Our first dressage after regionals was yesterday and I thought my aims were acheivable ;):
- stay on,
- soft and obedient
- no airs above the ground
I actually did manage all three ;).

Topaz had other ideas of what we should be aiming for:
- keep mud on some part of her,
- get a flying change in there somewhere,
- find something better to eat than the new balancer!
She also managed all three :D.

First up was E57, and I still think it is the hardest elementary and a horrid test! We don't like med canter on a circle and everything just seems to happen very quickly! Did a slightly shorter warm up for it thinking of my second test, and she felt brill really listening and very good in the contact, think we 'may' have sussed it :D. Could have done with slightly longer to get her totally connected, but she was on it for a lovely soft test, had a little launch to the right away from the flowers but settled beautifully. Rein-back was spot on which was nice, as it was towards the new bench which she'd been eye-balling so feel with our new mega contact ;) it's doing the job at keeping her attention, and by mega contact I mean I'm actually riding her up into one :D. She did face-plant the simple changes somewhat :o, so the on the fore-hand comment was very justified :o, but at least she was enthusiastic about it :D. Also we got the comment of head tilting in both leg-yeilds, her not me :D... This is something that has been mentioned before but I've not payed much attention to it :o, I'm assuming it's a lack of suppleness through the poll? Any idea's of how to combat anyone?

We managed an amazing personal best at this level with 69.11%, first in my section and beaten on collectives for second overall! Even bought her some polos to celebrate :D;):D.

Onto the second test, I had maybe a rush of blood to the head and made a rash descion, but decided enough novices and entered the medium , M61 so a very kind start to our Medium attempt. She came out to the second warm-up clearly very pleased with herself for her awesome elementary win, so very buzzy and excited, got her second aim for the day by putting a flying change in the extended canter we were practising :o, it was very expressive ;). She then was tired, bless her she had been very good so far and was really trying very hard! Into the test, now I am not a fan of sitting trot in general, but we had a moment trotting down to the start where we were in lovely harmony and it was just one of those times to hold onto, I wasn't bouncing and neither was she :). She was a little tired so a very obedient but slightly disconnected test, always a bit odd to have to really ride her forwards. Maybe the gallops the day before was a little much for her, but listening and lethargic is much better than wild and spooky!

Came away from out first proper medium debut with a fabby 66.03%, first in my section again :D and fourth out of 13 overall!!!!!!

Now I may have ignored a bit of advice and gone ahead anyway, but really I'm chuffed to bits with her and just knew it was the moment to try it for real, live for the moment right :D.

What a lovely report. Fantastic results.

My horse is also a serial overachiever at retaining mud. Shame it doesn't contribute to the marks!

what a lovely report and she looks very pleased with herself.. well done :-)

:D thanks, she was very pleased with herself, even more after the flying change moment :D, it's so much better when the horse feels like they are enjoying it too :).

Fabulous :) great results, well done.

I'm a fan of just having a go when it feels right :D

Life's too short and horses too fragile to wait forever, I'm not concerned about lousy scores :o. Plus I knew she wouldn't be upset by it, it's never the work which stresses her at comps but the environment ;). Glad it worked out well though, feel less silly for ignoring advice now :D.

Haha we still had mud on her ears and plaited into her mane :D, we think of it as good luck! Her socks and tail got washed though, so swings and round abouts :D.

Brilliant results, well done!!

My horse is a chronic head-tilter but he's steadily getting better. We did our first Novice a couple of weeks ago with almost no head-tilting at all (and a centre line in our Prelim with the comment 'Very straight', which I never thought we'd achieve!). However at the weekend we did a Novice at home for Dressage Anywhere and the tilt was back.

With mine, I've noticed that it comes back when he's not complete soft and through. If there is any tension anywhere along the 'line' from hind quarters to poll the head tilt returns. So I need to really get both hind quarters engaged - he's weaker with his right hind - the soft through the body. We can sometimes maintain it for a whole test but often lose it in the movements that he finds harder. So with Topaz I would guess she's not pushing through evenly with both hind legs in the leg yield?

Fab results! Well done!

:D Very pleased with the black beast :D

Interesting, thank you for that. She doesn't seem to do it at any other point but will make a note when I next school her (day off today) to work on her pushing through from behind in the leg yeild. It could be that I'm letting her drift about too much and need more purpose, will concentrate and have a play about, as I said I've not really taken note before :o.

Amazing results well done, I agree re: e57 such a poxy test I hate that one!

Thank you, we generally muddle about in the 60-65% range so feel we've turned a corner, hoping it lasts! Eugh everyone seems to hate E59 more but I don't mind it, E57 is just rubbish but as we have now scored our PB at this maybe she likes the challenge :D.

That's brilliant, great results and you sound so positive and happy from it, I'm another believer in just doing it if it feels right, it's all experience.

I try to always take a positive spin on things, but feel we're both really enjoying ourselves recently :). Absolutely, we actually did two mediums last year just training and qualified for the area festivals but felt it was too soon, so I knew roughly where we were but amazed at our scores :D.

Wow - great scores - show off :)

:D we are da bomb ;) :D everyone with their fancy pants warmbloods better watch out ;).

Great results, well done!
Sometimes the longer you stay in your comfort zone the harder and harder it becomes to leave it so it can be good to make the jump :)

Wow at those scores! Fantastic results well done! :)

:D so pleased with her, I knew she could score well but getting it all the fit into place on the day was proving tricky, hope we can keep it up!

Thanks, I agree it makes it more daunting to take the leap but I've always been a bit gungho about things :o, lots to work on and get her stronger and more supple but glad I did it :).

Well done brilliant scores I bet your glad you went for it:)

Very glad :D I do try and take advice that I'm given but on this occasion I'm glad I went with my instinct :).

I think you can see a little bit that she's tired with her droping behind the verticle, but her overall topline looks nice and soft still for the most part :), I however need to pop my stirrups back down :D.
