I really hope he pulls through for you. You've had an awful run of incredibly bad luck with horses who always sound like they get incredibly dedicated care.
So sorry to read all this Michen.
By the sounds of it you've spent enough on Boggle & Atlas that could have bought you a house, you are forever seeking the best care for them regardless of cost. Nobody can question your dedication to your animals.
I hope you get some answers soon and should the outcome not be what you are wishing for I hope you can take comfort from knowing you have done far more than many others could (or would!) have done. Take care X
Why bring work and sales targets into it? We all know your driven and that's great.
And actually I think I was right to raise concerns over travelling him on the basis he's now in the vets.
Be as rude as you like it's a forum full of opinion and your upset and stressed and I get that too. But I'm not going to sugar coat things. And like everyone else can post my thoughts.
Weather any one agrees or not that's their choice.
Ultimately the horses well being and getting better , and you are the important things.
Any person that can throw ideas around isn't a bad thing you've had 2 horses drastically ill with few answers in a short space of time, somewhere out there, there has to be an answer who cares how it's found. As you've just said it's a guessing game.
I hope atlas tomorrow is showing more signs of improvement.

That sounds utterly horrific- goodness. I'm so sorry! Losing that many animals in a short space of time is horrific. You are a tough cookie to have negotiated all that and not lose your nerve completely. I feel you on the last shred of nerve thing. And sometimes it's not even the big thing that tips you over the edge.Oh Michen, I so feel your pain with the sick animals on top of the logistical and emotional turmoil of moving. While in the midst of an extremely stressful house sale/purchase/move end of last year and beginning of this year we lost two dogs in the space of a week (one expected, one very much not), one of the rescue cats became suddenly very sick and had to be pts, Pebbles pony picked up a nasty cough and then the day before moving day Hetty was on three legs with an abscess that I had to try and clean and wrap in a bog of a field because stables were already cleared and inaccessible by that point.
Between that and a buying chain from hell, I was on my last shred of nerve and was an emotional wreck.
Your vets always sound absolutely top notch, so will keep everything crossed they can work some magic in the next couple of days and your cheery ginger fella can join you in CA x
I think it’s time to give it a rest.
I know Michen personally, she’s one of my best friends and I’ve known her through all the good and bad times she’s had with her horses, way before she became a presence on this forum. She is the most driven and dedicated person I know and she would never compromise her horses’ welfare for the sake of her job or a move or anything else.
She has always been incredibly open to considering all options, researching all the health conditions (honestly pretty sure she’s halfway to a vet degree now) etc etc. She’s asked people not to keep on speculating as it isn’t helping at the minute and he is receiving top quality care.
I think it is time to respect that. Everyone has a limit and the sheer accumulative stress she’s been under for the last god knows how long is enough to break anyone else.
@Michen tell me to STFU and delete this if you want, I don’t want to make you feel worse.
I don't care about the rudeness and tbh I didn't see it as that she was being frank, I have no issue with that. On any forum you have to accept people will have opinions if you don't like some don't post.Tbh you deserve the rudeness... You can be driven with your career and dedicated to your animals at the same time. Nobody could ever accuse Michen of being anything other than 100% committed to any animal in her care.
It's ok. It's totally ok to be over whelmed, one day your read your own post and and see the light in it.That sounds utterly horrific- goodness. I'm so sorry! I completely cracked yesterday, I'd rented a car to get to the barn as realised I left the truck keys in california (with my OH who was flying in later than me). I then lost said rental car keys in amongst the craziness of yesterday. So right now, my OH is dealing with the tow truck to return the rental car to Denver airport. That sounds like such a small stupid thing to be upset about but it was the final straw. I needed a sit on the floor with my hands in my face moment for a good 5 minutes.
Sounds pretty valid to me - during my horror move I cried over cleaning a skirting board. Started cleaning it, got overwhelmed by how much skirting board there was, had a cry. That sounds utterly horrific- goodness. I'm so sorry! Im not mad keen on how much the price tag gets thrown around on this if I'm honest. Horses cost money we all know that. That's also why there is insurance.
(Works different in other countries I know)
But as I said way back, if the horses are having such an impact that it becomes a choice between the next big deal and the horse you love where's the line? If faced with having having to travel a lame horse for seven hours is a suck it up moment is that really ok? No personally I don't think it is.
M has had a fairly trauma filled few years she's under a massive load with work, and then keep moving, add in a partner dog etc, perhaps as I've said given the chance passing the reins to someone else (where viable and it's not a suggestion of passing on a problem atall) is the wise choice and there's no shame in it imo. Atlas ending up more poorly no one I expect thought was likely.

That’s a reasonably positive update. Everything crossed he continues in the right direction. I keep checking the thread.Hey thank you all I am reading and re reading your posts and I really do appreciate it even if I’m not directly replying to every one, know that I am very grateful.
I will update you for sure. I haven’t had a latest on his temp etc but his urine sample was good, no more protein leaking into it and the “casts” are much reduced. So that’s something.
He is tolerating his ice boots (unlike Bog who spent the entire time trying to remove his!) which are on all four feet so we really are being aggressive to try and prevent lami.
We will see which way he goes.
