The 5yo comes back into work after trying to put me in a ditch and getting haematoma in her knee. She can hack for a week and then go back into work properly. The grey horse is off to play with a friend with arena hire on Sunday ( I wonder who that could be!!)

Yeah! Rose got 65.9 in her first medium test so got the 3 points she needed for AFs so we came home without doing the second test avoiding a long wait and the rain and wind. Despite being a bit tight she won the silver class. Good girl has qualified in two tests for medium AFs and Elementary Regionals in 3 tests. Very proud of her and my lovely sharer.

Frustrating start to the weekend - hired an arena with dressage boards to enter an E-Rider Test. Toby has improved so, so much that I wanted some solid proof or progress. Our last test was 64.6 so I wanted a better score than that. Alas, wind, rain, limited turn out and all manner of flappy, spooky things around the arena meant it was not to be. I'll enter for the feedback but it was pretty ropy. Oh well. Let's hope XC clinic is a little more successful!

Easy peasy - cavaletti 16yd to cavaletti 16 yds to cavaletti. Down there in 3. Though I also really like decent oxer 3 strides to decent upright 4 strides to decent oxer as you have to be good proactive.

Having lessons tomorrow, myself on my horse and my husband. Our 3yr old section a will be getting a wee lesson tomorrow too with one of the young girls at the yard. I am hoping we can go hacking on sunday weather and child sitter dependant.

Got a flat/poles clinic on Tuesday. First time in a long time riding with people I don't know, on a horse I don't know that well, and first proper clinic in well ever I think.

Fun? Car crash? Who knows. It's with my own coach so hopefully wil survive the experience...

Fab jump lesson this afternoon.
We got absolutely soaked and I sometimes struggled to hear the trainer but it was a really good lesson.
T was a bit of a moron and took a massive dislike to the fence with the dullest filler under it. Really didn’t want to go over it, so we kept calmly and positively repeating until we did get over. Then lots of praise and time to chill out.
Lots and lots of great advice from the trainer, this is only our 2nd lesson with him but we make great improvements each time.

We jumped this tonight! All by ourselves, no instructor and only me putting the fences up! Ok, it’s only about 1m but may as well have been the Cottesmore leap the way it made me feel? honestly, if it’s the only thing I achieve this weekend, that’s a win for me!

There was a fantastic facebook post which has really resonated with me, from inside track Eventing about it’s not ’just’ or ‘only’. Really helped change my mindset to celebrating what I do, and not undermining it.

Yup, in my great jumping lesson I might have scraped 70cm max.

Well, we survived jumping in the hackamore! Baby TB actually really seemed to quite like it, and it forces me to ride more with my body and keep the hands really forwards and soft, so the hackamore may stay.
So made up with how well this 5 year old is turning out to be, I haven’t jumped her since October and she only had a few green mistakes.
Just need to x-ray those tooth roots now...

Also freshly clipped 15yr old didn’t try and bury me today so that’s him off the naughty list just in time for Christmas!

Fab day out for us!
2nd in prelim out of 19. That with an accidental trot in our free walk ??‍ absolutely delighted with the big unit.
Squeezed in 6th in novice, smaller field of 11, very happy though as we had a few wobbly moments.
Christmas themed, went with a Christmas cardigan to help give the impression of a jacket lol.

oh and we tried fancy plaits!

A fab finish to what has been a strange year. We are back into lockdown on Boxing Day so that’s our last trip out for 2020.

Fancy plaits Sheep!

Had first jumping lesson since lockdown . Started doing the clover /cartwheel exercise over poles first in trot then canter then over cavaletti. Mr H was super calm, obedient and manoeuvrable. Then incorporated the jumps in the rest of the arena into the exercise - mr H went WHEEE , went up 2 gears , we were supposed to circle after the jumps and restart the cartwheel to regain discipline but I didn’t manage to get him back to me in time, overshot the circle and he put in a hilarious buck (he thinks he’s hilarious), I emitted a high pitched squeal before managing to restart the cartwheel...

Flatwork lesson this afternoon indoors (lucky as weather is sh1te) and another jumping lesson next week (weather permitting).

Well I'm having a pity party because I fell off in my lesson with share horse. It was over absolutely nothing and things were going so well up to that point, very frustrating. I was feeling so good in the warm up, great transitions and ready to take on a new challenge so to fall off for no good reason has shaken me up quite a bit. We were only cantering the first loop of a serpentine, share horse wasn't going to turn then did (probably me not riding decisively enough) which put me off balance. Understandably he wasn't a fan of me hanging off the side so he wooshed even more and I hit the ground quite hard. He then had quite the party round the arena, and broke away when instructor held him at mounting block for me. I really did not want to get back on but I did. Then did some rather pathetic trotting because apparently I couldn't deal with the sensation of turning a corner any more. My confidence was doing really well and I just feel a bit like my fears of pushing out of my comfort zone were proved right today

Also share horse was a pain the stable and pulled away when I though I'd caught him, so then main thing that hurts is my middle finger. Fairly sure not broken but really sore and making me feel even more sorry for myself. Pass the gin please!

I think so, my brain still can't work out how I managed to lose balance so dramatically in the first place. Planning a walk/trot hack for Tuesday so I'm hoping that will help me feel a bit better. Might need to build up slowly to the cantering again, annoying because we did some fab stuff warming up and it felt great.

Fun day at Somerford for me and Toby. Hairy moment when a rider in our group fell and her horse came careering straight towards Tobes bucking and kicking out. He was a STAR. Just stood there solid as a rock as she more or less cannoned off him. What an impressive 5 year old he is!

He jumped well too, though I kept it all low and easy as wanted a confidence building session. For us both!

Sadly we were plunged into Tier 4 ? so had to make do with a hack up the lane (still being careful of slightly sore feet) and doing the Christmas tree pole exercise in the school - it was a stretch but my 13 hand nothing actually managed to bounce through in canter!
