Hi all recently clipped my dark bay mare and was just wondering of any useful hints and tips of how to get her coat gleaming. I have been giving her a good groom daily but her coat is quite greasy.
Any suggestion?

I get a bucket of hot water and a bit of torn up towel. Dunk towel in water, wring out and then wipe/rub over coat. The towel picks up the grease etc and you can then dunk it in the water again and repeat until you have a sparkling horse! They don't get very wet doing this, so you can do it all winter

After I clipped Charlie I sponged him of with warm water that had a couple of drops of pig oil in (baby oil would work as well). The next day he looked like this

when i clip, i always put on a body and neck hood, which is tight and keeps the coat soft and shiny, and prevents any dust sitting on the coat, they are also ideal as an under layer for stable and turnout rugs..and i also add cooking oil to their feeds once a day(small amount).

hot wash off with hot water and brown vinegar! lifts the grease removes any clip oil residue and returns coat to proper Ph. make sure your rugs are clean! if you get a nice day a full shampoo, finishing with a vinegar rinse should do the trick. the best shiny coats come from within so a little oil in the feed as well! most horses are starting to grease up for winter, a natural thing to keep waterproof!

use a snuggy hoods hood - this worked a treat (and kept her clean) and I use the net-tex Lynn Russell sparkle spray for shows-its the same as the supreme one but cheaper and smells nicer too! my horses clipped coat is beige instead of lovely bay in the summer but at least she looks shiney - she has sensitive skin so even hibiscrub is not great on her but that spray is fine on her! some good tips here though!
