My horse is about to start moulting. Spring is coming

I can tell because she has changed colour from almost black to grey which is a sure sign she is about to change coat

Its because its been so mild. Our daffodils are starting to come. I think they will all change their mind when this cold snap kicks in. Winters like this often end with late snows etc.
 
i think mine have changed their minds on moulting after the sleet, snow and wind we had today! it was bitter!! they are all now fuzzed up again :o
 
My pony has changed colour this week, could this be why? I thought it was just because hes not plastered in mud but this sounds like a better explanation. :)
 
Oh, thank god. Mine's still a horrible shade of donkey grey but I'll keep an eye out for shiny bay hairs then :D
 
Mine is definitely full on moulting, scratching his face you end up with lovely white horse hair gloves - He's certainly not seen the forecast for the next few days!!
 
Was abroad for 3 weeks... When I left horse was so dark bay he was pretty much pure black (he has no real markings), saw him tues for first time and he has turned 3/4 caramel coloured, with only lower legs black. It's scary, like owning a completely different horse. Never owned a horse that chAnged colour like this before, quite creepy! First winter with him so was not expecting this, ive actually spent today comparing photos of him in December and this week.

He is a hairy monster and I'm asthmatic and dreading him molting! Think I will be paying for someone to do some extensive clipping for me!
 
Sisters mare began moulting on Boxing day 2011! We were only saying today that she has started now, but is two weeks behind. We think it is because there has been so much cloud that the light has been very low. The old cob is moulting too, so spring must be on it's way, even with snow to come :)
 
Mines been at it for a couple of weeks now, it actually looked like it had snowed and had to sweep up after grooming him the other day :D Have stopped short of currycombing him this week with the currect weather forecast, and being his first winter not in spain may be even more of a shock than for most!
 
Well, none of ours are moulting at all! Could do with my youngster moulting as, just started his ridden career but isn't clipped or rugged and is out 24/7. He has decided the field shelter that we so kindly put straw in for him, is his bed and he insists on lying down in there and getting covered in poo!! NOT fun to try and groom and he stinks!! IF he'd moult that would be handy, he could moult the poo out of his coat!! :)
 
Both mine are holding on to their coats tightly. I really really want to clip out my boy for the last time but know that as soon as I do that, it will snow, he will be confined to barracks, reduced exercise and needing more rugs...
 
Hurrah :D Millie's ears are moulting (they are the only bit that's hairy enough to show). Roll on spring. The mornings are still horribly dark though :(

Exactly what happened to me today! Clipped, then about an hour later it started snowing. Tucked up in a new rug and went out in the snow without a problem.
