Took my horse in tonight for feeding/check & he was very very sweaty under his rug.
He is 16yr old IDX, lives out 24/7 & has a trace clip- he is quite woolley & it has grown in alot already!
I have never taken him in like this before though!
He was in a lightweight no fill rug until about two weeks ago when the weather began to get bit frosty and unpredictable so i changed him to a mw (200fill). is he sweating because the weather is unpredictable and he's perhaps over-rugged at times when milder?
it worried me seeing him like this so i waited until he dried off and have put a older mw no neck on him before turning him back out.
my first thought was that he must have been galloping around the field as two of the other horse in his field had been taken in but this would be unusual as he still had a field mate. He ate his feed fine and then some hay.
any suggestions/advice welcomed.
Thanks
