JD has been up all night poorly, diarrhoea and vomiting, which has turned into bright pink bile. Vet appointment booked for 10am. She’s just had blood red diarrhoea 😞
She’s 14 in a month and I really thought we’d reach that.
Yesterday she was totally normal, lively, eating, normal poo and pee. Today she looks like so sad and fed up.
Preparing myself for the worst, but hoping for the best.

Well we are home, with JD. They’ve taken bloods to screen for everything, results should be back by lunchtime. Temperature was higher end of normal and heart rate was fast, but she was nervous at the vets. She’s lost 300g since January, so that’s not too bad, as we have been worried about weight loss.

Hopefully by lunchtime we’ll have a better idea if it’s being caused by something sinister or if it’s something treatable. She’s home with some binding paste stuff and some omeprazole. She’s quiet but has stopped being sick and pooping. Fingers crossed that the bloods don’t show any major cause for concern. If they do, we have already made our minds up that we will call it a day.
Thanks for the kind messages, I’ll update you later on the blood results.

Oh no, poor you. It's never easy to be in that worrying situation when part of you hope that it's something treatable, at the same time as you know that it might not be.
Nice to hear that you're agreeing about what to do if the news aren't good, so you don't have to argue about that sort of stuff on top of all the worry.

Really hope you'll get to keep your JD for a bit more time, but big {{{{{Hugs}}}}}, and lots of sympathy if you get bad news.

So she looks to have pancreatitis. No idea what’s caused it but the bloods showed a particular enzyme was high, so they asked if they could run the pancreatic blood test and that came back sky high.

They want to see her in the morning to see how she’s getting on and make a plan, but we aren’t feeling very hopeful. They did suggest admitting her in tomorrow to get fluids into her, but I’ve just had a chat with my mum and we don’t think it’s fair to keep her going if it comes to that. JD has never been away from us and we would hate her to feel frightened and in a strange place, when the prognosis may still be very guarded. I think, given her age, I’d rather she went to sleep with her family around her.

So we’ve just got to see what tomorrow brings, but I’m prepared that we might be saying goodbye 😞

How rotten. Thinking of you and JD and your mum. She's obviously in the right hands but sending some vibes as sometimes they surprise us by bouncing back even when old. I hope you have a peaceful night. x

So sorry you’re in this position, but can I say how lucky she is to have a mum who is putting her well-being and quality (over quantity) of life first.

I’d be of exactly the same frame of mind as you. As hard as it is- you are being the best owner she could hope for ❤️ all fingers crossed for her to be feeling loads better tomorrow xx

Don't know what you do for work @scats , but if you can work remotely from a laptop, could you stay with her at the vets? Even though my dogs has been/are usually not that stressed at the vets, when they get old I don't want to risk adding stress by leaving them alone at the vets, so it has happened several times that my vets have given me an own room, where I've stayed for some/several hours to keep one of my old dogs company.

If that's not an option due to your work, or that it would be too stressful for her even with the 2 of you alone in a room because she would still know she's at the vets, I totally understand, I just wanted to mention it because I don't think many people think about that you don't always have to leave your dog at the vets.

Whatever you do, even though you sound very brave, and realistic, it's never easy, because you love them so much.
More {{{{{Hugs}}}}}, and sympathy from me.
