Well after the complete high of taking Harry XC at Richmond last weekend, it was quickly followed up by a fab flatwork lesson, and a brilliant SJ session. So with a SJ competiton pencilled in, and a couple of ODE's in the pipeline everything was going so well
. Until yesterday. Took Harry out for a hack, and then went to have a play in my XC paddock, he had one of his 'moments' he can be prone to, which normally cause no problems, but for some reason as he reared up his poll hit my right cheek, somehow smashing my buckle from my HS1 into my chin. I managed to stick on long enough to do an ungainly slither to the ground where all I could see was alot of blood
. Bleeding profusely with a very sore cheek/ear it was off to A&E I went. Luckily I was seen quickly as I was bleeding everywhere and was blatantly in quite alot of pain
. Chin cleaned and well morphiened up, into x-ray I went, where I had lots of pictures taken from all different angles, and then went into a special x-ray machine where it moves around your head, I guess to give an all round picture. At this point chin started bleeding again all over said posh x-ray machine
!!!!! Deciding they had to do something with my chin they glued it whilst I was waiting for the x-ray results.
Eventually in comes a surgeon telling me I had broken my jaw (near my ear) and it had displaced my lower jaw. So off to the ward (with more morphiene!) to await some surgery to put some screws into my upper and lower jaw bones, and then put tight elastic bands on to try align my jaw
. So eventually (read that as the middle of the night) off I went to theater. After vaguely coming round in excruciating pain (more painkillers!) I made it back to the ward at 2am this morning. Where the 2 old people were both snoring so loudly it made sleep impossible, and then another patient arrived in the bed opposite me about 1 hour after I got back to the ward. Needless to say I didn't get a wink of sleep
.
Surgeon had another look at me this morning and decided the elastic bands (look just like plaiting bands!!!!) weren't strong enough to do the job, so I had to have then swapped over to stronger ones which was not comfortable!!!!! Allowed home just after lunch thank god as I think I would have howled if I had had to stay another night
!
So now I can't eat any solid food for 6 weeks, which serverly limits what I am going to be able to eat (the only soup I like is Heinz tomato, I hate mash potato, and ATM can't open my mouth enouth to eat a yoghurt!). I also have to make sure I force my mouth into it's proper bite position as my lower jaw wants to go to the right (screws and bands are helping, but I have to keep making sure I have my mouth in the correct position!). And have enough painkillers to knock out an elephant (hence I apologise if this makes no sense)!!!!! Plus I cannot speak properly due to my mouth being just about clamped together (some may see this as an advantage I suppose
!!)
So I now have to go back to the hospital on Tuesday to have a CT scan to see if the screws and bands are holding. If they aren't holding I will have to go back on Thursday to get the whole right side of my jaw plated
!!!! Fingers crossed it won't come to that as I am already banned for riding for a minimum of 6 weeks
(looks like no more eventing for me, and means I will miss my regional final
) I am also due to start my Uni degree a week on Monday, so am certainly going to look like the special needs kid (although you can't see the screws, they are quite big so you can see the bulges, plus my mouth is shut with elastic bands!!!), and if I need it plating will probs miss the beginning of my course
.
So any Ideas what to do with my horses??? Murphy is advertised (although not alot of interest) but now I can't speak down the phone, so Mother willl have to field calls, and I can't show him off, if anybody wants to see him. Harry needs to be kept going so thinking I may have to send them to other riders until I am back in action.
Also any food ideas would be appreciated. I can't be too sugary as I cannot brush my teeth
, and just have to mouthwash with some hideous stuff from the hospital 4 times a day. At the moment I can only drink things, but hoping soon I will beable to have mashed things
!!!
So feeling somewhat sorry for myself I only have tomato soup, painkillers, and mouthwash on affer if you have made it this far
!
