I had a bit of a shock today when I went to collect 3 rugs that I had sent in to be washed and re-proofed, two of them are Turnouts, the other a stable (so no proofing needed) and the total came to about £70. I nearly fell over in shock!! I only had them cleaned so I could sell them

What has annoyed me the most is that they are trying to charge me £12 for the cleaning of a neck cover that was attached to the rug when I sent it in  Is this normal?

All 3 rugs are still stuck there as stupid me didn't take enough cash (and didn't have my card with me) so I'll have to go back next week for them, next time I will definitley check the prices before I book them in  :o

So what do you pay for cleaning and reproofing of turnout rugs? and the cleaning of stable rugs?

I work in a tack shp and we have a rug cleaning service. We charge

£11.99 for a clean for stable or turnout.
£8.99 for a neck wash.
£18.99 for a wash and reproof for turnout.
£21.99 for wash and reproof for a combo turnout.
£13.99 for a wash and reproof of a turnout neck.

We don't wash the rug onsite. We send them to a seperate company who do it. In future leave the neck on the rug and you should only get charged the combo price rather than for the neck separately. Thats what we suggest to customers. Hope that helps.

I was hoping you'd respond Slinky :D Your's are the kind of prices I am used to and was expecting!

Rachel - The neck was attached to the rug which is what I am not happy about, I even have the original form and the rug and hood were booked in as one item!

Rug Wash Only £9.00
Turnout 1/2 neck wash £10.00
Turnout 1/2 neck wash and reproof £17.50

Thats my locals price list but sometime they give me a discount for my pony rugs.

£70?! Are you sure they gave you the right bill?

At my yard you pay £6.00 and you get to use the whole washing machine for one full cycle so its just how ever much you can squish in :) i have learnt the art of folding rugs so its great value for money :D

I charge £14 for wash and re-proof turnouts, neck cover or not
£7 for Stable rugs
£6 for fleeces/coolers/fly rugs
£5 for travel boots and tail guard
£2 for numnahs
£9 to wash a turnout only, neck cover or not

I use Nikwax and Nuumed products only, some places charge more for Nikwax and less for other products. I also get as many hairs off as I can. Some places charge by the hour for this.

Your bill sounds horrendous, I would complain if I were you.

N.B my charges havent gone up for the last 2yrs, I am trying to keep costs down for the equine community. May have to increase the turnouts price in the New Year by £1 to cover increasing costs now.

£2!!! :D in the local (and obviously MINGING!) launderette - ok, the rugs don't get fixed or dried, but shove some re-proof stuff in the machine and for £2 - sparkly clean re proofed rugs! yeay! Just never take your actual clothes there!!

I think at the place I used it's about £18 for a wash and reproof of a turnout and about £12 maybe for a stable rug, can't remember really on the stable rug front. Repairs start from £5 but I've never had to pay more than a fiver yet for several small patches.

I have just bought a washing machine specifically to wash my rugs from Ebay £499. Its a new version of the old twin tub like my mother used (and me when I got married a hundred years ago, we were poor and an automatic was well out of the question then!!)
I have 20 ponies each of whom has around 5 rugs and I am fed up of having to sling them when for a little effort and repair they could do years more. I have invested in this machine to spare me costs like the OP,s !! The machine washes up to 7ft 3 rugs and spins dry.
A night in the boiler room and we will be set ! Can reproof too I expect. Marvellous, havnt been so excited in years !
I lead a sad life.

ouchy. The place we take them to is £4.99 for a wash and £8.99 for a wash and reproof.

To be honest they do come back a bit hairy still, but it's such a good price I'm not overly bothered.

I pay €20 to get my rugs cleaned and repaired, once you have 5 or more together. We bunch rugs together to make the 5, I think its really cheap, but they come back and I always think they are not my rugs, they look that good!!
