Quite by coincidence the OH is currently drafting a letter of complaint to Lynx because is states on the back of their deodorant that it 'Brings you back to life' - well now that really would be something.

And while we are on the subject of correctness - I can't remember the last time I saw someone write or say 'an' rather than 'a' before an unsounded h

I know the correct way is 'manège', but I've never, ever met anyone around here who has referred to it like that!! So to avoid conflict I always say school or arena haha

A manege over here means a riding school. I just call it an arena or in Dutch it's a 'bak'.

A manège' in France is an indoor school, an outdoor school is called a carrière . Ménage is housework ;-)

That's interesting - it never occurred to me that people might split the spelling and pronunciation like that and not say it the way it is spelt (more or less).

Just to add to confusion myself and OH speak French together and call it 'la piste' which is what an outdoor school is known as in Belgium!

Well, I'm exaggerating. I just think its like the Americans taking our word "Mum" and spelling it and pronouncing it "Mom". Is America wrong? Does it matter?

Canadians say Mum but spell it Mom.
