How many of you feed micronised linseed with results? My gelding has been on it for over a fortnight now and iv started to notice a difference he looks much better and has gained a little weight.
 
I've been feeding it for about 3 years now, initially to put condition on a poor doer Connie who is fussy too. All 4 on it now, all have glossy coats and good feet, Connie still slim but a decent weight. My only issue, and it may be coincidence or daughter's and my poor grooming, is all have thick, unruly manes :D
 
I feed it last winter when my little Ardennes dropped badly - great stuff. I went on to recommend it to someone with a v poor doer TB who looked like a rescue case. Took about a month but the weight came back.

My Ardennes always has an unruly mane so I'm not sure I can blame the linseed!
 
I started feeding it last year to the old tb I seem to have taken under my wing (long story) - he's never looked better.
 
I started using it for my TB who looked like a rescue case. It helped her keep her weight on and gave her a beautiful coat. I then started giving it to my other horse as she had really dry, flaky skin and it worked a treat for that also. I only give 50g a day each so a 20kg bag lasts ages.
 
Everything here gets in it in varying amounts according to need. They all do so much better on it. The results speak for themselves.
 
feed it too along with turmeric and pepper old girl is sound and has great feet the younger ones look wonderful shiny and sleek again have hard strong feet all are barefoot and never footy
 
It's a very under-utilised feed IMO. You can feed 100g for every 100kg body weight.

I've been feeding it for years but have moved onto omega rice for my WB which is a combination of linseed and rice bran. He's a terrible doer and looks pretty amazing thanks to this (and the right work ;) )
 
I feed it to my two. Blitz gets one scoop (100ml - approx. 40g) and it keeps his coat looking shiny in all conditions. Tartine is now getting about 3 scoops as a fat element in her PSSM diet. She has always had one scoop, for her coat. So far there hasn't been an explosion of weight gain, and she is nice and energetic without being silly.
 
Both my two have it. 26yo retired mare only has it during the winter, 1 mug a day. 19yo TB in work has 1 mug a day in summer and 2 mugs a day in winter. Great stuff!
 
This is mine on it - he is an itcher and also Cushingoid so cereal free diet is important as are the oils for his skin and coat. He only gets a small cupful twice a day

Where do you buy linseed from....

I can find it on the simple systems website (£39 for 20kg :( ), but that's all. Who else makes it??

farmandpetplace.co.uk £25.48 delivered. I only did a very brief search so its potentially cheaper but I remember paying about £24 for a bag a few years ago so figured that was a good price.

Pegasus Health do 20kg for £25.95 (plus shipping). The shipping is 7.95 to the mainland, but 11.95 to France, so NI may fall somewhere in the middle? 20kg will last ages ;)

Charnwood don't deliver to NI at all, I've emailed Pegasus for a quote..

I know I can def get the simple systems, but a wee bit cheaper would be great :)

I'll check out both those options, and also our main distributor Equestrian Farm Feeds in Lisburn. I can't find it on their website, but fingers crossed they keep it. They def do copra which would be my second choice for this winter..

I researched lots of feeds.blue chip,top spec but favoured towards the linseed my boys been on it for about a fortnight now can't see a dramatic difference but still early days he has gained a little weight which he needed to I feed it for coat condition as he has a dull scurfy coat and his hoofs are a bit brittle
 
I bought a 20kg bag of the Charnwood stuff for about £23 this weekend in my local Decathlon shop. I don't know if they always stock it though!
 
If you can't find micronised, have a look for actual linseed oil - I had been using micronised for a while for my 24 yr old, then someone who's knowledge I totally respect (and successfully managed several oldies including some in their 30s) suggested the oil. She said it is utilised better in oil form. I don't know how true this is, but it certainly did make a further difference to my old lad. And it's easier to pick up, I bought a 5ltr container for about £18 and it lasted just about as long as a bag of the micronised.
