Horse collapsing under saddle - any experiences...?

Abscess in foot! A ton of pus. Draining video very ???. This is why he collapsed. It isn’t why he has been jolly difficult for the last several months. I have had him on magnesium and he has been significantly less sharp, so we shall see where we are once the foot has cleared up.

V relieved as I really thought I would be coming home with an empty lorry.
Thank God ?

He started getting stroppy when the clocks changed, but a lot changed then iro mgmt. I had to stop riding daily, I closed most of the fields, our ground turned to swamp... Would have been a good time to start brewing an abscess, but he hasn’t been lame, not before Monday, just stroppy in an explosive sort of way!

Great outcome!

It may not be why he has been difficult for several months, but both the abscess and the sharp behaviour could have the same root cause. I would think about having him tested for Cushings if you haven't already.

So lots of things that may have impacted - honestly though I can only speak about my dental experiences and I am phobic of the dentist (sit in the chair and shake) so I ignore lots. But I started with a bit of occasional throbby discomfort, built up to 2 or 3 times a year each time getting more severe but I would say I'd had at least 5 or more occurrences before I was even in enough pain for long enough to take painkillers for it. Mostly I'd just have a day or two of being consistently uncomfortable with occasional peaks. I can easily understand how a horse experiencing that in a foot would display random outbursts.
That said I wouldn't let that stop me running a few straightforward bloods etc

Really pleased you found an abcess and nothing worse. I hope it's a root cause of the issue - I've a similar dental fear to Roxylola and have had the same experiences...

I will ask the vet for the video. It was a real gusher!

Yeah, I am so overwhelmed to get a good outccome. I was 99.999% certain that they were going to find something awful that meant PTS. While I was waiting, I shut the partition & put the ramp back up as it just felt too awful to leave it all open when I didn't think he would be making the return journey...

Have now been heavily on the gin so feeling no pain... :D
