HHO horsey weekend, a musing!

Re Solihull......two indoor schools, one outdoor. XC courses 80cm to novice. Off road riding. Some permanent on-site stabling. Café, showers and toilets. Walking distance to pub.

All I read of that was, "walking distance to pub" lol.

Yep, facilities are fab as I saw on the website, I am just waiting to hear back re what facilities would be available for what cost. :)

I would be interested but all the places named are too far away. I suppose the people in Scotland ought to try to organize a Scottish gathering if they want one.

I would very much hate to miss out on that. I wouldn't travel the horses that far but would love to make the journey and meet any of you that attended. I'd be happy to organise if people give me ideas of venues :)

~slowly sharpens axe~

Sure! Sounds fab!

~adds petrol to the 3 chain saws I own~

When are we meeting again??

Here's your pub:

And here's the 'on-site' hotel (accessed via the same drive as SRC) http://www.hogarths.co.uk/
Not sure if the bar is open to non-residents, but if it is, that's staggering distance rather than walking distance! :)

Solihull town centre for night clubs or whatever is only a 5 min drive away........just thinking of those younger than I! :)

Solihull nightlife is dire ;)

Plenty of good restaurants though!

I would be interested in this JS, not the horse side of things, but def the meet up :) provided it doesn't mean driving hundreds of miles and not too expensive.

My very good friend, who shares all my horses has just been commanded to join hho as I want her to come with us. She keeps saying she will join as I talk about HHO a lot. Let's see.

I think it should be made pretty clear that folk have to pay up even if they do not make it - even if their pony does become lame - unless the place can be filled by some one else. The last thing JS will need is a booked up camp and then the week before loads of messages saying x or y is now lame - which may be a fact but its not fair on the folk that do the work.

Maybe is should be on the lines of a £75 deposit non refundable if less than 12 weeks before the date of the camp and all monies due 8 weeks before the event.

This way everyone knows where they stand and its a bit less hassle for the organiser ??

I would be ridiculously keen for this. I dont have transport, so unless someone was going from aberdeenshire geoff would have to stay home, but i would love to be involved in the meet up!! Somewhere like auchlishie could be perfect as fairly central?

Thanks for the input GW but it won't need to be anything like that. :)

I've done enough of these to know what I'm doing and systems like that are just one big headache and not actually necessary.

If people come, they come, if they cancel, they cancel...that will be between them and the provider of accommodation/camping facilities so it doesn't need to be an issue :)

I would be keen to do this depending on cost. I wouldn't bring my horse as too far away but would enjoy watching others. I would happily camp too!

Sounds great, well done for potentially organising it. Unfortunately too many females in one place for me (still scarred by the all girls school haha)....... but would love to see the photos.

I don't have transport, either, so my horse would have to stay home as well. But a meet up would still be fun. I wouldn't know where to start in terms of venues. I guess it depends if people wanted clinic-type things or any kind of riding or were happy hiking on foot or whatever and going to the pub.

I have some ideas....I do know Scotland quite well so leave this with me :)

Id be up for coming (love a good social event....especially a horsey one!)
I probably wouldn't have a new horse by then (will be looking in the autumn) but up for coming along anyway!

Depending on where I am based at the time of the weekend (current job runs out in aug- will prob move from Norfolk down to Gloucestershire) I have a 4x4 and can tow (although no trailer anymore) so I can always transport someone if needed.

So ridiculously keen. Tbh whilst I would love to meet some of the HHOers horses, I'm not worried about a trainin type weekend - and anyone who has followed out updates knows how Geoff is in crowds of horses, so a meetup, lots of horsy chat and BBQ and gin sounds perfect and much less stressful! :)

And camping would be preferable as I am also too skint for hotels and such luxuries. :) You can camp out the back of the King's House Hotel in Glencoe, or the Bridge of Orchy Hotel, so people who want to stay in civilisation can. Some set up like that -- a hotel near a campground or place to camp, may suit the most people.

This is what I always try to do. Options. People can go budget style and camp (I will) or use other options that are adjacent or very close by :)

I would be soooo up for this. I'd really like the opportunity to have lessons daily in different disciplines.

Although I'm going to sound like a massive wimp for saying this, but I'd really appreciate an experienced HHO to take me under their wing. I will have only just started driving my 3.5tonne and it'll be the first time I've taken Elvis anywhere on my own. And I can just see myself getting really anxious about travelling him by myself and then about managing him myself. (I realise I sound so pathetic)

I'd still come without Elvis if no-one was available to help though.

So anyone in the SE (Winchester, basingstoke, Guildford area) willing to take a pathetic 22 year old under their wing? (I'd be willing to let you ride Elvis in the more advanced lessons, whilst I ride him in the novicey ones, he's fit enough for it!)

I'm happy to come and teach, I'm fully qualified BHS senior Coach and ukcc level three coach. I am happy to teach flat or jumping... Can provide references. I would also like to bring three horses along.
