I have to say that my extremely cheap end dryer, with one twisty dial and about three settings options, does it's job extremely well.

I have probably jinxed it now and it will die a horrible death, just when we have a week of lashing rain which I am currently watching bouncing off the terrace outside the back door.

Which is where apparently I should have my washing line.

Why are your clothes crispy? I’ve never had crispy clothes from drying outside and I fold them when I take them in, so no need to iron either.
It could be because they are out from 8am-9pm. I don’t have time during the day to get it in and fold. If it’s not a breezy day they need ironing. I suppose it depends what materials they are as to whether the creases come but despite my laziness, I don’t like to look lazy ?.

Have you ever had a tumble dryer? If so, you’d know ?

Yes I have but rarely used it. I much prefer line dried clothes.

I find my cheap Beko washing machine does such a good job of spinning that sometimes I’m not sure if I’ve actually forgotten to start the wash cycle! I dry either on the line outside or on my two cat climbing frames in the spare room ?I forgot to add that I tastefully hang tops on hangers on doors to dry them. ?

.

I think that is why I find it so easy to manage without a drier. Clothes come out of this machine almost dry, it does the best job of spinning I have ever come across and anything on a program not on the max spin speed gets another go on max.
Then they go on a hanging airer that pulls up to the ceiling on pulleys and by the morning in winter they are dry. (in summer they go on the outside line) The central heating is running all the time in winter and there is a radiator just under the clothes airer.
The walls and ceiling are painted brilliant white and even though it is years since they were painted they are still brilliant white. Absolutely no mould. :D

Couldn't have a drier even if I wanted one as I have nowhere to put it. Washing machine is under a worktop.

I was thinking of this thread today. I've done a big wash, and although I do prefer to line dry when I can, today it's 1. raining 2. farmer neighbour has been muck spreading 3. we had our septic tank emptied.

So the tumble dryer it was :D.

Tou should have it all draped round your house, artfully, getting that slightly mildewy fragrance going to offset that of the septic tank ?

I'd love to have a tumble dryer, it's one of the things i miss most about being in this rubbish house. it's forecast to rain for a few days now and trying to dry washing indoors is a PITA plus as a rental we aren't really supposed to do it. sheets and towels have to wait for dry days. was hard enough getting an extractor fan put in the bathroom, i am not quite sure how we are supposed to avoid getting it damp in here (not breathe, possibly?)

if we put a clothes horse in the kitchen you wouldn't be able to access the sink, or the oven, or the fridge... kitchen being about 1m x 2m so its things on radiators and hanging on the bannisters/bed frame/picture hooks/you name it. if we get our PP I'm bunging a dryer in the barn as soon as the electricity gets connected, haha

i had a condensing one in a previous house - useless. replaced with one with a hose that went out of the window and it was 100% better.

I get the rain., I just about get the farmer could spread muck over your washing line but what on earth has emptying the septic tank got to do with anything. When ours is emptied we take the lids off the driver sticks the hose in and water is hosed in if necessary. My washing is the other side of the garden wall and I would never consider it to be at risk. `any odour is very minimal and is gone as soon as the lids go back on.

Maybe just accept that not everyone is like you ...

The muck doesn't come anywhere near my land or my washing, but the strong smell of ripe cow muck certainly did. It was mega whiffy here all day. I've no problem with that, we live out in the sticks in dairy country and my farmer neighbour has got a job to do. I do draw the line at my clean washing picking up the smell of cow muck, though, when I have an alternative.

I don't even know if today's septic tank emptying was smelly or not, the smell of cow muck was far stronger and it obliterated any other odours, good or bad :D.

I do have a very strong sense of smell, which is a mixed blessing. So if clothes smell at all stale, that is unbearable for me.
