I was also thankful that they didn't hunt down and kill my terriersadly/thankfully (?? As a realist I’m going to go with thankfully) it didn’t get back up and run off half maimed.

My theory is that they are just too embarrassed to admit their dog is
doing anything Wrong. On the other hand, maybe they just think it is behaving naturally and as all dogs should..
We had an idiot allow her dog to jump into our sheep field a few months ago. We have recently spent a fortune having stock fencing installed inside our drystone walls. Part of her defence, apparently was that 'there's a gap". I genuinely thought she meant in the wall but no, she meant that the dog had squeezed between the wall and a fence post to get into the grazing. She seemed to have missed the point that her dog shouldn't have even come over the wall! We have also planted bushes between the wall and the fence, so eventually the hawthorn/roses should put them off.Never underestimate how twisted the logic of a dog owner can be. We had one come in for training - small dog who was barking and jumping at people when off-leash due to fear-aggression (and had bitten its owners before). Upon being told that she cannot be let off-leash for the foreseeable future because of said behaviour, owner replied “but if they stand their ground, she moves away eventually. And we tell them to ignore her.”
As if the onus is on passers-by to train the dog!
I’ve been surprised by how many dog walkers comment whilst I’ve been training the latest with the mantra of ‘that’s what dogs do’ and/or ‘ah, but he’s just a baby!’.That reminds me of when my great uncle's neighbours were complaining about his lab going through their bins, he said " that's what dogs do!" (Read in a Welsh accent)
Around here the "it's because he/she's a rescue" is the excuse that get trotted out.I’ve been surprised by how many dog walkers comment whilst I’ve been training the latest with the mantra of ‘that’s what dogs do’ and/or ‘ah, but he’s just a baby!’.
Never had this before as prior to moving to this house we were further out and didn’t often see people on walks - and those we did were generally sane.
I'm finding it useful for steadying the young spaniel!! I have been told I should "let him have some fun" "he NEEDS to play with other dogs" "what you need is one of these " while waving a ball chucker at me and "do you never let him just run" ......mine does have fun - at the shoot!! 20 mins chasing a ball constantly is not a useful excersise at all - steadiness to thrown items and movement is though!Ball chucking amongst other dogs really gets .
It really is a thing on the beach here .
OMG Ycbm that’s appalling. There are people and then there are complete nobs!A hat trick today, in the space of a mile.
First the big labrador which came trotting towards me, so I did my usual thing, stood still and stared off into space. So she turned to my husband instead, jumped up and placed her two filthy front paws on his chest. He shoved her off and at least the owners were decently apologetic.
Then the border collie who dropped a stick at my feet while we were sat on a bench for a rest. When ignored, he picked the stick up and dropped it right under my hanging foot. Then when still ignored he barked, really sharply. I asked the owners to call him off. They laughed.
Then to crown things, the owners who allowed their dog to track my heels so close that I could feel it. Then got very defensive when I stood still and waited for them to fetch it. Then when I asked if I could explain, told me that I should stay indoors. When I pointed out it was a little unreasonable to suggest I should stay indoors so that their dog didn't need to be on a lead, they said I should be wearing a sign if I was partially sighted. (The second time this has been said to me, what planet do these entitled, obnoxious people come from!?) She was a little taken aback when I asked her if she would also like me to wear a yellow star. Which didn't stop her attacking me for "making myself a victim" and telling me that "God provides what we need" while making the namaste gesture.
There was an unusually high number of dogs out today, most of them no problem at all, but I hope it gets back to normal soon.
.
The reply to that is "Oh when is he being rescued?"Around here the "it's because he/she's a rescue" is the excuse that get trotted out.
I prefer ‘he’s young and he’s lovely at home; just a bit of a dick when we’re out’, which always evokes either a bemused or alarmed responses.Around here the "it's because he/she's a rescue" is the excuse that get trotted out.
I hope you tore a strip of her.Well, arranged to meet a couple of friends for a walk. One has a Lab bitch who mine has mingled with for years, the other no dog now. Fine, but others turned up, a friend's neighbour with a fluffy terrier that looked like a shitzu, perfectly amiable and then the woman from hell with a Lab I have complained about on here before and her neighbour's beddy whippet, no collar, just a slip lead so that when she let it off and it first attacked the fluffy terrier and then my dog, there was nothing to grab and strangle it with
I left and walked on my own after that. My chap is 11 now and that is the very first fight he has ever been involved in. I was shaken!!
I do think, after the first fight with the fluffy terrier, which was pretty full on, I would have expected it be put a lead and kept on it. It was for a few mins and then let off when it came and attacked my chap. Put on a lead again and then let off... I'm horrified
Just...why would you do that...
They do this at brean down with worrying frequency as there’s rabbits. There’s been signs for years still happensJust read a story about the Coastguard having to be called out to rescue a young dog which fell off a cliff during a walk, off the leash, of course. Just...why would you do that....
I couldn't get the link to work and it meant scrolling through the whole page of tripe and rubbish that gets posted on there!!!! You're not losing the plot! The golden retrievers? (I scrolled down) that’s awful, poor cat. I hope they find the culprit, imagine not knocking and telling them, it might have been possible to save it
Maisie06 has removed the link… in case I look mad with this reply.
There is 7 miles of beach there to walk, so you have no need to go anywhere near the cliff !!I realise for most who won’t know it it’s a spur into the Severn estuary with cliffs on 3 sides… the edges of which tend to curve down so the dogs don’t realise
New safety signs unveiled on Brean Down in bid to reduce dog deaths
Extra new warning signs have been unveiled at Brean Down by the National Trust urging dog owners to keep their pets on a lead while walking there.www.burnham-on-sea.com
I was at Filey Brigg a couple of years ago with Bandit. I don't know if your familiar with that part of the world, but there a bit where it narrows and there are handrails. This man came with 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks and they were flying around and jumping up at people, they were big dogs, I was absolutely terrified they were going to push me over the cliff. I'm not good with heights anyway and I had to go back but I couldn't let go of the rail and this poor man had to help me back and his son had to take Bandit for me. I went back and sat on a bench to wait for my brother and nephew when had gone ahead below the Brigg and these two dogs were jumping up at people who were so close to the edge. I was absolutely terrified I was going to see someone fall.Just read a story about the Coastguard having to be called out to rescue a young dog which fell off a cliff during a walk, off the leash, of course.
