Loose horse in field with saddle attached(friends)

[ QUOTE ]
He was in the school bu we have aoutdoor and she has 2 other horses and a daughter to consider,he just jumps everything .He needs to go to someone who can bring out his full potential he is bold and fearless and very clever. She did join up with her youngster but as he is fearful from anything behind she kept to a lunge line he walks forward and retreats on command and is very quick to pick up new things he will walk trot and canter on verbal commands. Like you said he is very smart.

[/ QUOTE ]

A fearless horse is not a good thing unfortunately. Experienced riders want horses that have a brain and self preservation. It can become very dangerous when they have no fear at all.

Sedalin is crap stuff IMO, my mare had a whole tube to try and be clipped, and it didn't affect her at all

Get the vet out

maybe too smart for his own good! we had a horse at the RS took 5 people and lunge lines and pens of fencing to catch him but once we had him he could be ridden by complete beginners worked to voice commmands. The problem was he realised once he wasn't confined in a school/stable he could go. No one ever managed to hack him despite a 4 year old being able to ride him in the school!

Like I said earlier hes being a bugger and the trouble with running him round is hes jumping from one field to another .He looks at you and pops over another or 5 ft fence .Im just looking for some advice to pass on I think Ill have to sign off b*****y exhausting keeping up with all of this.Trouble is hes clever hes not mine thank goodness. It was lovely walking to the gate and having my boy greet me after spending 3 hours with that numpty.

undue stress??? hes taking the piss...

run the bugger round, like monty roberts would do, round and round and round his paddock, then when he's tired, run the bugger again...and again..and agin...until YOU want to stop...he'll be SOOO glad to come in after a 5/6 hour session of running....

the little toad wouldn't of beenout in MY paddock for more than 6 hours..let alone half the time the bugger's been out in your's...

i cannot for the life of me see how it has come to this....

I'd have said exactly the same thing but she's said it jumps out!

sedlin is brilliant if you need it for a non stress situation such as catching/fitted headcollars on unbrokens/catching wilds..

it is, i agree, crap for clipping/shoeing/loading

I do think a vet needs to be called for sedation sedalin will do nothing now the adrenaline will be over powering it! my sisters horse who is a fine 15hh has to be given a double full sized hors dose just to be x-rayed at vets! you need a vet out as soon as it is light enough

he sounds like a piece of work. All the talent in the world is wasted if the horse won't work with you. Once they cotton on to the fact that our control is all smoke and mirrors IMO you are pretty much b..gg...d

Have you tried getting someone new into the field with it- who it doesnt associate with all this?

No matter how much it costed- id find a vet who would come out and dart it

Persist with food, other horses..anything you can think of...using time for each way, i personally wouldnt be leanving the field at all if i could help it...

JM07 earlier she said it slipped the line and caverson while it was being adjusted. incidentally how do you spell caverson?

[/ QUOTE ]

cavesson

Maybe you could buy the very tall electric fence posts, and gradually, sneakily fence it in, then make the enclosure smaller and smaller...slowly....
Make sure the fence is live...to a 12v car battery or equivalent, so he gets zapped if he goes near it.
Gradually reduce the size, give water and hay....and try to touch him....til you can catch him....you should find that as you reduce the size to a pen...he starts to run out of grass and becomes more amenable to your attention.
Good luck

She had been in manage from 30 min session on lunge line went to tighten/loosen his cavesson he threw his head back and buggered off.I cant be 100% sure to busy trying to catch him to question .She normally puts head collar round his neck before changing anything he might have been in manage at the time and jumped out once loose. Will ask tommorrow.

hindsight is a wonderful thing but who ACTUALLY lunges in a cavesson these days?

total waste of time..

never owned one myself...

OR ask a local building company if you can borrow some of those really high mesh panels and corner him gradually?

What I don't understand is how the owner could leave, sleep at night and then not even come back in the early hours of the morning! for all she knew he could have run into the road been knocked down and the poor sod that knocked him down would feel guilty when in fact it was complete incompetence!

or killed. Let's not forget this is an animal which is so 'fearless' (is he scared? isnt he?) that it jumps whatever's in it's way.

a horse galloping down the road at night is highly likely going to cause a serious accident.

I have lunged pickle in a cavesson once! I lost him

he just pulled me over!, I was determined not to let go but the force of him just took me down! but he had a lunge line dragging behind him and was confined to an indoor school

Well then I would definitely look at a place with an indoor school in a professional yard with plenty of back up and experience. Get the horse caught initially then have a rethink. Bold and fearless can be great in the right hands but can also be very dangerous. For your average rider you really want bold but not fearless!
