Need a name for my new horse ...HELP !

Oh, thank you!! I am v. good with names!!! Cant wait to see pics, I wouldnt have a clue how to do them either, you need to get a child to help you, pref. under the age of 6! My ex racer came to me in January in awful condition, his body weight is fine now but he will always have trouble with his feet, keeping shoes on is a major problem, each time he pulls one off it is so difficult to put back on again. He has racing plates now and lives in over reach boots. Unsound at the moment due to his sole being so flat and cant put pads on until he has more hoof wall. Never easy when they have been neglected, but SO rewarding when they come right.

Photos .... never a 6yo around when you need one !!! This is my 4th ex racer ( still got 2 , lost my perfect partner 1Dec2006) and having worked in racing yards and work in the Monty Roberts/Kelly Marks/Richard Maxwell stylie I feel I have a good combination of knowledge/experience that suits TB's ( other types of horses are available .... no product placement here !!!) . I also feel very fortunate that I have a great Farrier , Dentist ,Vet , Chiropractor and Accupuncture/Bowen lady who are great at their jobs but also really nice people and, I hope ,friends . They have been very supportive with all my horses and anyone that I deal with . Lucky lucky person I am.

Ok really confused , the photo came up when I previewed but not now ?????!!!

Gosh! Poor girl! Makes you wonder what the hell went on between her career and coming to you!

Bless you, she is seriously lucky to have found you, best of luck with her :)

J&C

You are very kind , thank you . All I can do is my best . I'll update once Farrier etc has been tomorrow.

Well , not too good .... Farrier had a look at Grace's feet . He thinks that her pedal bone has dropped or rotated in off fore . Xrays on Th to see .

Ah poor mare! Pedal bone can move back though through corrective shoeing, don't despair! Someone wants a public flogging for letting poor mare get in such a state - unbelievable.

Those feet are shocking, her body condition looks bad too, although still quite a shine to her coat!

Whoever let her get in that state needs reporting to the welfare authorities!

Hope the news on Thursday isn't too bad and you can give her a better life.

On a lighter note, how about Bacon? I've always fancied a horse called Bacon!

My mare has a fractured pedal bone and has heart bars on which can help yours,,,, get a good farrier!! :D

Glad you called her Grace, we sort of rescued a mare last year and I named her Grace her feet were rubbish too, not as bad as your Grace though I really hope the pedal bone is not too bad, on a good note my friend named her new born filly Gracefull, please keep us updated on her, sending you some healing vibes.

Oh well , Xray's taken . And of course Grace was soooo good . She just stood and accepted what was being done . Farrier was there as well as Vet and Xray lady so quite a crowd ! Farrier is popping around to Vets Fri to view and discuss Xrays and we take it from there. At the end of the day its her quality of life thats the most important ... Fingers crossed

Vet just called . She has looked at the Xrays and Graces off fore is the worse . It looks as tho her pedal bone has collapsed and is very close to the sole of her foot .So she is going to speak to Farrier when he comes to view Xrays on Fri but not looking good . She was talking about box rest for months and it still wont be right .
Anyway , I'll see what Farrier says . But if we need to call it a day , we call it a day . I have to do whats best for her .

Sad Sad day .... Farrier and Vet have both had a look at the Xrays and her Off fore pedalbone has dropped 2cm and rotating . Near fore is less bad but still not good ! There is no way she will ever be fine and the high amount of painkillers she would need to be on , longterm , would do her any good at all ... even Danilon . As the pedalbone has dropped so much the laminae would never regrow enough to support her pedalbone and attach to the wall of the hoof . So we will have the weekend and call it a day on Mon . All this due to pure neglect of her feet , if they had been seen to early enough she would of had a chance , but now its going to kill her. Altho she shouldnt of gone to the sale as she wasnt "fit for purpose" , the Vet said she never of been allowed to travel in her state! Im glad she was there otherwise she might still be stood in a field until her pedalbone dropped out the bottom of her foot ! Poor poor mare . Anyway , she's had love ,care, medication and attention for her last 2weeks . I feel Ive done , doing and will do on Mon. the best for her .

I have only just seen this thread now.
I'm sorry to hear the news :( but I'm glad that she has had some love from you before she goes.
Good bye beautiful girl :( I'm sorry that her old owner did this to her.
Stay strong, of course you have done the best thing for her, you have given her a home. It is the only option x x

so sorry to hear your bad news, but bless you for saving her from another neglectful home and giving her the care and attention she has always deserved but often not received.
:(:(:(

Very very sorry BJ
You stood at the mart saying you would buy to pts
So glad she did not go to man ''who wanted a foal'

Thinking of you this weekend and Monday

Yes , I'd said that if she couldnt have a good quality of life then Id put to sleep . I ve spent 2 weeks and the cost of Vets , Xrays and Farrier (which I was prepared to do and spend and which I dont have a problem with at all ) but if only someone had just spent afew quid on foot care she wouldnt of got to this stage ! So sad , its such a shame as she's such a sweetie.

So sorry to hear this news. Give her a big hug from me and a lovely juicy carrot. Well done for doing the best for her and as Cuffey said, so glad she didn't go to the home who wanted to put her in foal!

Dear me, what a terrible shame for this lovely lady. Well done for trying to help her and so very sorry that things have turned out as they have.
Her previous owners need a serious talking to (understatement...!!) by someone - shame on them. No animal deserves this.

Well done again despite the very sad outcome.

Have just caught up with this thread, so sorry that you will lose her, but thank goodness she has had you to look after her in the last few weeks and her suffering will end. Has brought back sad memories of a lovely ex racer OH and I had, he was sold out of a top yard to people who couldn't cope with him, he was actually chronically lame, spent a few weeks on excellent quality grass with the sun on his back before he went to sleep. Its a crying shame these beautiful horses end up in the state they do. Will be thinking about you on Monday.
