I got some hunter wellies for xmas, and was gutted yesterday to discover they've sprung a leak!!! ARGH.
I wear them everyday, but only for 1/2hour to throw the horse out in the morning and 1hour in the evening - which I don't think is excessive use!!
Should they have died so quickly? I am a little dissapointed, as they aren't exactly the cheapest wellies on the market, but then I keep thinking 'come on they've lasted 8 months!'
Opinions?
Someone suggested I write and ask for a free pair ... a little cheeky prehaps!

I would write to complain! They should last longer than that!! Especially when they haven't had excessive use. Do they not have a warranty?? :)

Hunter wellies seemed to have really gone downhill.

My old pair lasted me 8 years and were well used to their bitter end!

I got a new pair last year for my birthday, and within about 5 weeks of wearing them, they cracked down the side of the foot, right in the depths of winter too!.

Unfortunatly they do go quickly, I have stopped bothering to get them as the price just doesn't add up to how long they last.
No harm in writing a letter, but I wouldn't hold out alot of hope tbh.

Although they are ugly, I just love my muck boots. Lasting incredibly well and so lovely and warm in the winter!

I will not buy Hunters for that reason. I have just replaced my Chameau's after 8 years use.... I wear them everyday and worth their weight in gold. For some reason I am still keeping the ones which have perished on the ankle for summer use..... Don't ask!!!

Apparently they are not meant to be resistant to horse urine ..so if you've worn them to muck out, the company will not be willing to replace them or compensate you :(

I meant to add, always wash your wellies off after mucking out in them. I seem to do this automatically and I am sure it helps. The other thing with Hunters is when the sole wears they are LETHAL. I nearly broke my neck slipping up on a path.

Unfortunately another long trusted brand that has gone seriously downhill in recent years.

Won't touch them these days - too many friends had very bad experiences of both the product and the so called customer service.

Le Chameau are pricey but excellent and wear really well (speak from experience of these) at the other end of the scale I've also had a pair of £20 Toggi wellies that I've used for 3 full winters and they are going strong with no obvious signs of wear.

My mother has my Hunters, god they must be close to 15 years old now! I'd never buy the new ones, they just don't last.

I have a pair of cheapies that 'look' like Hunters and do the job perfectly!

hunters are utter garbage these days. had my originals for ten years until the soles wore out, new lot have lasted at best 6 months.... and i hasten to add i never mucked out in them!

all hunters come with a 12 month guarantee so send them back to where you got them and you will get a new pair. ive just had to do this myself. im expecting another 6 months then i'l probably need them replaced. again.

The company was taken over some time ago and the wellies are now "fashion" items, made in China. Another vote for muckboots, lovely and warm in winter as well.

Hunters are no longer scottish, they are chinese and are NOT the same boots.

Honestly they are neoprene lined like the le chameaux (sp?) and have proper comfortable foot bed and really good quality for a very low price! (no I don't work for them!) :D

I have had a few pairs of these and unfortunately they all split in the same spot on the sole after only a few months. I was gutted as they are the most comfortable boot i have ever tried on. If yours do any better can you please let me know - they may have changed the manufacture to sort it out!

I now have muckboots which are very comfortable and warm but feet get sweaty so still end up with wet socks, just not wet cold socks! Also the tread on them is useless, slid everywhere on them when new and nw im about to wear right through the sole after only 7 months!

Have not gone near them for 15 years, IMHO they are rubbish.

Got my chameaus 15 years ago and last winter they got a rip on the heel, like another poster though I cannot bare to part with them :)

Pay the extra and get some quality boots, the will owe you nothing in the end

I've had the same pair for many years now, used to wear all the time when I first got them and was working at a yard - obvs sole wore down to ice very quickly. Not quite sprung a leak yet, so they still get used to surf down to the field.....Though I will HAVE to get a new pair this winter so if anyone has any suggestions for alternative & not over priced replacement that would be grand.

The New chinese made Hunter "Original" is only a copy of the Hunter Boot we all knew and trusted:mad: I had loads of trouble with the New chinese boots and wrote hunter a very long letter telling them a few home truths they sent me a new pair of Hunter Balmoral Bamboo Carbon Boots that have been fine going on 2 Years:D.
The boots should have 12 months guarantee so provided they have not been worn to death hunter should honour this guarantee, also write to them I stated that people are voting with their feet and that if they didnt do something about the quality they wouldnt have their core wearer base when the short fickle fashion moved on for trendy coloured hunter wellingtons.

The problem today is everything is made poorly in china to maximise profits

My first ever pair of Hunters bought about 30 years ago lasted for about a decade! Now they won't even see me through six months, even the more expensive Hunter Classic didn't last long.

I buy Le Chameau and Ariat wellies now and have some Mudbuster wellies that are lasting well, muckboots were disastrous for me. :(

!

All good with mine so far, bought last oct but not had heavy use really, will let you know how they fair this winter

Hunters are shocking now. I had a pair that lasted about 5 years and finally the tread wore out last winter. Bought new ones in march, started perishing, both side straps came away and one started squeaking and letting in water. Took them back shop happily replaced them. In mean time I bought a cheapy pair to wear and wear my hunters only on very very wet days. Yet again, rubbers started perishing and one straps came off! Not impressed. I think I may ask for money back next time.

Ive always found hunters terrible, they let the cold in something awful and have absolutely no grip, which you really do need when jumping slippery stiles on a shoot day.

I love my dubarrys, 4 years old, worn every day to death and i still managed to stand in the horses stream yesterday for half an hour clearing some leaves, with no leaks.

Well I had my prevous pair of hunters for a good 6 years before I retired them (mainly because the lining had worn away so were rubbing my heels (actually still have them as an emergency spare) I bought another pair last september, and so far so good, worn for a good hour or so a day at the yard, and if its wet for dog walking too...

I'd definitely write to Hunter (do you have your original receipt?) they're normally really receptive to feedback about quality etc. I know in the past my friend made a complaint (was a fault with her pair) and they asked her to be a 'tester' of wellies, so she got sent pairs to wear every so often, and she'd send them back once the 'test' period was over - all for free!

A very delayed response to my original thread but ...

I did take the leaky hunters back - and was given replacements free of charge. Unfortunately these again last me around 6 months (maybe slightly more), but then it was over a year since orginial purchase so no further replacements were given! :(

I then bought some cheap £30 neoprene lined ones from ebay, lovely, but lasted 4 months!

Now back to leaky hunters and in desperate need for yet another replacement.
I do have wide calves - which I don't think helps.

Budget around £50 -> £100 max.

Any suggestions.

Thanks all.
