I thought I would post updates to this thread rather than start new ones.....

Maddie and I have had a busy week. On Monday morning our saddler returned our newly widened saddle, and I had a short session in the Autumn sunshine, before we packed up the lorry and headed home.

Food and a handsome neighbour - what more could she want?

She had a body worker appointment Monday afternoon - nothing much picked up which is great, and she was nicely chilled afterwards, and then on Tuesday she had the dentist - again all routine and she was a pretty good girl for that.

First time out in the field (fieldsafe headcollar).....

I lunged her Wednesday as it's always good to have an 'off the back' session after her body worker appointment.....

Yesterday, we boxed up and went for a lesson, just back at Fairoak, but I was on my own, and we were the only horse box parked in the lorry park. I wouldn’t say Maddie was badly behaved, she just decided to focus on many things other than me. Tacking up was akin to wrestling an octopus.

Loading up to come home was similarly challenging - nothing to do with the loading, it’s just hard to get four feet on the ramp when your head is facing in the opposite direction!!

To give Maddie her due, she hasn’t done a lot of parties, so it will be a work in progress over the next couple of months. It was exactly the same when I started taking Cassie out and about, and she became an absolute doddle in that respect.

The lesson itself was great. We worked on a few shapes and then canter-trot-canter transitions which we will practise for our homework. There was definitely a very wintery nip in the air as we left.

And today we rode at home for the first time. WTC both reins, some shapes and some gear work in the trot. She was a good girl.

I honestly couldn't be prouder of her given how much change she has been through in the past few weeks. She has remained kind, gentle and mannerly - long may it continue. Our plans for the next month are just to keep ticking her over - probably a couple of lessons/one lesson & one arena hire per week, and start working on some test movements. Really looking forward to seeing what we can do in 2021. :) x
