Oh no, im so sorry the owner changed their mind. Feel annoyed on your behalf, after all youve been through. Sometimes things work out for the best even if we cant see it at the time. Serendipity often works in mysterious ways. There is the perfect dog out there waiting for a home like yours xx

Have you tried spaniel aid? Sorry if that's the same one

Edit as air to aid

I have. They don’t have anything suitable that isn’t the other end of the country

And they never got back to me about an application I made for the one that would have worked, and their website says if you don’t hear back then assume you were deemed not suitable

The dog is still available

I really get frustrated with rescues, they don’t seem to want people to have dogs.

I’ve just applied for a lovely sounding dog at North East Springer Spaniel Rescue so we’ll see how that goes.

I’ll end up with a puppy at this rate

Northumberland. Happy to travel about 2 hours. My Mum lives in Leicestershire though so happy to look around the midlands too.

I’m only to any kind of small or medium sized dog really if its the type of dog that can manage long walks. I’d love another Spaniel but its not a necessary requirement

Are you on beaters and pickers up on fb? Would almost certainly be worth putting a shout out on there.
I know of some in Devon but nothing your way.
Or maybe @Moobli may be able to have a look out. She’s closer to you than I am!
Or @Thistle knows people in Co Durham
Good luck.

Or Gundog rescue and rehoming. Non profit site. Also on fb

Join beaters and pickers up on facebook - Im pretty sure there will be someone with a failed working/trial dog that would welcome rehoming to you. Also try Buddys rural animal rescue they get lots of spaniels in and are sensible people.

Did you hear back from the rescue rehoming the 2 pups from Ireland?

How is Tommy settling on his own? If he is managing then you've got a bit more time to find him the perfect companion.

I did but they aren’t coming over until christmas so its a bit far out. Tommy is okay on his own in the day with me about, but he barked for 3.5 hours on Friday night in the kitchen. He was better last night as he had been on a particularly long walk with a friend’s dog who he played with.

I don’t think its as urgent as it first felt though.

There’s loads of dogs but some aren’t suitable for whatever reason, some are too far away, then there’s been a few where the advert wasn’t entirely honest, some I just haven’t liked the look of and then I feel bad for being picky… then there’s people and rescues that don’t get back to you… people who change their mind.

I’d always said next time I would get a puppy as it was a nightmare adopting Tommy, but I was expectinf next time to be years away and I don’t want to do the tiny puppy thing just now

I really don’t think I am a bad dog owner. I managed to produce two very well mannered and easy dogs (although Boots had a penchant for eating vets).

I live in a normal house with a small but big enough and secure garden.

I work full time but 10 minutes from home, WFH half days and full days at times and get a dog walker or the neighbours to take the dogs out if I’m going to be out all day.

And I live by the beach!

This wee cocker is in a rescue in Alston, Cumbria. They are a very sensible rescue so definitely worth speaking to.

I’ve messaged about him and the other cocker just below him on their page.

Alston is about 10 minutes from my partners house
