Hooray a positive at last! aka - I love my Pelham and I'm not afraid to admit it

So all bitted horses are basically unhappy and anyone using tack is according to you a crap rider and not even worthy of sitting on a horse? Seriously get a grip and take your head out your arse, if this is such a revelation i struggle to understand why people like you are (thankfully!) such a minority.
And as to your comment on lack of empathy, what a joke, i dont think ive ever heard such a narrow minded, intolerant crap being spouted on people and there horses that youve never even seen or met. Just what exactly gives you the god given right to judge others anyway?

Firstly, I would suggest that you learn some manners: no-one will listen well to rude people no matter how valid their arguments. "Broken down horses" are not allowed in competition; that's what vet assesments are for. Charlotte Dujardin is a double Olympic medallist in dressage, something I'll warrent you are not, and the breath of fresh air in that is that the "Hester" method is patently free, forward and NOT based on rollkur. The training and ultimately riding of horses is something that has evolved over more than 4,000 years; 3,999 of them have involved some form of control involving signals sent through bits.

Oh i apologise prefusely. Charlotte trains rollkhur, her videos were there for all the world to see and were spread all over facebook. Respect gone for that one.
Mentally broken down horses are not allowed in competition? Do you never stop to look in the eyes of those horses? Their expressions? now i really am stunned at the lack of equine knowledge. I do not mean physically broken down, so do tell me oh wise one, how do you measure "mental breakdown" in horses, for a competition? Please share with me. Forgetting my manners because most on this thread are not worthy of manners!

There's only one person on this thread showing no manners .

Ok, so i'm not allowed to judge, insult, nor sit on my high horse etc because i disagree with about 95% of you on this thread, the other 5% i have total respect for.

BUT you are allowed to judge, insult and sit on high horses etc?!

Oh what it must be like to sit in a world in total agreement all of the time, don't like your little boat rocking here do you?!

As i said, go to bed, take your frustration out on your hubbies, not your horses and the world will be a better place :D it's been fun.

harriettb I have heard St Johns Wort can be good for a mid life crisis.
But back to the original thread...Lost Claus...2 reins are better than roundings, just food for thought as it gives you more flexibility.

Where on this thread has any one judged what you say you do the judging has all come from you but since you invite it I find you offensive from the Spanish invisision to the Taliban people like you have have found happy homes , do enjoy .

You are incredibly rude Harriet. Don't swear at people you don't agree with, it makes you look pathetic and it how dare you suggest that we all have horses because our husbands aren't enough. Go back to the forum which you speak of that agrees with your foul mouthed views.

Only ever ridden in a snaffle before so it was all an experiment - but seeing as it went so well and I will more than likely be keeping the pelham for all areas of riding - maybe I will look into trying with two reins in the future. Only had the horse just under 2 months so trying to keep it all simple and taking small steps. I'm not opposed to trying it - just not had the opportunity to yet :)

Now, I happen to have two rescue horses; both have been severely abused and both I have spent a long, long time "looking into their eyes". Mental breakdown? How about terrified of tack, raised voices, whips (or even bending down to pick up one)? Terrified of a raised arm, afraid to eat with a person in the stable, to be caught, to be touched, brushed, a hand on the rein, the leadrope, the rein, a foot in the stirrup, a leg on the side, to move, even? Don't talk to ME or my HORSES about abuse: been there, done the rehab work and have happy, if fragile, horses that work and have good lives after REAL abuse. Riding with a bit is not the worst thing that can happen to a horse, but stupid, ignorant treatment often is. Now please stop being rude, go away and occupy your own little world. We await your bitless, tackless debut with breathless anticipation.

He he, go Claus.....back to your original post: some horses apreciate the use of the curb groove far better than the bars of the mouth - it's not about relative severity; just what suits your particular horse, and built-on-the-forehand types such as cobs very often prefer pelhams to pinchy snaffles any day. Remember; it takes two to pull.
