I gave it one last go today at jumping and i give up - after my fall earlier in year when horse flipped on me when jumping - i cant even jump the smallest ''x'' no matter how much i try - may just do ridden classess - i feel i have let my self down not pushing my self to do so

Don't beat yourself up about it, why jump if you get no pleasure from it? Just enjoy your horses and do some ridden classes, and if you feel brave enough in the future, have another go then

totally agree with the above post. Riding is supposed to be about fun so why puch yourself to do something you feel not one jot of pleasure doing? I don't jump becuase I am a wuss and I don't care!

Hun the same thing happen to me when I was 12 it was horrendus, I do jump now (12years on) but not like I use too at all. You will get there if you want to, if you don't then don't worry!!!

For what its worth - I dont jump

Well, not yet . I'm going to attempt suicide next year with my beast

For an ex-eventer, he's worked out all the tricks in the book and he's got my experianced friend off 3 times in 5 minutes, one after another. Then I've only ever jumped him 7 times , 3 of those I managed to stay on. The others I came off big time and he's left me while he's galloped off up over the horizon .

I think jumping is as jumping does. You let it come to you like you do a fence

If that makes sence

Don't worry about pushing yourself! It'll do more harm than good x

how about some fun rides with jumps..........this way there is no pressure to jump but you can if you want..........i find them great for both horse and rider confidence.
or have some jumping lessons on a different horse to build you own confidence.

Agree with everyone else - you want to enjoy your horse so why push yourself to do something you aren't enjoying? Give yourself a break for a bit and just do the stuff you like. You may even find that if you remove the pressure for a bit, you'll relax into it and want to start jumping again.

Just because we have horses doesn't mean we automatically want to do every discipline with them. I don't enjoy endurance or racing so I don't try to do it/watch it/read about it etc - it's the same principle

Agree there is no point doing anything if you don't get any pleasure from it your horses are there for your hobbie and to have fun on them. Try dressage

I used to jump 3ft on my coblet and then he started headshaking we solved that but i tried to jump a x pole on him the other day but bottled it

Don't tell anyone but I bring my daughter's shetland out with me when hacking my old girl as she can be a bit of a nappy monster when she is on her own. I call her my safety blanket!

I am exactly the same. Years ago I would have jumped anything but like you a bad fall which put paid to it. We have a mare that has done everything with our 2 children and is as genuine as the day is long. I know she looks after me and trust her implicitly but sometimes I just can't bring myself to do it. Another day I will jump a very small course of fences and the next day I can't. I have found that the worst thing to do is to build yourself to jumping. Take yesterday, took her xc schooling for a ODE on sunday with my daughter. Had myself all psyched up to 'having a go', jumped about 5 fences (tiny) then gave up. Rather than gaining confidence, I began to lose it a little more. Now decided to be a happy hacker!! Suppose there are worse things I could be?? Excuse the essay!! Just enjoy your horse!

If you don't want to and don't get any pleasure out of it - then don't, riding is your hobby and should be fun!

BUT, you may well find as time goes by that you really want to try again, that's what happended to me, with my instructor we started with trotting/canter poles and very very slowly built them up and I am comfortable with 2'6 at home, but much smaller at a comp.

Have fun and enjoy your horse whatever you do.

Ahh don't beat yourself up! You sound like me. My horse is an ex BSJA horse, but I am proper wimp. Find yourself a decent instructor that can help you. It's done me wonders. I know EXACTLY where your coming from a my girlie dishes too, so unfortunately it does limit what you will do well at. (sad but true). PM me if you want.x

Naah, jumping and getting the Cr=p kicked out of you is overrated in my opinion.Enjoy your riding the way you are happy and good luck. Mike

Do you really feel that way? Why? You gave it a go, it didn't work out, that's that.

Where does it say that everyone MUST jump?

You do just as much, or as little, as you want as long as YOU are happy

Horses don't know or care, if they are too good (who says anyway?) as 'just' a hack/hunter/whatever. They cost us too much to tie ourselves into knots with nerves, or guilt, they are an expensive hobby so enjoy doing what makes you happy.
