Well, my horsey weekend stuff is done and dusted already. Went to Somerford 80 acres for a XC lesson yesterday - we've got our 2nd 2* run coming up at Belsay and we missed our run at Llanymynech last weekend due to cancellation - so this felt well timed as prep! Ground was beautiful too. Focus was on making sure our skinny accuracy was in place and building a bit of confidence with fences in water. He's such a safe conveyance across country - he'll never be wildly bold and jump you into trouble, and my job is just to stay behind him and keep being positive!

Video here (sorry about the weird processing issue that has made it a bit jumpy) -

Unfortunately on the way home the lorry's power steering went pop - so managed to pull into a petrol garage and rang Equine Rescue Services. I have to say the service was brilliant - we had a mechanic and an equine pick up with us within 15 minutes of calling - lorry got towed off to my mechanic's place, and horse (and humans) shipped directly back to my yard.

Now desperately hoping lorry is back on the road in time for Belsay in two weeks time... and it is going to be an expensive fix :(

enjoyed watching that, thanks for sharing :) I do hope my baby horse will like jumping because I miss it!

Hope lorry gets sorted.

Milbry Hill in Sutton on the Forest is quite useful if you're up that way, but it's not very big. Ditto Robinsons (not *that* Robinsons, a small one run by BATA) in Malton. If you're feeling rich Beaver Horse Shop in Harrogate (by Harlow Carr) is very nice. For basics Thompsons in Murton (just off the York East ringroad roundabout) is handy, it's really just a feedstore but they sell hay and staw, basic tack, doggy bits too.

I am doing essentially sod all this weekend, pony has still not fully kicked the cough so we can't do anything much. Might go for a little potter out but that'll be it. And pick up some second hand saddles as part of the ongoing miserable saddle quest. Oh dear....I am very grumpy :-( The rain and wind don't help.

ownedbyaconnie, depending on where you're moving to if you ever want company for hacking drop me a message, I have a lovely steady cob and (it would seem) no one to ride with at the moment. We're just a bit up North of York. I am not normally such a miseryguts either!
Thank you! I have driven past Milbry Hill so that was on my list! And a hack would be lovely! I will also be north of York so that should work nicely.

I'm 120 in section C, and my friend is 68 in B.
Feel free to shout obscenities or anything else at me as I pass (assuming I get that far ?) I'll be totally oblivious anyway ?. I'm pretty sure you could throw rocks at me and I wouldn't notice

I'll look out for you RL. Although not sure yet what time we'll get there as we need to pick up yet another load of hay. ?

Well I am just home from Hospital, having been rushed in on Monday with suspected perforated appendix (really at my age) anyway whipped them out Monday night and home now. No driving for at least 2 weeks and no riding for at least 4-6 weeks. Absolutely bloody lovely. Dont even feel like a drink. Roll on summer:p

Sorry to hear this.

Middle daughter had hers out 7 weeks ago today and has just started mucking out etc this week.

I know she felt really rotten for a while afterwards and completely lost her appetite.

Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Well I’m getting my Covid stabbing so hope I don’t feel ropey for standing in the middle of a soggy field somewhere in Herefordshire/Worcestershire (aka Sapey).

I mean I love Eventing, but the novelty does wear off for unaff 90 ?

I had my first jab this morning too and also firmly hoping for no major side effects!

First ever side saddle lesson booked for Saturday afternoon, and unaff SJ on grass Sunday (if our RC decided to run, fingers crossed it stops raining!!)

Good luck to everyone out competing :)

I'm hacking out to meet a friend halfway and accompanying her on her youngster on Saturday (I'm working on the basis she is still going despite the weather ?). I'm either going to hack again Sunday on my own or I might school over some TREC obstacles. I've got a competition coming up fairly soon so probably should practise a course again and that we can actually come back from a canter in time for the obstacles ??

