Will have to move yard once we sell our house and move area. Just wondering how far some of you travel to your horse. I am lucky just now as its only 5 -10 minutes away.
About 19 miles which usually takes about 25/30 mins in good traffic but in bad traffic it can take alot longer. We have to drive through our local large and busy town so rush hour is a nightmare!
it's about 5 miles as the crow flies so I can walk if the car is bust or the roads too icy, but takes 10 mins or so to get there by car. I would go up to about 20mins I suppose.
Used to be 1 mile away but then when I went to uni he went to a friends so when I came back at the weekends had to travel 20miles, took about 40 minutes.
As little as 7 minutes (with my foot down and no traffic
) but normally about 13 minutes
Lucky in that I work and keep my horse on the same place,so my desk is all of 500 yards from the yard!
Had a friend who used to drive 40 miles to get to one yard- every day. Couldn't do that myself.

How many times a day do you go up if you are further away. Still twice or does someone do your horse either morning or night?

I go up once a day - YO turns out in the morning then I muck out, feed etc in the evening with my head-torch. Sometimes swap the other way round depending on work but it already costs £40 a week in petrol just going up once a day. Technically it would be cheaper to pay the YO a few quid for the full day but I like seeing him every evening.

Now the horses are in at night I go up in the evenings every day and one morning a week. Everyone on the yard has to travel quite a distance to get there so we take turns doing the mornings, meaning one person will feed and turnout all 10 horses once a week
we used to travel a 32mile round trip twice a day everyday, would have used the YO but she was useless & didnt trust her. i was frequently asked to turn out the horses that she was meant to be doin! we would have moved them but my mare was pregnant & didnt want to disrupt her.
we now have to walk 50m to the yard! heaven! but i dont know what to do with the spare 2hrs a day now i dont have to drive there!
