Just to add that obviously mine are chipped and tattooed being rescue greyhounds - but the problem with ear tattoos is that they now just cut the dogs ears off before they dump them, so that the dog cannot be traced
It makes me sick to my stomach to think that people are prepared to do that just so they do not have to accept responsibility for a dog, even though they could just hand it over to a rescue centre for no charge/no questions asked
