Jumping - pics

I hack in my snowboots- but knowing the risk and you would never find me jumping in them I'm too scared for that!

they are toggy canyon boots and i wasnt rude to anyone and iactually said thanks for noticing his condition. its opinions on the boots...end of i choose to ride in them noones going to change my mind i rode in them tonight and jumped and he was perfect!!!

i have fell of him while riding in these boots nothing got caught, and with or without boots that support you you should have a secure lower leg with out the aid of boots if your that good :)

i am not saying i am but i think for the tone everyone is taking then you should be able to ride in any type of footwear and be balanced and have secure lower leg if your a good enough rider.

also for girlracer i think who asked i mainly hack him but hes been jumped twice this week as have a show next weekend to concentrake on hes ussually lunged once or twice schooled once but also schooled on hacks and jumped once a week.

hes very willing and ussually very well behaved but does have a quirky side!

i posted innocently today and just for a little laugh thought you lot might want to laugh at my terrible position!!!

also i had to learn very early on with him because we were both learning i had to learn to let my reins sile in the air just befre landind so i didnt sock him in the outh on landing because hes still learning and going on long ones or short ones etc. like tonight he went one 2 long ones and because iv learn to let my reins slide to the buckle he didnt see the jump as a bad experience bcause i didnt hurt him.....

no im not a brilliant ride and no my horse isnt the best nor will he ever be but hes perfect for me and im considerate to him so in my eyes hes perfect and is the best! i have only been riding 3 years in august give me a break! :)

That's a bit like saying "I fell off when I wasn't wearing a hat and I didn't crack my skull open." Just because it hasn't happened, doesn't mean that it can't.

Why do you think you never see Carl Hester, or Tim Stockdale or William Fox Pitt ride in country boots/wellies?
The argument that if your leg is secure enough then you can ride in what you want is puerile.
You say yourself you're not particularly experienced so why would you NOT ride in the kit that makes you as effective a rider as possible? It makes no sense.

Ok ok ok so it might nt be safe.......BUT its what i feel comfortable in. I ride in my jods n leather chaps to a few times a week. I ride in allsorts depends what i have on after wrk depends ehat i weaf on my feet.

Nope not the most experienced but i dnt hurt my horse with the footwear i have on so i think its fine. Im no professional and dnt plan on being so im happy just hacking about occassinally jumping and schooling amd going to shows.

Luckily you didn't fall off and your foot didn't slip through the stirrup because trainers don't have heels and luckily you didn't get dragged.
There are REASONS people comment on the gear people ride in.

Before you get snotty, I never said it was a good idea, or that I'd do it now. I was simply sharing the stupid things we used to do (a long time ago!) whilst on the subject of footwear. And I also never disagreed with you about the op's choice of footwear so don't be so quick to jump down people's throats.

Oh don't be so ridiculously touchy! You sound like a petulant child. I didn't MEAN IT as a personal criticism; I happen to know someone who was injured very badly in this way.
EVERYONE has at one point or another done something stupid/irresponsible in their lives and I am no exception. I'm sure you will (as will I) do something stupid and or irresponsible in the future as well, but if you expect no one to comment, EVER, then you'll spend a lot of time nursing your pride and too little time correcting your mistakes which is the whole point of experience.
And THAT was a general comment as well.

Are you even reading what you say? It still doesn't make sense, but you know, whatever, your horse is healthy, you enjoy him, do whatever you like. It's not like riding more efficiently can be beneficial at all to him.

Can't quote as I'm on my phone. Apologies, I took it personally. Wouldn't do it these days- I'd never fasten my spurs to my trainers lol ;)

Those boots! I used to love riding in them.. That is until I got bronced off.. And as they have no support, I broke the bottom of my tibia! All thanks to those boots!
People aren't criticising they are trying to help, when you fall those boots do nothing! I've learnt that!

I find it odd that you find this funny. It does worry me when horses are aloud to throw themselves over fences with an unbalanced rider on board. OP have you ever missed a stride and gotten thrown forwards, unbalancing the horse and you both ending up in a heap on the floor?...It's not nice and you soon learn and throwing yourselves over fences isn't actually that funny at all not to mention destructive to any previous correct schooling... sorry if i sound completely up my own jacksie but thats just my opinion..

I am not unbalanced and i dont get thrown forward. I have learnt how to ride my horse when we take a dodgy stride so we dont end up injured and on the floor. Dnt question my ability to ride my own horse i know how to handl a sticky stride...

OP might I suggest that if you want people to just have a laugh at your pictures that you put them in tack room or picture gallery? I think posts in here are for more likely to end up with CC.

