Grand National meeting.

Yeah. I've never been to a horse race but it's really weird to think that horses can be celebrated one minute, dead the next, and the party carries on metres from where the horse potentially took its last breath.
I own shares in horses, smaller shares in micro syndicates and from this year larger shares in others.
I also spend as much time as possible going racing. I think to an extent you have to accept it’s a possibility, ore you wouldn’t watch. It’s still absolutely awful when it happens.

Not Aintree, not NH but the unbelievable, incomparable and amazing Romantic Warrior has just been chinned on the line by about a mm in Dubai

Fingers crossed they all make a full recovery now.

I can feel my heart beating in my chest for the whole race until I hear if they are all ok but I’m still drawn to the national every year. They are just such amazing animals and there’s something special about watching them run
That’s me with every race, from a grade 5 at Newton Abbot to the Gold Cup. What admirable athletes they are 🥰

Yeah. I know. I think I just get a bit philosophical and soppy after the Nash because it really highlights how fragile and unpredictable life can be. We all live relatively safe, predictable lives nowadays so to see an animal's fortunes change in a split second can be quite eye-opening.

I am very surprised he got up, let's hope it's treatable

Wonder what was up with Celebre, you certainly saw him stopping very quickly as they headed from the last

Supported racing all my life. Had shares. Worked a bit in industry.
Won’t become an ‘anti’ but am finding the realities much tougher to stomach. Horses are such beautiful sensitive creatures and it’s astonishing what they will do for us and what many put up with.
I’d definitely like to see racing of 2 year olds banned.
They above said I’d feel more comfortable about owning a racehorse than a serious dressage horse at the moment.

Such good news to hear, fingers crossed it's a good outcome for both horses 🤞
I didn't think it was an instant fatality as there was no leg kicking and hoped there was a small chance he would get up.

I can't watch it either, just reading the comments is hard enough....

The horses finished walking.....
The winner nearly collapsed from exhaustion....
Another horse walked in the ambulance..

Meanwhile, the owners clueless and uncaring carry on drinking champagne....

I always feel sorry for the lads and the lasses of the injuried horses, they do love the horses but the owners and trainers, i don't think so.....
As for the punters, they don't give a shit.

I don't think that's fair. The vast majority of owners and trainers care very much about their horses. A lot of punters, especially on "celebrity" races like the National are pretty clueless about the behind the scenes part of it, but most of them want to see all the horses back safe, not just the one their money is on.

I just watched the race and i just don't understand...

Horses falling, stopping, exhausted, people screaming and that wonderful horse Broadway bay, ears forwards, so brave, kept going on and on and then crashing down.....

He didn't deserve it, won't understand what's going on either....

Even if he is ok at the end, he is going to be in pain for a while, might not even make it and what for ?

The sport ? The money ? The fame ?

Just imagine being the lad or lass looking after him, how devastated he or she must be.... How worried and stressed..

Before the race, he was an athlete and the next minute, an injuried horse worth peanuts and that's if he makes it....

Honestly, i must be different but i feel that if you really love horses, you don't agree with racing.....

I agree that some owners and trainers might care but at the end of the day, the horse must come first and sadly that's not the case...

Anyone reading this could be forgiven for not knowing that we ride horses, jump them, make them go in endless circles, jump massive fences etc etc
We use horses for sport, if you don’t agree then campaign for it to stop but for now it carries on and today should be about the racing.
