Ok, I realise this may sound slightly crazy but I've always wanted a Julip model ever since I was wee but was never allowed because it was too expensive. Well, I had a spontaneous "bug*er it" moment yesterday and ordered a set for my 5 year old daughter. I'm so excited about it! I reeeeaaaally hope I'm not disappointed. Had to share this because I'm sure I'm not the only one!

Aww 'Julip' was my obsession when I was young too...luckily for me, there was a tack shop near us which sold second hand ones...so I eventually managed to accquire a few...actually...I still have them...:D lol....I also loved 'dream' ponies too...remember them?? Only ever had one of them...
So good on you, after all what are kids for other than for us to do all the things with them we weren't allowed to??! :D:D:D

You're not the only one... I am seriously old and don't even have kids to use as an excuse... I always coveted one as a child but never got one due to the price. I am now considering just buying one... For myself... Because I can :) mad? Me? Maybe :)

Get on Amazon! There's loads on there.....

or do what I do and "tidy up" your daughters! :o

tidying up sometimes includes them needing grooming, tacking up and trotting over toilet roll "cross country" tubes! :D

:D:D:D

I had it as a kid, loads of it and sold it onto one of the parents at the yard I used to help at - hope her daughter got as much fun out of it as I did!

LOL....My favourite was 'Magpie Models' more than Julip, but I think they went bust.

Many happy hours spent playing as a kid in my very own yard! :)

My three julips are staring at me right now. I gave all the accessories away to my little cousin but Beauty, Jigsaw and Ted stayed right with me :P

I still love model horses and I don't have kids as an excuse either! I like the Schleich ones as they are so realistic. Apart from the 'shire'which is definitely a clydie! Never had a Julip though-I remember lots of competitions in Horse &Pony but I never won.

Me too :D I had green carpet in my bedroom, chosen to be the 'grass'

I loved Magpie Models too as they had so much more variety

A load of mine mysteriously disappeared when we moved, haven't seen them since. Still got my favourite ones though, the tack and rider, and the stables my Grandad made for them.

Did anyone have Magpies and Julips? Are they around the same size? I liked the look of the Magpie ones but never got round to ordering any.

Ooh FubsyMog, I've got some of the Schleich ones too, they are lovely. They also do a Fjord. :)

When I moved out last month I found mine!! I used to play with them for hours and hours... My dad built me a stable block as the one Julip sold was so expensive!

Apparently Magpie models got bought out and then they restarted production, but ive just googled them and the website states its under construction.

I like them more than Julip, as a lot of the julep ones had funny bendy legs!! I also loved that you could order welsh, arab or hunter types in any colour you like.

Id love to buy some again if I could!

I had both, Magpie hunters were about the same size as Julips IIRC. My julips were the old slightly rough looking ones though, before they became more realistic. They all fitted in the same stables, put it that way :D

Oh goodness I forgot about the magpie ones. Weren't they the models that people used to painstakingly modify and make look as realistic as possible?

I really hope postman comes tomorrow when my daughter is at school!

ooooh! I never had any Julip models but I inherited my sisters' model horses, no idea of the make, but they were like an airfix kit from the 60s.... VERY realistic and just fitted Skipper dolls (the bendy kind) perfectly. There were 6 of them - all had names but I can only remember Blackmail, Easter and Tango now.. 40 years on.

My daughter has a very large (and growing) collection of Schleich horses/ponies/donkeys with riders/horse trailers etc etc. Building up a collection for her every christmas and birthday. We also bought her an amazing stable block for christmas which was a great buy from amazon. They are played with everyday. Worth every penny!

I had the most amazing julip set when I was younger, it was my dream yard. Stables, post and rail fencing, a school, jumping paddock, landrover and trailer and the most incredible horsebox (made by a friend) that had a rug rack, tack trunk etc.

Can't remember how many horses I had but they all had home made personalised rugs with matching boots and saddle cloths (maybe that's where my obsession for matchy-ness comes from?!)

I advertised it in the local paper when I had 'out grown' it and could have sold it 30 times over. It sold to the first person who rang, they bought it unseen. Think I got about £125 for it which at the time seemed like millions to me but now I realise how stupid I was to sell it.

Ahh well, the memories will be with me for ever.
