He's 13 months old and he just looks really odd...he's gone from a shape where I was really looking forward to some inhand showing with him..to looking big headed, thin necked, long lanky legs,a bit ribby (he has just shot up a bit),still has a front leg that needs to black out *funny patchy black/brown colour* and to top it all he has a bog brush mane:eek: just how long is this fugly look going to last lol:rolleyes:

Makes you want to cry doesnt it!
They all go through that lanky gangly ugly stage, just hang in there and wait for him to outgrow it!

There is a saying something along the lines of ''Look at them when they are three days old, and don't look at them again until they are three years old.'' yup my two year old goes through fazes like this :)

Our youngster went through this fugly stage. Has always looked gorgeous to me but not sure he looked that way to others for a time. Truly stunning now though, don't worry OP it's just a phase they go through.

That certainly applies to Tonka, if it wasn't for his very pretty face I'd disown him and I've another year before he'll look anything like ready to sell. ;)

We really need photos!
:D

Have you ever noticed a dearth of yearling photos here?
If I haven't sold a foal by a year, I don't even try until they hit 2.
My colts always look like cut and shuts by 15 months, I put them in a field away from the road and don't take pictures. By 2 years they generally catch up to themselves.
Ugly duckling really does apply to so many yearlings doesn't it?

my 4 year old had a HORRIBLE stage this winter, i was panicking a bit tbh :D (he was lovely as a 3 yr old)
i honestly was worried that was it and i had a fugly! he had been turned away after backing and i genuinely started him going again riding him at dusk and in a big ex sheet to cover him up a bit so people didnt think the circus had come to town and ask for a camel ride ;)
hes a beauty now though

June 2007, and June 2010. Rising 3, and now just 6. I never imagined that he'd turn out like this!

Panic not it happens all the time. The in hand might have to wait til he's three though.

Ever noticed children do this aswell??

Here's my yearling pics. When I posted on the Breeders forum as to whether I should keep him entire, people were very rude about his conformation, which, at the time was awful.

3 WEEKS AFTER.....

It just shows how much and how quickly they can change.
He's going through the same ugly ducking stage this year as well!

Thank you peeps especially for the photo's just goes to show how much even a few weeks can make....still not brave enough to put some of my own up lol although could have taken some tonight and he would have been well disguised he's covered head to toe in mud....taking advantage of the rain we are having....

ps cundlegreen I remember your post but didnt comment not wise enough but what a difference are you sure its the same horse:rolleyes::D

beautiful foals tend to go off at one and 3 and ugly foals tend to be nice at one and 3, 4 year olds tend to even out and the backward tend to catch up at 5 and 6. tho most dont mature til nearly 6 and the force grown corn fed that come out ridden as young 4 s tend to have more joint problems. slow grown is always best for the long term.

Have you got a cut and shut horse CA??:D:D:D

I refuse to believe that beautiful baby boy is ugly - you must have had a bang on the head.........;):D

Yep deffo cut and shut on my hands :o:(:) but he's my cut and shut and will hopefully turn into a nice Porsche sometime soon :D he just looks so odd atm and he seems to have little control of his legs full of little nicks:eek::eek:
