She seems brighter this morning but she’s had awful diarrhoea in the night and didn’t wake us up. My kitchen… well, you can imagine.
She’s just gone out side and done more, it’s literally coming out like water. No blood in it today though but her poor bum is sore.
We’re just going to have a chat now about where we go from here :(

That’s good (although not so good for your kitchen!). It means her guts are working. I think I would just carry on monitoring for now and introduce bland food when she’s ready, a bit at a time.

Dorwest herbs tree barks powder is a gentle way to bind poo. Hope she’s feeling less sore soon. Will she let you pop some Vaseline on her bot?

Diarrhoea without blood still sounds like a big step in the right direction. Her earlier diarrhoeas have probably wrecked havoc with her gut bacterias, and it's no surprise her poor bum is sore.
Hope the veterinarian was able to offer suggestions about her food, or things like Canikur and/or other Probiotics, which maybe could help stop up things, and "calm down" her intestines.

I wouldn’t panic over much about the diarrhoea. I have a seven-month-old Lab with a severe intolerance to fat. When she has too much, her pancreatic values elevate, so while it’s not pancreatitis, it isn’t a million miles away. During a flare up, she has bouts of hemorrhagic gastroenteritis.

The episodes she’s had (plus a slight relapse on the back of the second) both started the same way. First, we had severe vomiting (sometimes with blood in it). Then, the bloody diarrhoea began. On both occasions, this is the point where she was admitted to the vet hospital for fluid therapy.

Both times, she was allowed to come home with diarrhoea which took a while to resolve. As long as it was blood free (or even if it had a small amount in the immediate aftermath), we were told not to worry. You have to remember that these things are a big deal for their bodies and do take time to resolve, so don’t panic yet.

So she ate her medication this morning and was keen to go for a walk. Let her off on the little dirt track for a bit and she pottered around happily, sniffing. She did do another bit of diarrhoea while she was out.
She’s asleep in the living room now. It’s so difficult because she doesn’t seem distressed or in pain, she just looks a bit listless, which I’m not surprised after hardly eating for days. She is still barking at the dogs who come up the drive (my work dogs) so she’s engaging with her surroundings still.
I think we have decided to see how today and this evening goes- see how she responds to having her medication later and how she is on her evening walk and overnight.

Keeping everything crossed that she continues steadily improving 🤞🏻

She's clearly still able to enjoy doing her doggy stuff.
Hope the medication helps her.

P.s. To be on the safe side, have you thought about maybe putting out some newspapers on the kitchen floor over the night? Just to hopefully make it easier for yourself to clean up if she has another accident.

JD had a good evening- she happily went for a walk and started wanting food, so she had some rice and boiled chicken for tea and kept it down. Got her medication in her. She got us up once in the night for a bit of diarrhoea, but there’s not much in her now so it was only a tiny amount. She was hungry this morning and had a little breakfast with her meds again. She’s been out sniffing around the garden and she’s going to the sand dunes this morning for a walk. She’s got more energy so she’s had some food. Fingers tightly crossed that we are on the up!

I am so pleased to read that update. She sounds as if she is still up for life in general :). It is so hard when they are older and you love them so much but she is lucky to have such caring and unselfish owners. Sending more vibes for a continued recovery. x

So glad to hear it seems to continue going in the right direction. {{{{{{Vibes}}}}}}

It's so emotionally draining to be in your situation, wanting to do what's best for her by not holding on for too long, at the same time not letting go too easy in case she might be able to recover with the right help. Don't forget to take care of yourself.

That's a good update. If you do decide to have a scan, ultrasound can be done without sedation on a co-operative dog. One of our Rottweilers had a US, while in the surgery for an emergency appointment after a disturbed night. Sadly the vet found found an inoperable splenetic tumour which had wrapped itself around the bowel. But it can be done.

Bless her she looks lovely and reminds me of our old girlie who we lost 6 years ago. That little "canter" and tail up is just heartwarming.

Another little update. JD had a good weekend and is pretty much back to normal. Today we went to our local country park for a walk, just me and her. We used to go here all the time when she was younger and she loves it. I thought she’d just want to do a shorter walk but she headed off up to one of her favourite routes up on the common so that’s where we went :)

That’s North Wales in the distance.

She had a fabulous time wandering and sniffing in the woods and we were out for a good hour (my ankle is now the size of a small county!)
What a perfect afternoon spent with my girl. We are so lucky to get this extra time with her.

She’d also been on her morning walk as normal, so we assumed she wouldn’t want her evening walk, but by 5pm she was at the door wanting to go back out for another walk. So back out she went! 😅
