Yep... me too!!!

The other week I cleaned out my water feeder, and then forgot to turn the damn thing on so poor Gracey was without water all night

Definitely hell bound now

I don't usually get involved in these posts and haven't got the time to read it all but I am horrified at this. Things like this suggest that people should need some sort of licence to own a horse and should be assessed before hand. Ok we all make mistakes and do learn from them but what a mistake! This is simple stable management, how is it not cruel? The horse looks very uncomfortable, it must be very honest to allow anyone to ride it like that, and how did the rider or the photographer not notice something was wrong?

Seems like Sophie has learned at least one thing from this thread; who knows she may not be alone, therefore if others read this thread and are guilty of something similar then perhaps running searches on the Internet or asking experienced/qualified horse people will be their next port of call.

I really don't care whether I am seen as the big bad wolf LOL!! The message has been sent; it has been noted and hopefully something good will come of it. Gosh I am not selfish enough to want to be thought of as a "nice" person; I'd far rather be some old dragon who has no qualms about speaking out when seeing potential future damage being done (please note dianeXandXpepper the use of the word "potential" in both this post and previous comments
smirk.gif
).

I don't come on here to be "nice" - gosh there's no way I could come onto this site for all of these years if this was all we were allowed to be - how in the world would anyone learn anything except that their pony was the pwettiest in the world.

Make no mistake, I am on the horse's side each and every time! Especially if it is a young horse - once you have picked up the pieces of these wrecks and spent months trying to put them back together again, then come back and tell me if you think my comments were not worthwhile
wink.gif
.

If this is thought of as bitchy, then so beit, however it would certainly make me question YOUR ethics towards your horses if all you can see is that it is "bitchy" for someone to tell another off for doing something which could be potentially harmful to their horse.

Sooty; no you don't need a licence in Canada for a chainsaw (surprised me as you need a licence for almost everything else in Canada) - mine is a British licence.

Cruiser; I beg to differ; I believe something positive has come out of this thread. There was no other way to say it and I don't fuff around with beating around the bush and pretending that I was not talking about Sophie. I did not mention her by name, her threads rarely have many views so most people wouldn't have even known whom I was talking about. I was not offensive in my post - I was suggesting either check these things out properly from someone who really knows what they are talking about OR I'm sure Google is not too hard to find. A 1 minute search would have shown Sophie how to fit correctly and if she couldn't be bothered to do that then anyone on here would have happily pointed her in the right direction.
smile.gif

I do wonder about people though - when you see rudimentary things like this being fitted incorrectly, it makes me think about what else goes on that is detrimental to horses belonging to owners who are maybe not up to scratch on their equine knowledge....

Anyway the moral of the story is (as said in my initial post); for anyone using anything new on their horse; make SURE you know how to fit it correctly; if you don't then ask someone who REALLY does; or check the Internet or call up a saddler ..... or don't use it!

Actually you don't sharpen the chainsaw, just the chain itself, sorry to be pedantic. I can't believe its the next day & I'm on here again still going on about this. Does anyone know where I can get a tasteful fuscia riding outfit???

Having read this I can see where eberyone is coming from but I definitely agree with Tia on the point she made.

My opinion is that no one came out to enforce a witch hunt on you Sophie, you asked how you looked and somebody replied albeit on different post. I doubt the situation would have got so inflamed if (for want of a better word) you hadn't "gone off on one" and then had to back track and make excuses. Everyone makes mistakes, but it is being able to admit when you have made one and listen to the concern and then rectifying it afterwards. Unfortunately, you seemed to pass th ebuck to your friend, then blamed it on her being blonde and then because you don't read many books! Now, not only does that cause massive offence to some people (myself included) but it is the cowards way out by not taking responsibility for your actions. You said something about only wanting genuine repsonses from people (i remember it being something like that) and people are being genuine in their responses! There is no point putting a post on here if you all you want to hear and take notice of are the "cotton wool" comments. There is no wrong in positive feedback but if you ignore the negative which is usually infinitely more helpful, then you are not only blinkering your own progress but that of your horse.

That said, maybe next time go to an instructor (or similar) and ask them for help if you will be dealing with something that you are not accustomed to.

Pheww!

No excuse I'm afraid. Riding a 4 year old in canter with a pelham on upside down is not on. No wonder there are such messed up animals around these days....

I dont think anyone minds a geuine mistake but I think people on here are concerne at your somewhat brazen acceptance of your ignorance about it. That is to say instead of saying what a stupid girl to put it on wrong and that you
d study a bit a little better next time before using it, you have just posted a huge list of excuses for your ignorance and added comments that you wont be trying to learn because you dont like to read.
Although I must add it would only have taken googling pelham to have found what it should look like in a horses mouth...so really no reading involved!!
H+H is crammed full of very knowledgeable horse people who dont suffer fools glady so probably NOT the best place to come if you dont like reading and arent open to critisism.
Hope you do find a way to learn without reading because everyone can do with learning more about horses - even people who know it all!!

And please, please..its pelham NOT pellum....

OMG has anyone read the lost our farrier post??? Got a funny feeling of deja vous here!!! By the way Sophie, I merely posted a few jokey posts, I never mentioned your stupidity in riding your horse in an upside down bit, then posting it on here. So don't really appreciate your PM, people do make jokes you know, you made a mistake, learn from it & move on.

Off topic, I know, but on MyDeathSpace there's a story about a man who cut off his own head with a chainsaw to impress his internet lover when she backed out of a relationship.
Apparently he knocked on the door, then to prove his love, rev'd up and lopped it off.
Bet she thought 'How I wish I'd kept dating this fine specimen'
