Im in love :D

He is indeed a handsome boy:) But, please Jadey, don't give anybody the excuse to ring your local dog warden. He is the 'type' of dog that could create a bit of interest amongst the authorities - and we all know how keen they are in removing a certain 'type' on looks alone.

Thats what i first thought when he walked through the front door
But last owners only ever heard him bark once, hes never snarled or bitten or shown any aggression. he just wants to be with you and play and cuddle :) he isnt neutored yet, but i think my brother is going to get him done soon

That does not look like a mix of Boxer & American bulldog. He looks like the "Boxer crosses" that appeared around here in the early 90's.

As above he is "of the type" and probably a lovely dog.

Don't take what the previous owners say about him as gospel - there is a reason they got shot of him at seven months and their reason to you may not be the absolute truth. He could be an absolute star, but there is no doubt that if he so much as looks at another dog you will have officials knocking at your door and that will be the end of him and a hell of a lot of heartbreak for you.

Well i wasnt there, but my brother said the father of the family was moving out to spain so the rest of the family would be spending ALOT of their time out there so Beamer would be in kennels. Apparently the mother was crying and found it difficult to watch him leave :(
That could be the truth, but you can never trust people these days :(

Jadey, what I'm trying to infer is that he looks a Pitbull type. I am not a Geneticist nor a Seer. But I can guarantee he will be public enemy numero uno. I will be frank, your brother has made a mistake acquiring this dog - that's not a slight on the dog - he has the potential to be great dog - as most dogs have - regardless of his breeding, but the laws as they stand in this country discriminate against dogs of this type and will be used against owners on the slightest whim. Naivitity is not a crime, owning a dog of this type is. The breeders of this type are to blame and puchasers of this type are to blame. I can see no happy outcome for this dog and that be should the ultimate crime.

Yes i know, i can see what he looks like :( the first thing i asked was what breed he was. Ive had all these things going through my head, he really is the sweetest dog, but i can just see unhappiness for my brother and the dog in the future. I hope im wrong.

Well it's done. I would be wary of taking him for walks during daylight hours, I would keep him on the lead at all times, I would avoid any contact with the general public whilst with him and offer a prayer up every night:( I would not say a word to anyone about my new acquisition either).

...and not meaning to drag up the past, but haven't you had some involvement with this type of dog before? Didn't that all end in tears too?

Is your Mum OK with this, bearing in mind she didn't want Buster in the house? Hope this dog fares better. Please bear in mind that he will be a lot harder to handle when he hits 12-18 months and your brother might want to seek out a training class.
All the best with him.

Yeah shes ok with it. Buster was VERY energetic and just bounced everywhere. This dog is calm and sweet. Hopefully he wont change much, he really is a sweetheart :)

With the best will in the world, you can't make that judgement on the strength of one day, he's still a pup, of course he will change in some way and he's probably had a busy day so he is probably tired, change takes it out of them.
I hope he still stays biddable but it is likely that he will have his mad moments and he will probably turn into an ASBO teenager when he hits that 12-18 month mark, like many dogs do.
Your brother needs to put in the work now and your mum will need to be patient if he does get bouncy, hope you are all aware of this :)

I think he's beautiful :) I think if I'm honest everyones over reacting a little...yes he does look vaguely the type but so do many other dogs about. I live in saffron walden and there are two men here who have "true" pitbulls and they don't hide the fact. The dogs are walked off lead and are very very friendly. The owners got them to proove a point...I know not great at all but he frequently walks them through Market on a busy Saturday.

Basically I know you need to be aware but don't not walk him in the day, just show how responsible they are; training classes etc and I'm sure hell be a perfect boy :D good luck with him he's ever so handsome!!!

Not that I agree with the DDA as it currently stands, that is still illegal, they are a banned breed, must be leashed and muzzled in public and that is not something I would post on a public forum :o if that was here, where I live, they'd be seized and PTS or the owners taken to court with potentially the same outcome.

