Why oh why do people use tack that they have no idea on how to fit it properly.....
crazy.gif
.

Just been reading a post on here (sorry person whom it is about) where they are trying out a pelham to see if the horse goes nicely in it. Sounds smart eh? Until you see they have put the bit on upside down

.

I've seen this happen sooo many times and it frustrates the living daylights out of me. For goodness sake if you don't know how to fit the bit, get off HHO and do an Internet search to find out how to fit one correctly - or better still don't blooming use it!

It's like people who wear spurs, rip their horses sides out and wonder how in the world that could have happened.....doh! YOU did it you dope!

Gosh I really sometimes think I could give Fugly a run for her money sometimes.....

You just don't have any CREATIVITY in tack fitting and the like, do you Tia?
(Perhaps the BHS exam system does have something going for it after all....it teaches tack fitting for a start

Wasn't there a pic in H+H winter time of a horse hunting with a dutch gag upside down? Do people not look at pics any more? I'm sure in one mag you would see lots of horses in pelhams/ dutch gags so you can get some idea of what way up they go!

It is a bit scarey when people post 'How do I use spurs' or 'How do I use a Chambon' and the like - I wouldn't be posting 'How do I use a Chainsaw?' and the results could be about as gory

Tia, at the risk of going 'Baaaa' I totally agree. I was a little horrified (If you can be horrified to a little extent) when I read that

The fitting of a bit is pretty fundamental

Sorry OP

im sorry Tia but why the hell did you feel the need to take the p**s? I Didnt put it on my bridle my friend put it on, she used to ride her horse in it. im not thick and i wouldnt use it if i thought i would hurt my horse!! so if you have any problems with what i say PM me or dont F**K*NG bother!!!

i cant stand people like you, how sad making a post to laugh at someone elses expence!!

Err....no. They ARE riding the horse in the bit upside down, at least according to the photos posted, unless they have been photoshopped......

I agree completely, would never use something new without the help of my very experienced YO or my instructor. I hate it when you see tack that is completely unsuitable, or people with equipment on fitted wrongly and doing a horse no good, for example bungee reins used to tight that they hold a horse in an "outline" to use the term loosely!

Oh it is NO laughing matter to me I'm afraid - it's cruelty.

Do you think your horse cares who put the bit on upside down? I don't think so. YOU are responsible wholly for the care of your horse - not your friend.

I actually don't give a toss about what you or anyone else thinks about me, because make no mistake I think very grave thoughts about people who inflict cruelty to their animals out of pure and utter ignorance....particularly when they sit on the blooming Internet AND are a member of a horse forum. Why in the world would you not have asked how to fit the bit properly if you didn't know and why would you believe a friend who is quite clearly useless!

Tia, you crack me up, you go girl!!! OH still available for chainsaw lessons, or maybe he could post a few pics, how to start, how to saw, how to cut your legs off etc etc!!!

Maybe Sophie221 didn't ask because she thought her friend KNEW....but I'm sure she'll ask now - once bitten, twice shy
smile.gif

And no one (except me, obviously
laugh.gif
) knows everything....so we all have to get help sometimes...it's just a hard call knowing when to ask, and finding someone to trust.
I'm going to duck now

No excuse I'm afraid. Riding a 4 year old in canter with a pelham on upside down is not on. No wonder there are such messed up animals around these days....
frown.gif

I have to agree with tia on that one, after seeing one horse at our yard that had to be schooled for months to sort out the mess caused by one incorrectly fitted bit used for an hour!

this is why there some messed up horses out there !!
parents buy horse, horse gets all kitted up cos it looks good, girls dont know how to use kit and horse turns in to nitemare !!!!

I agree S! Everyone makes mistakes and we just have to hope there are people who are experienced enough to help.

No need to escalate matters, by knowingly making the thread a personal jibe, about another forum members mistake.

Off topic, I know, but on MyDeathSpace there's a story about a man who cut off his own head with a chainsaw to impress his internet lover when she backed out of a relationship.
Apparently he knocked on the door, then to prove his love, rev'd up and lopped it off.
Bet she thought 'How I wish I'd kept dating this fine specimen'

I am not saying you don't love your horse, I am saying you are potentially ruining him. Ask if you don't know - and preferably not your friend.

There is no personal jibe here - I don't know Sophie. I can't be doing with all this pussy footing around - do you honestly think if someone had picked up this photo from another website and not HHO, that you lot would say "oh well we all have to learn sometime".....bull; you'd have ripped that person to shreds.

I am not PC, never will be; I say what I see.

Right.
If you don't all kiss and make up, I'll cut my head off with a chainsaw (quick lesson Kizzywiz? Or shall I play it by 'ear' ha ha)
When my head's rolling about on the lawn, you'll be sorry!

No, I wouldn't.

You know why? I am not perfect and I don't pretend to be. The best thing anyone can do is offer their guidance and experience. On the original thread, there are people who are offering constructive help to her and not using it for a chance to have a dig.

im not ruining him!! all in all 40 mins with a bit on upside down, wont ruin my boy! im sure you tia have made mistakes!! but we dont all go criticising you on the forum!

OMG, must remind hubby to be V V careful at work tomorrow, strangely he's never cut off his head to prove his love, but suppose it takes all sorts.

im not saying you are a spoilt bratt,u havnt seen what ive seen over the years owning a livery yard !!
non horsey parents buy horse and let them get on with it then horse gets ruined by lack of knowladge, you should have seeked advice before letting your friend but bridle on !!
im not getting at you but maybe next time youl ask instead of putting pic up etc you shot yourself in the foot !!!!!!
