3 yard cats and 2 ponies
So glad your boy has rallied.
You're right and this does mean that I have been able to make tentative arrangements. He's never seemed his age before this. Only started slowing down about a year ago and was ridden Christmas eve! I do now have a much better idea of what will happen, so if he does go downhill or a repeat episode occurs and I decide on pts, I'm better prepared. For now we're treating as a one off bacterial infection, but I'm mindful that these symptoms may be a red herring. It is great that your horse is feeling better, but please be aware that an old horse is...an old horse, and the inevitable will of course be inevitable. Not wanting to be the downer here, but this may well be the time time to make your plans for the future... :-(

A thread I never wanted to write. My pony is quite ill.and there's a real chance I'll lose him if he doesn't improve. After 2 days, he's not responding to treatment and he's an old boy. I'm therefore thinking of my options, as I won't be able to when the time comes. Hoping to donate him to my local vet school, but if not, how much is a cremation for a pony of around 300 kg? Cost will probably determine whether I go for individual or not.
