I got a shocking phone call yesterday morning from my sister to say our mare had been found dead in her stable. She'd been checked on at 10.30pm, and seemed fine. We think it might have been colic, but decided not to pay for a PM (£800 apparently).
She has a 3 week old foal at foot. I've been with him and my sister all night feeding him aintree milk out of a bottle. He seems ok, but we are just so worried about him and totally gutted at losing our beautiful pony who we had had for the past 10 years. She was just 15.
If anyone has any advice, or knows of a foster mare please help! This is our first foal, and no one on the yard breeds. We have contacted the national foaling bank, but they have nothing at the moment. They are very helpful and told us to just keep trying to find a mare. Do you think it is worth trying to find a foster mum? We are just in bits and trying to hold it together for the little chap. I put some pictures of them just after the birth in the PG last week, but here they are again for anyone who didn't see.
RIP Suzy. I loved you so much.
