the easy life. Gloves pre-warmed over the cars heaters in winter are lovely!!

I'm an overtrousers girl. If I wear a dress I make sure it's a soft material that can be hitched up around my bum. The trousers tend to live on the boots so I literally pop a shoe off and step into them at the car!

I always changed at work, much nicer. My workplace provided a changing area with showers though as part of a drive to encourage walking / jogging / cycling to and from work. Several of my colleagues cycled to and from work so my yard clothes were quite sedate in comparison to what they would put on. One was always training for triathlons and stuff and used to arrive in the morning soaked in sweat and looking like he'd just cycled through a hedge, so a bit of hay in the hair and a horsy smell was quite minor in comparison.

I did try overalls at one point to save time, but I found I got too hot and ended up having to change anyway. The main thing I found was wearing clothes that didn't pick up hay, shaving etc to avoid making a mess in the work toilets.

I just wear my work clothes  However, I am a zoo keeper so have already had a full day covering my clothes in animal dirt D: My poor horses probably wonder why I turf up smelling of lots of random animals!

If I do want to keep clean then I wear overtrousers :)

I do my horse on the way to work so put waterproof trousers and coat on over my clothes when its too cold to get changed at the yard, plus gloves and a hat to keep the lovely stable odours and mud under control!

I put the heater on full blast on the last half mile of the journey (the arrow pointing up towards the windscreen) and lie my clothes on top by the windscreen careful not to block my view! When I get through the gate I park up, and rush to the room next to the toilet where I really appreciate putting warm clothes on. Sometimes when its really cold I get changed in the car but it isn't the easiest task and you can bet someone will walk by your window to talk to you and you are trying desperately to hoik your jodhpurs up over your bum! :)