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Lesson with Alw tomorrow and hoping to play with the leg yield a bit more, possibly other stuff but also to leave the ground over some joined up jumps. I stupidly told my instructor that I don't want to stay in a 'tiddly jump comfort zone' (I mean tiddly too) and that either I want to progress with the jumping or not go there at all - eek :( :( Instructor is deffo up for that and thinks Alw is too but I feel a bit coy about being so blunt tbh. It was really a reaction to being terribly bored with the other horse's jumping habits and so wanting to stretch ourselves after a few years of essentially being a non/occasional jumper. Ho hum... Then hacking x 2 on Sunday. Having had a frustrating and exhausting week I am actually not really up for anything other than reading a book on the sofa but tomorrow is another day and hopefully my mojo will have returned then!! :) :)

Saturday is abandoned. I'm kind of relieved tbh, I didn't want a run on iffy ground really so I hoped it was going to go one way or the other. A.d I'm glad they've called it early

Ahh that’s good and you get your money back. Ideal especially as iffy ground if the horse isn’t 100% on the job is not a nice place to be!

Disappointing when you put the effort in and the weather scuppers your plans, but it's great when the decision is taken out of your hands!

Not surprisingly, but disappointing. What is the future for eventing ? Seems everything is against it at the minute.

Oh Asha, I think you're worryingly spot on there. It's such an expensive sport, both to competitors and hosts I think.
Our weather in the UK is undeniably changing - wetter all year round without much variation in temperature. Personally I'd happily lose the BE grassroots if there were some real decent unaffiliated options. I know there are a few but I'd love to see more. I go BE because of the infrastructure really - I know its going to be checked, the ground fit etc in my experience club stuff lacks that.
Personally I suspect somerford have called tomorrow in the hope with the weather being dry tomorrow they can run Sunday (which is fine). Competitors at 100 have to have met the MER etc- they aren't just Joe blogs who has booked the 90 having never done anything like this in their life with no clue about studs, appropriate pace for terrain etc. Its what I would do in their place

This felt good! Gave M a quick spin on lunge on friday and after a few minor plunges he went on to work well and was moving well.

Yesterday we warmed up in the arena to see how he felt (great) and then went for a wander, ears pricked all the way as usual :) love this pony!

Think we will be rained off today though!

Work has been super busy this week, trying to GCSE assessments marked and moderated so not done a huge amount.
The coblets new sharer started this week so that has helped and today we went out for a fun ride. Managed to be the first ones on the course so had the best of the ground, and was just loading up when the rain started. Lovely ride out and managed to pop over a few small fences.

Shambles has been doing really well, and feels pretty much back to his old self, so hoping we have found a management plan that works for him.
He went to his first competition in over two years with a mid week evening dressage organised by the local riding club. Warm up and test indoors so avoided the rain too. He warmed up really well but got quite tense once he saw the boards. Some lovely work, but also a few mistakes with scores ranging from 3.5 - 7.5. so came away with 64% in Ele43. So happy to be able to get out and about with him. Just needed to strengthen up the canter and he should be good to step up a level. Here he is looking pleased with himself afterwards

Obviously no plans for us now sick note is on box rest for at least the next 6-8wks. But honestly I’m just relieved that it’s hopefully not anything too catastrophic or career-ending ?? Frustrating, and bad timing. But could have been so much worse. Slightly sulky he’s not allowed out with his mates, but clearly not too bothered ?E9D5E99C-8F4E-457C-88EF-72C6AB33FB5E.jpeg

Bog went to dressage this week with his sharer. It was slightly hilarious as he went down the centre line with his head in her face to tell the world he was BACK out competing for the first time in 2 years ? little monkey.

Then I took him to a clinic at Hilltop which was great, I finally feel like I’m not going to bottle out of jumping 70cm and we confidently went round an up to height wide 80 course. Tammy was also super complimentary about how I ride him which was a nice boost because I always feel like he’s perfect and if anything goes wrong it’s my fault!

No pics so just an old one because he’s such a beaut?

We are on the wait list for Ascott under Wychwood, fingers crossed...

Oh and Bears left canter lead is back!! Which is great. He’s spent the weekend long reining and doing in hand poles. Hoping for positive news from vet check in 10 days.

I braved the weather to finally get to my first proper BD competition at the heady heights of prelim!

Horse was a pain to load, lovely in the warm up, then horrible in the test. Every single time we went past the mirrors (2 sets of) he wanted to admire himself and ended up very backwards. However, managed him well enough to be second in the section, so whilst slightly disappointed with 65%, pleased to have done it. He was then super well behaved waiting around for his buddy to do his test.

He says hello! IMG-20210522-WA0005.jpg