Thanks i will in future i didnt even mean any of this silly arguing. I thought of this one because i ussualky get post with helpfull cc that those helpfull people would like to see a few mistakes and that my lil lad albeit it stroppy is genuine. But i will no longer post nonserious threads in here. Althoughi have seen many doing silly thinhs in here n nt get the stick i have for some boots. And then someone to pick apart my riding. I wont stand fir somone when i havent askedabout my riding to pick it aa

I'm sorry, but posts like this are, I think, why you're getting advice. Riding is a dangerous sport, jumping especially, and only an idiot thinks they can always handle it when it goes wrong and not end up on the floor. If you encourage your horse to throw himself over fences, take strides out, you increase the risk of him taking a stride out at a fixed fence (or even an sj), not quite making it and having a rotational or other dramatic fall, where you will have no say in where you end up. People are commenting because you seem oblivious to the risks you're taking.

The same as with the boots - they increase the risk of injury, and they interfere with the communication you have with your horse via your legs. Fine if you don't care on either score, but you have to be aware of the issue to disregard it

I didnt say i can always handle a dodgy stride hence the falling off. But i am nt unbalanced and can hNdle the mAjority of things. Also im now aware tht the boots could be dangerous. And might hinder my leg aids but i cnt afford to ruin my good boots. Also i never but him on a long stride i try and teach him the corect one. Why on earth would i want himto go on dodgy strides hence why i have lessons as well.

OP - horse looks in good condition and very genuine :) I personally wouldn't ride in those boots simply because they aren't very supportive...but that's me and my opinion, but you can do what you like, obviously, although it is good people on here did alert you to their lack of safety in case you were unaware (although they may have done it a bit brash and rude for my liking....but you were informed none the less!) :)

But as for this thread in general...wow......it is verging on Tack Room (or soap box as it used to be called didn't it?) or even those youtube comment arguments that always end up dragging Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber into things  :p some people are so silly

You won't ruin your good boots riding in them - I'm a poor creature therefore only have one pair of boots and gaiters for riding - which goes for hacking / lessons / competing.... I just wear my country boots till I'm about to hop on, get changed, then when horse is in stable change back into other boots. :)

OP I don't think "screaming" when your horse takes a stride out / misjudges a fence either is a good reaction. If he can be sharp/silly/ stroppy anyway having something scream on his back may cause him to spook and cause either himself or you an injury

Like screaming?...is that how to handle a sticky stride?...

I'm not questioning your ability to ride, I can see it from the photos I don't need to question it.
Even professionals jumping (esp. babies) at home can have horse peck on landing and go down I'm just saying that throwing him at fences is only going to exacerbate the chances of it happening.

Unfortunately when you post something like this that you personally might think to be funny, others won't take it the same way, that's the joys of personal opinion

I too posted a video on here which to me, I found funny, whereas I did get quite a bit of stick (it was just my horse lunging so no riding stick) but obviously no one has the same sense of humour. Some found it funny, others didn't.

A video or pictures are only a snapshot of that moment in time so things can be taken the wrong way or mis understood.

I think its the way you handle the responses that counts, if you had just ignored the CC then maybe you wouldn't have got much more, but if you bite, they will just keep throwing the bait :D

I think asking for no CC is only encouraging more. If you're happy (even in those boots :p) and your horse is and you're both enjoying yourselves then just rise above it as you have the whole picture, not just the snapshot.

Just a few words of wisdom from what I have learnt, even if the pictures are perfect, someone will always find something :D:rolleyes:

ok this post is to everyone!

thanks so much fr all the comments really. i respect that my boots might not be the safest and i ride in them at my own risk. if it werent for you posters i wouldnt have known how unsafe the could be.... still ill proberly ride in them still, or i may not ....

and a big massive thanks to all those that commented on his condition that means SOOO much to me because i havne always struggled with his weight.

Also just wanted to add im sorry for biting the bait so to speak (above poster) but i have always had to defend my riding ability to everyone so it was just habit to defend my riding here. because i havnt been riding long and jumped in and bought a racehorse after 5r months of loaning and lessons people always said i was silly. so always had to defend myself.....

although i know it was very silly to get a racehorse after 5 months of riding and i didnt even know what an outline was or a half halt..... we have both come so far and i have learn a hell of a lot!

BUT no really thankss (and this isnt being snotty) i mean it for most of the posts. and if i sounded snotty or immature in any of my responces sorry it was just because i have always defended myself!

OP - I just want to say I think you've taken it on the chin like a trooper. Not many will admit to their faults and also apologise