I could own the most biddable, well-trained Pitbull the world has ever seen - it takes one phone call to land me and the dog in the proverbial shitpit.

Sorry Jadey but these were my thoughts exactly (CC just put it better than I could have!).

I think there will be some people on here that find it hard to accept your / your mums willingness to have a new puppy in the house when she /you refused to take on a dog that your own family were neglecting.
If this pup is never bouncy I will eat my hat. My dog can be the calmest laziest animal around, but introduce anything remotely exciting and she transforms into the bouncing devil dog.

My friend has 3 pitbulls (she's in the USA) and they are great dogs apparently. But whether they're great or not, Emma21, the law has banned them, so there is no overreaction.

I also think he looks super. going to need lots of exercise etc, and I'm assuming will not be left alone during the day.

I'm also sure he's chipped and will be neuted by the end of the month. and importantly that the whole family will be involved in his training.

I have to agree. walking around parading 2 pitbulls is very selfish and irrisponsible, at the end of the day when they are seized, it the dog that lives a life of stress and fear until it's execution not the owners.

I don't think J and L boy screams PB but I do see the points that are being made about being careful. Im a little dissapointed that Buster who was indeed very desperate and being passed from one bad home to what we then so dissapointly found to be another could not have taken the space this new dog has, he only needed a little training and walks to help with some of that bouncy energy and im sure he would have made a nice bidable pet also.
He looks like a nice boy all the same.

he looks gorgeous! A friend of mine had a dog called busta that looks just like him1 Was the sweetest most gentle dog, breed doesnt dictate the dogs nature, the upbringing has a lot to do with it too. I hope he's really happy with you and you with him! :D

Don't get me wrong I know it's illeagle I don't approve or encourage him. I think it is selfish and feel for the dogs if the worse should happen. They are very pretty though bless them but no I know he should abide by the rules etc Im not saying otherwise. But I'm saying that not walking him in daylight or socialising him is goin to be much worse for him. I didn't think to be honest he was the build of a PB especially at only 7months but I know the law is pretty rubbish when it comes to that...

I am also a great believer in deed not breed and of course he looks a lovely handsome lad :) but people can't be too careful as has been seen in some high profile cases recently - it can come down to measurements sometimes, all the court needs to prove is what they are, the 'type', not the owner to prove what they're not :(

I have to agree with the majority, he looks like 'the type'

quote 'But last owners only ever heard him bark once, hes never snarled or bitten or shown any aggression'

you only have their word for this and they are hardly going to say otherwise. Also growling means not a lot as most of the time these types show no emotion or give no warning before they take a grip. One was showing no signs of anything before it went for my dog who was a pup at the time. I think this is the main problem. most dogs give signals but a lot of pb's etc don't. therefore the people/dog hurt has had no chance to get out of the way.
He also has a fair bit of growing to do so hope they take the time to do the training with him.

Feel a bit bad as you were well pleased about the new dog and we all seemed to have rained on your parade. :(

He is a handsome chap.
As the others have said he does look more like the PB in him.
However, you do appear to have common sense.

Take precautions.
#muzzle him in public
#keep him on a long line for exercise and a smaller lead when walking on streets.
#halti or harness for extra control?
#training, training and more training.
#no matter how good he behaves never be tempted to leave him with alone in a room with a stranger/child.
#neuter and chip.

Have fun with him. I really do wish you all the best with him and hope we never hear otherwise.

Top two pictures, you can see the Boxer in him. Fourth picture down, that's a Pit head. Too narrow for an American Bulldog.

Take a look at the dogs available in NY's main shelter, and you'll see the great variety in the appearance of dogs listed as Pit X

http://www.petharbor.com/results.as...terlist='NWYK','NWYK1','NWYK2'&WHERE=type_dog,

Whether they are or not is a different matter, but having seen Pits and Pit mixes in the thousands, I would say that there is at least a small dose in there.

He's a lovely boy, and I hope he blossoms into a well-trained adult.
