I sit/stay mine off the path as people don’t tend to like walking towards 5 dogs at heel, even if I’ve put them on leads I think people prefer me out the way. So they can walk past with their hysterical dog 😄. That’s not aimed at you btw!

Well, she is hysterical 🤣 the problem is the people who think it's the right thing to do but haven't trained it.

I was walking along a narrow path and saw two people and a small child so go off the path to give them plenty of room and put my three in sit.. then older man walked past , said nothing then the young woman (assume his daughter) stopped while the kid was looking in the bushes and then strolled past. Said nothing , no acknowledgement that I had given them the room to go past without getting close to the dogs… both adults giving the child a bad example .. I am old so maybe manners mean a bit more to my age group but a smile or a nod would have done 😡

Was asked by BILs brother the other day, who's never owned a dog before and has a toddler, if we knew how much a cane corso cost 😱
Sorry, not funny really, but...

I asked the young couple 2 doors down a couple of days ago how their Springer pup that was they got cheaply (🤔) on Facebook in the summer was doing.

At least they were honest. It was their first dog, no idea how much time a Springer puppy took up, it's easier to look after a toddler and 5 yo child, ya da ya da. It has been rehomed. They think they might need to get a different breed... ☹️

The next day, down at local country pub, skittles night. Stood out in the courtyard with 3 young farmer lads and girls with a couple of dogs. Large black lab bursts through door towing it's owner and doing a great impersonation of hound of Baskervilles, lunging at the dogs who were just minding their own business and well away from the entrance. I am pleased to say that 2 of the young farmers beat a retreat before me. Apparently the dog was attacked by a collie last week. Well, I was told the same thing 2 years ago. I actually think it's just not got a great temprement.

Toddled off inside for a gossip😁. One chap showed me a pic of his new Springer pup and video of the litter running on newspaper which I like, no slipping! Beautiful pup and his millionth. He shoots.

Other bloke from a farming family. 2 lurchers. Apparently one got attacked in one of his fields. His dog retaliated and he let it. He said he wouldn't stop it looking after itself. 👍. The other dog's owner told him to put his dog on a lead and I think was swiftly coached in Rights of Way!

I have been watching FB videos of a litter, and someone else who has got a new puppy, tear-arsing around on a slidy tiled floor. Dogs are/will be cared for beautifully so not necessarily irresponsible owners, and I know it means things stay cleaner, but it really does make me wince.

I just cannot comprehend how people come to these decisions.

You have a family with a young child. Surely, SURELY the first thing you do is figure out what breed would be the best family dog.

Christ. Plug it into Google.

How do people not put their child at the forefront of their mind when making such potentially lethal life decisions?

It’s a symptom of the same problem that leads people to buy Malis that they don’t have the time to work, cockers that they can’t be bothered to train, collies even though they live in the middle of the city, and so on.

Most people these days are choosing breeds based on appearance first and suitability second, if at all.

They think that going on some AI-generated ilovedogscom website that says Malis are known for their calm and gentle temperament means that they’ve researched their breed.

They're not even a good choice for non-first time dog owners.

I love mine, but it's rare that I'd recommend one to someone else.
Weirdly I got a call from someone today wanting a dog walker for there rottie and cane corso, I'm not normally warey of any dog but I did have to tell him I didn't think I had enough experience for a CC 🙁

Presumably you didn’t pay 20 thousand for yours ?

Not even close! 🤣

Protection dogs for celebs.

Ok, that makes sense.

That's fair. I have a dog walker 4x a week midday and have a Corso and a Lab. Out of the 2 the Corso is the easier one, IMO. Mainly because she's smarter and sharper to commands. The Lab is obedient and whatnot, but just has 2 brain cells that don't always connect. Not in a dangerous way, but in a way that annoys me at times 🤣

We had several "trial runs" and I made sure that the dog walker was comfortable with both dogs. It's gone well for almost 2 years now and she loves the the dogs, so we lucked out.

I love the breed, but I get why others don't and they're not for everyone.

Another park walk today for training reasons. A shih-tzu ran some distance to bark and lunge at the person in front of us, I think actually making contact with his ankle, then decided to try its luck doing the same with us. Thankfully for the owner this is one of the few locations where my dog is so thoroughly conditioned into obedience that apart from hackling up like a bottlebrush she otherwise didn't react to it. As we carried on, a shout from behind - it had yeeted itself in front of a cyclist. The owner did not react or speak at any point during the 60 seconds of chaos.

My theory is that they are just too embarrassed to admit their dog is
doing anything Wrong. On the other hand, maybe they just think it is behaving naturally and as all dogs should..

Never underestimate how twisted the logic of a dog owner can be. We had one come in for training - small dog who was barking and jumping at people when off-leash due to fear-aggression (and had bitten its owners before). Upon being told that she cannot be let off-leash for the foreseeable future because of said behaviour, owner replied “but if they stand their ground, she moves away eventually. And we tell them to ignore her.”

As if the onus is on passers-by to train the dog!

Ah yes 3 of us had that experience on thank goodness a wide bit of coast path. Off lead dog was aggressive with 2 friends in front of me who were told to keep walking and not look at it. So then it ran at me stopping about 1.5 metres away and barking. I duly stood rock still armed with a water bottle and stared at it. It shut up and then turned away. No apology from any of the 3 people with it and no point did they call the dog.

Sort of similar thing out hacking when we met a guy with 5 off lead labs
4 stayed with him, one ran up to us - 'It'll do her good to get kicked' said the guy
I thought at the time, it's not my horse's job to train your dog

This is why I drive to the middle of nowhere to walk my dogs during holiday periods. At this time of year my lane is full of people drinking coffee and letting cockapoos run around off leash. Won't see them again until next year.
The annual British christmas dog walk....they drive me nuts, I avoid them too
