Now i am not into showjumping, but i am noticing that a high percentage of the jumpers in the current class are continually going disunited and not showing true bend or canters.....

just a thought

Indoor showjumping can be a bit ore haphazard than the summer shows. When they are riding forward over a tight enough course indoors there is little time for steadying and settling between fences - though its kind of contradictory as more balance is required for indoor GPs.

. . . and, with so many children going to this show, is it not really irresponsible that so many riders are removing their hats as soon as they leave the arena (and some whilst they are still in the arena!)? . It's not as if they are riding in a uncomfortably humid climate where you could kinda understand the discomfort of having something on your hat, or that some of them even have enough hair on their heads to want to avoid 'hat hair'

that's cos each rider has one saddle for all their horses - it's what fits the rider rather than what fits the horse

I did wonder about that. Can't be good for the horse's back surely

But then will it make a difference seeing as they are only being ridden in it for a few minutes during the round?

Don't be so daft - one saddle per rider? I really don't think so.. as if they're going to win International classes in a badly fitted saddle? They spend huge amounts on physios so i dare say they make sure their tack fits..

So at home and in the warm-up they're ridden bare back?

i can't believe that people would not have saddles fitted to their horses at that level. those horses are worth so much money. they have the best of everything surely?

and, in many cases the rider isn't the owner, so, what saddle is the horse ridden in when ridden by someone else?

they MUST have their own saddles (horses not riders)

Of course not. That wasn't what I meant. As opposed to being ridden in it for hours at a time

Its a a parents job to ensure their children wear hats really, if kids are going to do whatever they see then we better stop them watching telly and going out at all really..

Agree. A child is pretty much beyond help if they're that easily influenced.

Ah showjumping threads are the best.

that'd stop all their moaning about the state of british showjumping... the rest of the world would bow down to our brilliance...

I was watching last night and my non horsey OH said it looked like one of the Whittakers was sitting on a pile cushion, his half pad was huge!!
Also, is it my telly or are the jumps narrower than normal, ie left to right?

I was merely pointing out some of the bending and incorrect canter work, i havent mentioned saddles, i belive at those levels only a fool would use one saddle for each horse as the saddle would have a great influence over the horses way of going and if winning or losing a class was the difference between haveing a specially fitted saddle for one horse or all, the i know what would be choosen.

QR:

When I worked for an international show jumper there were 13 horses in work and at home there were 2 saddles which all of the horses wore and there were also 2 seperate saddles for use at shows. Those 2 saddles went of everything on the yard from a 17.3hh higher level horse horse to a 16hh youngster. None of the horses had bad backs of were cranky when you put the saddles on.
