unfortunately they wouldn't appeal to this sort of person-they need a horse to elevate themselves and also for something to blame for their own shortcomings.

And then that horse broke it's leg at Hickstead last year and had to be put down.

On his Facebook page. Here is what he said:
"It has been an absolutely surreal weekend for me at Spruce Meadows. Winning the Queen Elizabeth II Cup as my first five-star Grand Prix victory is something I will never forget! I want to thank everyone who reached out with congratulatory calls, texts, and messages. Those who know me, know I never forget where I came from, so I am grateful to everyone who helped me get to this point.
Some great horse and rider combinations won both the QE II and the Spruce Meadows Derby in the same weekend, and Carrollo and I gave it a try, but it was not to be. Carollo had never jumped those kind of fences before, and in hindsight I should have pulled him up when I felt some anxiousness from him, but I always try to complete the course both to give a horse experience and as a sportsman. Carollo jumped on as the fighter he is. There’s no doubting that after his big win on Saturday! I apologize to the owners and previous owners of Carollo for making an entry mistake.
As a precaution, I had Carollo fully examined by a vet, and all is well. He’ll get a well deserved rest now until his next competition, and I’m looking forward to what he can accomplish next! Thank you to my owners and team for making all of this possible. Photo credit @jcmarkun ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ‘"

The horse broke its leg cantering on the flat right in front of us, didn’t land awkwardly or anything, so don’t think he can be blamed for that. This is a different kettle of fish & is just too awful

There are reports that they were having trouble keeping the horse sound on that leg, even while at the show :/

And just to add, you all may or may not have seen this brouhaha in March but the NoelleFloyd website put up one of it's typical "What's in your Ring Bag?" article's about Andy and the center picture caused a huge controversy about the bit on the horse. In one of his other articles (below) it mentions that his grandmother was a custom bit maker and that he is constantly changing bits around.

The thing about these sudden broken legs is that they don't happen without underlying damage (a hairline fracture). It tends to be a sign of overtraining. That may be done unwittingly. There's been a lot of research done recently that shows that this is what's behind 'bad step' injuries.

Slight side track but related....
I don't know if you all have this over there, it's newer technology here, but at the University Vet Hospital that I work at we have a standing robotic CT machine that allows for the whole body to be scanned while only sedated, not fully knocked out. The cool part is that it does the scanning in motion so you get full 3D spectrum imaging.
This has been really useful at finding the small niggling problems before they break down.
We've seen some SERIOUSLY cool images.

MP means usually when new expensive diagnostics come out insurance premiums have to go up to potentially cover them.

Odd. We wouldn't expect as a country to pay for the few horses that have this procedure done, across all policies.
I mean there are only I think 5-7 places that have one of these devices, in the whole country. And there are how many millions of insured horses?
I would expect my premium to rise if I had a scan done and something was found, but not just because new technology existed.

maybe it's because of the proximity of referral vet practices for most horse owners. In a small country that has quite a lot of vet schools and big specialist practices it's reasonably easy to access diagnostics that the local practice may not have available.
My insurers send a letter every year when the premiums go up, explaining that it's because of the massive increase of availability and update of pretty expensive diagnostics.

The picture with all that garbage in the horse’s mouth just makes me wince. I mean, I know it depends on the riders hands and how they use, but tthat just looks like a torture device.

Oh I am sorry!!! Horse Show Divas is pretty cringe worthy and the Eye Candy folks... well.... they're 'speshul' as we are wont to say over here.
I will admit the sex addiction part of his back story (on Horse Show Diva) was eye opening (and shutting pretty quickly too)

If this is clear round, I can't see much of a problem? Most showjumpers would expect to enter two classes a day, and hopefully do two jump offs, so 4 rounds doesn't seem too bad.
This poor horse was exhausted and over faced, clearly the rider was in the wrong and it was sickening to watch.

I would have thought most people jump at least the equivalent of that in a show jumping clinic, probably over a shorter time period?

Honestly no idea. The sad truth is that speaking for myself and given my goals, in a way Andy gave me hope that I could get up the levels a bit since he's there and he's competing. Kind of a worst case scenario that gives us wanna be's some hope.
Before this I only knew of him as the rider that competes at GP, but I am not sure how. Once I started delving into his background, after the Spruce fiasco, I found a ton of confusion and some sketchy stuff. Someone mentioned he was called out for blood letting a few years ago. I have no idea what that's about. I didn't know he got his groom pregnant while married, or that indeed another girl suggested the she too was impregnated by him but had an abortion. It's the A circuit and honestly around here the stuff from "Riders" would be tame and welcome compared to some of the modern day true stories. I have no clue what's real except that his videos are often hard to watch.

It's not clear round. It's unaffiliated competitive SJ up to 100cm classes - full up courses with 12-14 jumping efforts at speed. I don't think encouraging kids to enter more rounds than they would otherwise choose to enter is responsible at all.

😂. Tbf, robots aren't that expensive, it is the CT technology that will cost the big bucks, but I guess for a surgery that is looking to renew their CT equipment anyway then .....ah who am I kidding, the insurance companies will whack up premiums just because things look new and shiny.
Really feel for the poor horse, and all his horses frankly
. The stewards do need to get better at pulling people up when it is as blatant as that, I know it can often fly by quickly in a showjumping round, but displays like this are awful for all horse sport. Maybe there should be a maximum number of poles in a round before someone is eliminated?
