At the moment, every time I ride.Am using Pessoa to improve my boy's top line,etc. On the one hand, I find it boring, but it has a couple of benefits: it improves his way of going & loosens him up before I get on, I can really observe his gaits from the ground, and it improves rider-horse bond.
 
I lunge horses as needed, and tend to do so less as their way of going/muscling/balance/whatever improves.Very good for working on specific things; not as a substitute for exercise/proper work 'tho.
 
At the moment, with our big girl three or four times a week - weather is horrendous and our outdoor school is flooded :( she hates being ridden in the indoor, so we use the time to lunge with tack and side reins.
Generally warm her up for 10 minutes without side reins on each rein then put the side reins on for 10 minutes then warm down. She tends to work well and I think she'd tell us if she didn't want to! ;)
I rarely lunged Kelly when she was in work as she just tends to think it's play time and turns herself inside out - at the moment, she is only being hacked.
I know people who never lunge and people who lunge each time they ride - personal rider and horse preference I think.

Up until the end of November I was lunging my mares four times a week but the ground is too slippy now (I have no ménage) so I have turned them away for the next couple of months as I can't ride at the moment either.
 
Four to five times a week, with a bit of long-lining thrown in - he does two days on and a day's rest in between. However, this is because he was diagnosed with mild KS and we are under a 12 week work programme to try and get some muscle along his back. I suspect that this will be prolonged somewhat as a result of the weather. I am also only riding him for 10 minutes twice a week in an effort to rehabilitate him to the saddle. This should increase in the New Year to three times and then build on that. We will then drop to two to three times per week as maintenance.
 
Lunging every day at the moment as fields are shut. I lunge in the morning and ride in the evening so she gets out both ends of the day. Would walk her in hand but she is much harder to handle walking around than she is when tacked up. When fields are open she is lunged probably twice a week in the Pessoa
 
Very similar to Hereshopping. On vet's advice- older horse had injections for kissing spine, lunged 4 - 5 times a week in pessoa, worked in school the other two days. He does go out every day as well so is not just seeing the stable and the school. Initially post injection was being lunged twice a day for 6 weeks.
 
Usually I lunge about once a month but at the moment I am lunging a couple of times a week! simply because the horses are having to stay in due to fields flooding and my boy can get a bit stiff if not exercised daily. We are getting a horse walker shortly so will go back to once a month :)
 
About twice a year, on average. I've never found it very useful for my horse. I've never found a training aid that really works for her so it's a bit unproductive.
 
I would at least once a week but my horse is a loon and uses it as an excuse to throw a mental one! Fell over last time so I find it easier to ride her.
 
Twice in the last 3years? I dont like it and neither does he. Sometimes i lunge the shetland before little un gets on her because she rides so infrequently.
 
My haffy & mums cob never, but my heinz twice a week under physio instructions. At the moment he isn't lunged as just ordering a Equiami, so as soon as that comes shall be back to lunging again twice a week :)
 
About once a week . . . in between flatwork and jumping in the school, hacking and long reining. Like to keep his work varied ;).

Never. Arion has had 3 cortisone injections over the last 4 years for mild arthritic changes to his hock - vets advise was not to lunge but to long line instead as lunging can place uneven stress on the joints.
 
I lunge merryn quite abit.

I NEVER Lunge Herbie. I could try but seeing as he just lies down and refuses to get up he wouldn't get much excersise would he ;) :p :D :D
 
About once a week. I find it useful to see how he's moving/looking. If I have time I try to vary it using raised pole etc. Also adds a bit a variety. My other horse who is currently on box rest, when I work gets lunged minimally as he fools about a bit and often ends up turfing up the surface or looking like he might injure himself (and he doesn't need any help doing that!!)
 
Never as I don't know how to do it properly. He is an older chap and I don't think it would do his joints any good in any case.
 
Very rarely usually but lanky tb struggles in our water logged school at present so when it's very dark in the morning and I can't wait for daylight to ride i'll lunge him at moment. The mare manages in the school so I ride her in there if too dark to go out and about.
