Numb. Tragic accident, RIP Herbie

The same thing could happen to any horse tied normally, not being tacked up, if it pulled back and the "string" or whatever didn't break for any reason.

It's not an accident confined to tacking up. Most of us tie up our horses for grooming, farrier, etc etc. It's a fact of horse owning that they need restraining.

This is still a tragic accident, regardless of any amount of what ifs and whys. I'm sure JJ has played over the events leading up to the tragedy over and over and doesn't need someone else heaping guilt on top of the overwhelming burden any horse owner in her position would already (and un-necessarily) have heaped upon themselves. Everything is so much clearer with the benefit of hindsight.

Poor JJ, poor Rachael and Poor Herbie. Accidents happen. Fact.

How awful, I see not one person had asked why this happened, was he tied up properly I take it the head collar was round his neck while you put the bridle on? BHS Rules state if you put a head collar around a horses neck to put a bridle on you always hold the rope you never tie it to anything! Its so dangerous and one of the first things you learn when dealing with horses. Was he tied to bailer twine?

Sorry for your loss, but better safety would probably have prevented this. Everyone must learn from this ever
happening again. Poor horse.

What an idiot you are!!!!!!!!!! not one person asked why it happened because no-one else is as heartless as to do that and realise that accidents happen, and as for better safety would have prevented this.......how dare you you were not there and you have no right to make judgements regarding this and sometimes accidents just happen regardless of what we do and maybe what you also need to take into account is the fact that a CHILD was present as this terrible ACCIDENT and has been left with traumas and neither Jane or her daughter needs stupid mindless people like you making stupid heartless comments!!!!!!!!

Hi Jane. I am so sorry for you and your daughter, what a terrible tragedy. I did see your FB status, but I just didn't know what to say, I'm hopeless at this stuff. *hugs*

As for the pointless insensitive Kookymoose... all the posts I've read of theirs have been cruel and unkind, and it hasn't gone unnoticed by a lot of people on this forum, even before their post on this thread. Just ignore it. Just another cowardly troll no doubt, with nothing better to do than try to make themselves feel better by trying to make others feel worse.

Don't think you are, you can be a nasty sanctimonious little creature under your own name, kookymoose or whatever her name is, is obviously using an alias, which makes her a coward as well. Regardless you are both despicable - oh and remember, what goes around comes around.

So sorry for your loss huge hugs to you and your daughter, please ignore Kooymoose I have never read such heartless insensitive rubbish.

what a horrible thing to happen.

I nearly had my leg broken while shoeing a horse as it was tied up to a door and the owner came through the horse scared itself and tore the door off (odd how the door borke before the stirng did), i grabbed the door as the horse bolted but it mashed my leg. Luckily not much damage and the horse was ok.

So sorry for your loss , that is horrendous . he was a beautiful horse and looks so talented . that is a freak accident.
Rip herbie and hugs for you and your family .
My chestnut has done that a few times ,and once at a show , he got loose and got his head under the show / car park rope barrier fence , and pulled up metres and metres os fence posts and rope , and galloped off with it until a post wedged under a jeep tyre and I got hold of him, fortunately he was ok, just a burst lips, horses get into all sorts of terrible accidents . U must remember the happy times u had with him, he looked a super horse . xx

i can't believe this kookymoose or whatever there name is, and _charlie_
i know for a fact jane looked after her horses properly and knew what she was doing, i've known her a couple of years now and i rode herbie a couple of times. i can't believe you'd say something like that, shes just lost her horse. lovely person you are aren't you? there was nothing she could do!
i'm so sorry jane, herbie was an amazing horse. i can't imagine how your feeling. its such a shame his life was taken like this, and infront of you all.

RIP herbie.
xxxx

You can be the most experienced horsewoman on the planet and lose a horse to an accident. They are the animals we choose to be around. They are prey animals as we all know, something simple, a horse we have had for many years, it happens. There is not one of us on here who can be holier than thou, lucky yes but those who are judgemental need to think on. I hope I never have to witness losing something so beloved to me in such a manner.

RIP Herbie your family obviously loved you very much.

I have just signed up to HHO to reply to that sick insensitive beast Kooky whatever you call yourself - how dare you, you make me absolutely sick with your comments.

You weren't there to see that everything was done as it should be, Jane is an experienced horsewoman whose life is her horses and would never ever endanger the life of one of her horses. I am so angry with your insensitivity and inappropriate post that I am speechless.

I was with Jane and her daughter when this tragic accident happened - there was absolutely nothing we could do, I am still at a loss for words and wish I could turn back time for them both.

RIP Herbie - Jane love to you both and you know where I am if you need me

Ok, so I have mulled over everything since the early hours.

Just want to say, thank you all for your supportive message her and privately, when you lose something so precious, words of comfort really help.

Thank you to my friends, your support is so much appreciated.
I am sorry you had to witness it also N, in my grief and protection of Rachel, I didn't think to offer you comfort too, it must have been shocking for you to see also. Thank you for being there, you were a brick for us.

This is all that matters.

I will grieve for my Herbie quietly today, he was a wonderful horse, a bit of a gump, a real friend, and we loved him dearly.
Harmony and Magic seem to be ok, and are content with their grazing.

Thanks

JJ x
