Ginger ended the life of her field mate on Sunday by breaking his leg..

I really don't know what to do she has hurt so many people & she has complety taken the enjoyment out of owning a horse..
I have done all i can

Really just need a moan :o

Oh I am so sorry. I've seen some of your other posts and honestly don't have any advice, just wanted to say I'm sorry for all the stress and distress you've been through with her. Please remember that it's not her fault - she is Just reacting to something that is distressing her or causing her pain.

There's two ways to look at this. Either she isn't a danger, it was accidental & out of character. In which case sad as it is, these things happen. Or it was not suprising, she's always been aggressive. In which case she should only have been turned out alone, with company over a fence.
If she's hurt so many people I take it you've had professional help in investigating both the cause & either treatment if its physical or training if its mental?
I have to say though, if I was the other horses owner, & I found out after mine was pts the mare was a known danger to others, I would be baying for blood.

jessika, I'm so sorry for you, it must be a terrible feeling and I know you've tried really for her but honestly if your next post said "I've decided that for her own peace of mind, let alone mine and my family's I will pts" I would think that you were carrying on doing your best for her.

She's obviously not a happy pony, you've spent a lot of time and money trying to help her with little result. Now I think it's time to let her go and to perhaps find another pony who needs the sort of love you have given Ginger.

So sorry for you.

We have had every test imagineable on her via the vets and still no answers...
She has never kicked a human or animal before (although she as threatended) so we had no real reason to put her on her own..

you woulde need to read through my other threads to know her story but it is a long one

Very sorry to hear this, both you and the owner of the other horse must be feeling devestated.

I had my old mare pts a few years ago after she got badly kicked in the field and ended up with a severed tendon. She was out with two other quiet, retired mares that she had been out with for quite some time. It was horrible but sadly accidents do happen.

Jess, sorry you've posted on more than one occassion that the mare was not to be trusted with other horses. I simply can't imagine why she has not been turned out on her own.

Hopefully the owner won't come after you (or the YO) for compensation - I know I would.

has become so agressive towards other horses i fear for there safety
does not imply simply biting.

I'm sorry you're having so many problems with your mare but this was an avoidable accident. Good luck with the owners of the other horse, because if they're anything like me as a horse owner you're going to need it. I'm furious on their behalf.

I completly understand this is My fault i have asked the owner of the pony (who owns the yard) if she would like us to leave and she said no it is just one of those things...

I can't bring the pony back no matter how much i would love to

Actually jessika if the YO knew that you were having troubles with Ginger and she chose to turn her out pony out with yours then I really don't see that it is your fault.

I do think you need to seriously consider Ginger's future though.

That is an entirely fair point.

Why does the mare's future need to be considered though?

it's not necessarily something that's that easy to do on someone else's yard in practice.

Actually the first thing a competent YO will do is remove any horse from the field whom they deem a risk to others....

But as it's the YO's horse that has been destroyed, I suppose the point is moot.

Rest in peace poor pony. A horrible situation for anyone to be in.

I think your YO needs to take a serious look at how he/she has dealt with this and if they knew that Ginger was aggressive with other horses, then they need to shoulder the responsibility.

That of course won't make Jessika feel any less to blame, as any of us would in this situation. x

ETS I have just noticed it was the YO's pony. I'm sure they are feeling terrible, but my point above still stands.

I've distantly followed your story, and in the best interest if your horse who is clearly unhappy, she would be better off PTS. You know she can be dangerous, what if her next kick victim isn't a horse?

Shame about the other pony :(

I'm not sure what you mean, it doesn't need considering because she clearly needs shooting, or it doesn't need considering because this was "an accident"?

FWIW from the little I've read of the mare's story I wouldn't need to consider her future, I have her shot asap for her own benefit. However her owner may need to consider whether there is anything else she can do for the mare, including speaking to the YO about turning her out by herself.

Sorry, should have been clearer - I don't understand why her future needs considering because even though what has happened is tragic, it was avoidable - and certainly not something you'd put a horse down over.

OP I would take this thread down before the other owner gets wind of it, you don't want it to be used against you or your YO in an insurance claim.

Oops sorry didn't spot that - to be honest if it was the YO's pony and they knew what OP's pony was like they have only themselves to blame and should probably think themselves lucky it wasn't someone else's horse injured if OP's horse is that bad.

my pony was on the receiving end of a kick from an aggressive horse - he suffered terribly until I found him and he was PTS.

I would certainly not be so forgiving if I found out that the kicker was known to be aggressive to other horses - it is your horse and you have a responsibility to protect others from it. The YO was stupid to let it share a field, yes, but the ultimate responsibilty for your horse's welfare is with you.

It takes a good aim to break another horse's leg.
