hi all

im in the process moving to my yard/house :D

all very exciting- new post and rail fencing going in as we speak and indoor school being done next week! :p

im going to have a few part/full liveries and want to have a nice organised tack room and would be grateful of any tips of ways to keep it all neat.
all the yards i have been on have been very basic and cluttered and i want something a bit more organised!

any pics of your lovely neat tack rooms would be great! :)

More hooks and racks than you ever think you will need.

Shelves

Storage boxes and trunks (that fit under benches/on shelves)

More hooks and racks

We have overhead rug storage too, so they can dry and air, poles on a sort of pulley arrangement. It a) keeps them out of the way but easy to get to and b) lets them dry properly.

Sounds exciting! No pics I'm afraid but I'd definately recommend making sure you give people plenty of storage, big boxes, cupboards etc so at least any growing clutter can be shut away behind closed doors. Also perhaps put up two saddle racks and two bridle racks per horse to allow for all the extra lunging paraphanalia and such. Rug racks do also really help the place from looking like a tip in record time!

Who is the poster on here with the catalogued and boxed 'spare rug' ROOM? Unbelieveably pristine and organised, I am sure they will be able to help you get a plan in place! Can't remember the name though.... Anyone?

Certainly not me:)

Mine start out beautifully with all the rugs on shelves for each horse, fleece on top, then thermatex, then no fill, then 100, 200 and 300. After a few rug changes there are rugs everywhere:D

Seriously the shelves have about 50 regulation super dooper plastic see through storage boxes on them... Maybe someone could serach the thread out? It was about rug storage or how many rugs do you have, something like that. Looking on my phone would take an age...

This immediately came to my mind too, but I cna't for the life of me remember who it was who had such brilliant organisation!! :0

1 saddle rack per livery + 1 bridle hook, though its now 2 per livery as some have left saddle racks behind

Oh I totally remember this. I dream about my place being like that but I'm naturally untidy / lazy :o

Buy an outdoor box for your rugs. You can get them out of home base /b&q. The rugs on shelves sounds a nice neat idea but I a,ways find they end up dusty!

I remember the threat with the rug storage piccys too, it was so organised!

I haven't got a piccy of my tackroom as a whole but I find shallow plastic boxes with lids great. I have my travel boots/kit in them and they are also the perfect size for bandages -

Wooden chests are also great for saddle cloths -

I use a metal feed bin for storing all my spare rugs in. It's kept in my tackroom with a lock on it so if the tackroom is ever broken into I hope my rugs would be safe.

Oh yes 3Beasties I remember being 'well Jel' of your saddlecloth chest. I only own about 6, four of which have gone mouldy waiting to be washed :)

Is it just me who doesn't have a tack room? :(
I have to keep rugs/tack in stable so have a metal lockable locker for saddle and bridle and then hang rugs up/have a plastic storage box to keep them in.

I FEEL DEPRIVED! I WANT A TACK ROOM! :o

Noooo - those pics were definitely posted this winter at least - I have only been a member for about a year, maybe not even that.... I would say we are looking at a thread betwwen Sept - Dec... Come on hunters..

Have just posted link

Yay! You've found it. Well done Pip - it was Becca!

LOOK AT IT! LOOK AND BE AMAZED. ROLL up..... ROLL up!

My tack room is a shambles, we keep moving house so most stuff is in boxes :p saddles and leather stuff are on racks in the house, rugs in barn in boxes or hanging over internal walls. *hangs head in shame*

I'm a big fan of Really Useful Boxes.

They can be transparent or opaque, sturdy, stackable, come in all sorts of sizes and there are holes in the handle and lid that can be used to lock them.

Does anybody else use these?

Old filing cabinets are great for storing bits and pieces like boots, bandages, bits, stirrups, spare bits of bridle etc. They're lockable too which is a bonus with liveries around as anything valuable can be locked away which helps to avoid arguments. Rather than provide saddle racks i'd allocate people a space and suggest they get a tack locker .(they're a bit expensive to supply yourself!) for the same reason - as well as extra security, and it looks a lot tidier.

At our yard we're allocated a space and it's up to us how we store things. I have a filing cabinet, a tack locker, a garden storage box for rugs and a pallet's worth of space for feed which is in 3 dust bins. I couldn't cope with less space to be honest so I'd say give people plenty of space.

I would say keeping a tack room clean and tidy on a livery yard = nightmare.

Allocate everyone the same amount of space, and tell them to keep it clean and tidy. Ie one person does not get three saddle racks and ten bridle hooks, and then can keep all their rugs in the tack room, whislt everyone elses has to go elsewhere because hoggit has taken up all the space

This is more of a general tip for keeping tidy but can work really well.

Basically every time you go into the tack room tidy / put away 5 things.

If you do this every time it should be enough to keep it tidy.
